    What would be amazing is if you did an episode on movie making. Not so much about the camera or film, but the actual process of making something that would be enjoyable for someone else to watch. When I was a kid my mother would yell at me for shooting movies of sticks on the ground. She said my masterpieces were just a waste of film.

    Hey Michael, wondering if we could ever get a video on cleaning and maintenance of old 8m cameras? I just bought two Bolex cameras, and would love to give them a 'tune up' before testing them. Cheers.

      This might help you out as well. cinetinker.blogspot.com/2013/01/servicing-bolex-d8l.html I used this guide to service my Bolex B8 when I bought it and now it runs wonderfully. Use a high quality clock oil on these and don't let it run where it is not supposed to. They really live up to their reputation of running like a Swiss watch when running properly. However, if you're not experienced with this sort of thing I would definitely second the recommendation of bolexrepair.com. They sold me a part I needed to get mine up and running and were very friendly and helpful.

    Hey Mike!!! The Mansfield MeterMatic 8mm looks almost exactly the same -- three-lens turret, same body -- same "electric eye" next to the viewfinder, but no meter on the top. Seems to have a needle meter in the viewfinder. *BUT* -- not sure if it the meter controls the exposure or is just for reference, like your Holiday II model. Can't find definitive info on the Interwebs in a basic search -- do you happen to know? Manual exposure control would be perfect -- as it would be very similar to your Holiday II model. Would love to know! BTW -- can't wait for the pandemic to be over and back to nice weather in 2021 so you can shoot more home movies of cookouts and parades!

    I had a little question : can we put a super 8 film in that camera or not ? And a double 8 film is a special film our you just can take a standard 16 mm one? Thank you for your video.

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  3 года назад

      Double 8 (also known as Regular 8) is its own format. Double 8 cameras (like the Holiday II) can not take Super 8 or 16mm film.

    I bought a Mansfield Holiday II at an estate sale. It seems to be in excellent condition, but after I wound it up it did not seem to run for more than about 1 minute total. It stops and starts. The action is not smooth and continuous either. Could this be repaired or should I just sell it as is for parts. I ran it without film. Will it be better to test it with old film in it? How many times should it be cranked to test? Great video very informative.

      Hi Becky. When you wind it and hold down the run button, will it run continuously for 30 secs (or so)? - Mike Raso

      The spring wound motor only lasts for 30 seconds or so - sound like its running correctly. If you have vintage film, test load and shoot.

    You just reminded me that I have a Mansfield Holiday II also…… got it out, and it has an exposed roll in it. I assume that you don’t just do the processing of older film…. Do you suggest “the Darkroom” for that…. Thx

      The old film certainly Kodachrome - use it to test load your camera - no developing available. Video on the subject: ruclips.net/video/_Ru0lzIJ-fE/видео.html - You can buy new, fresh film at The FPP - filmphotographystore.com/collections/movie-film/double-8

    anyone know how to fix a non-working light meter in one of these?

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  23 дня назад

      Light meters in these vintage wind -ups are frequently dead due to being stored in daylight (years of exposure). No repair unless you can do it yourself. Consider using a light meter app.

    Is an uptake spool different than an empty film spool? Is it a special part? I have an empty spool in this camera, but idk if it'll work as "uptake"

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  Месяц назад

      Will work as the take-up spool. Consider marking it as the take-up. Remember, when your done shooting, the film will also be on your new film spool (as described in the video).
