The worst thing about Commander Gaius' charge attack is not just that it has a busted up hitbox that requires very strict timing to dodge (and can hit you multiple times if you fail), he can also bust it out at will even when he stands right in front of you with barely any rev-up. I wasn't stuck too long on that guy, but eff him all the same!
This will be yet another boss where I have literally 0 qualms about summoning my mimic. The other being the Foreskin Duo. Such trash bosses in an otherwise perfect game. At least they give me the ability to disregard the trash tier fights they block my progress with, unlike literally every other game in existence.

@cyrus6461 My mimic was +7 ash lvl and I had like 15 scadu fragments. That didn't matter lmao. There's zero punish window and the dodge timings are tight even for DLC bosses. It's a poor boss design. Every other boss I haven't had a problem. I can admit what's my fault no problem when a boss gets me but gaius you spend more of the fight trying to figure out his unforgiving hitboxes while he can pull out a charge in 1 second and can throw a 10pc at you with indefinitely. Gaius and elden beast are the only objectively bad bosses in the game. Everyone else is great
His hitboxes are so fucking trash. At the opening charge attack I pull out Comet Azur and he fucking runs straight through it despite the models basically colliding. And I like the hard bosses too, Gayus is just unfair. Relanna kills me 35 times but I'm still having fun because every time I lose, it's my own fault.
The fact that they had to move Gaius from in front of the fog gate to back where is first encounter is shows they know on a spiritual level that dude was legit BS. I fought him pre patch and he was pure cancer with the inability for me to dodge reliably and those garbage hit boxes. I fought him post patch and it made it easier to counter his BS. He’s still a BS boss imo.

Because it's three separate hitbox, the tusk, front legs, and back legs. Dodging forward-right at 45-ish degrees is the best way to dodge the charge attack

Worst FS boss ever, PERIOD! I was running a 2h GUTS full STR build, no summons, no AoW, nothing, took down Malenia, Malekith, Rellana after being stuck, but this guy???? I had to hide behind a great shield and spam counterattacks like a little b*tch, coz you can't dodge his bs charge!!!! He's constantly aggressive and does 5-8 hits combo, sometimes he will just charge out of nowhere, after a single attack when you thought you had an opening. Just a trash, bad designed boss...
If you are able to use scarlet rot on him that last up to about phase 2 and the blasphemous blade if pretty strong against him if you hit it at the right time

The best summon for this boss is greatshield soldiers, they throw black flame pots and melee with their shield to distract him. An alternative is golem smith, hes really tanky.

I stunlock every boss, insane damage and crazy survivability. 2 equip load talismans, stamina recovery talisman and jumping attack talisman
I suggest taking some time to form a good opinion. This is not the best boss. It can be your favourite sure, but this boss is absolutely horrible. There is no need to insult bosses like Messmer, Midra, Godfrey, Margit etc.
The sunflower was easy once I got it's pattern down. My problem with Gaius is he doesn't have a fuckin pattern. He just flails around, flies in the air, teleports his lance to my head from across the arena, I'm at 50 vigor, 12 scad blessing, wearing full bull-goat, and blocking, and still getting 1-2 shot killed. It's frankly ridiculous
The Scadutree Avatar has completely fair attacks that you can all perfectly dodge and evade if you don't get greedy. Commander Gaius has busted hitboxes that screw with your reflexes.
Okay so get this I had a hard time beating Bayle The Dread but I'm guessing a lot of you didn't but when it came to commander gaius it only took 2 tries lmao, Some bosses that I find hard as hell may come easy to you but your bosses that you deem hard may come easy to me in vise versa

@@slidelikeMbison the pattern is the same with some extra steps. People either just didn't play Sekiro or have bad memories. Also, they need to learn to forward roll instead of relying on side/back dodges. The boss is fine, people just suck.

Dude, i struggled with him, then read somewhere to try light load/roll and won second try!
He does charge attack only after two different attacks. If you learn his moveset you can easily beat him with medium rolls no damage

I beat him today finally, as my Mimic sacrificed himself to give me the victory. He’s weak to Holy damage ironically.

Dunno why, pretty consistant to dodge it just before the tusks reach you. Compared the the laggy sunflower ground attack which is a 50/50 every time.

Light roll makes dodging through his charge very consistent, and deflecting hardtear helps with his combos.
