The Art Toolkit demi-palette with 12 mini pans will fit in the plastic ziploc insert in the Traveler’s Notebook. That’s my purse kit with a mini mechanical pencil and a compact water brush.
I made myself a pocket gouache palette out of a business card holder with eyeshadow tin cans. Very portable. It goes with me everywhere in case I want to draw on my lunch hour
Ooh- eyeshadow pans- what a great idea! I made some gouache pans as well, but used larger pans so I don’t take them with me anywhere. Did you squeeze the paint straight into the pans? I mixed mine with a little glycerin and honey water to increase binder strength but they all ended up cracking. They still work though. Next time I’m going to try it straight.
@@PocketDreamsCo yep. My first gouache of half-professional gouache set never cracked, so I hasn't done mixing before. Now I use the professional set of gouache, and some colors are cracking, so I need to use the mix. P.S. I also use a metallic case out of a Starbucks bubble gum, in which I could put the same eyeshadow tin cans or, as I did, I used the pills blisters for the paints, you could also use the gum blisters for the paints
FYI-I my waterbrush and mini spray bottle for my watercolors as well as my fountain pens have all gone through TSA without putting them with my liquids. I've also never had cabin pressure mess up the waterbrushes (my fountain pens do fly nib up ... of course a good option is to fly with either a vac fill fountain pen or a Japanese eyedropper such as the ones sold by Opus 88 ... as they have shut off valves and will not leak ...one reason I ended up getting a Pilot Custom 823 as my main writing pen. I also find Kaweco Sports with cartridges excellent travel pens and never had a leak with those!)
I wondered about that-if you had to separate the water pens. And I have a Kaweco Sport pen…I’ll have to be more daring and travel with pens next time- I quit doing so after I had a pen explode a few years ago. I haven’t tried the Pilot Custom 823 …I need to look that one up…but my fav pen is my Pilot Falcon with a flex nib. Thanks for the tips!
Waterbrush will not exploded or leak when not filled with water (fill it when you get there) and you can even bring it in your handbag with you. In an airplain you could even fill it with the water you get to drink.
They also have a watercolor insert too! The paper is a bit different than the sketch but admittedly I haven’t brought myself to use either of them yet 😂
Interesting video. I only wish you didn't have the annoying music covering your voice. It is very distracting and makes it difficult to listen to what you are saying.
Hi! I just found your channel and love your aesthetics and content. I just wanted to let you know that your voice is echoing during the top-down views. I think you’re double recording your audio. You probably want to remove audio from one of your cameras (probably the vertical one). Looking forward for more!
Hi! I’m so glad you are enjoying them. And thank you for the tip- yes, I’m double recording and have struggled to line up the voice recordings…and with your tip, I decided to drop the second audio clip and boost the volume of the single one. Thanks so much!!
Same!! Thanks for the video. I don’t know if it’s my device but the music audio was a little bit competing with your speaking. I wish to hear your comments better. Thanks so much!
I like that kit and overall approach. BTW, for what it's worth, I have a fountain pen suggestion. You might try something like the Opus 88, especially the Fantasia (if you can find one). It's eye dropper fill (so good capacity) and best of all has a shut off valve. I use mine in the terminal while waiting to board,, hold it nib up to empty the forward section, close the valve and I'm good to go. Upon reaching cruising altitude, I open the valve and get it back in use -- no problems (reverse for landing). Enjoy your trip!
Thank you for that suggestion- I’ll have to check it out. I’ve even had a ball point pen explode- so I pretty much exclude pens, but a shut-off valve would be great. 🖋️
Nice tour and kit! We're visiting Japan next month and I just procured myself a passport size traveler's notebook with watercolor paper inserts. Maybe 80% of everything I own also come from Japan, we sleep in futons shipped from japan, all my art supplies from Japan, I'm a fan of all Holbein paints, all of our kitchen items and furniture are from MUJI, and I almost exclusively wear just Uniqlo.
You are a true fan. That’s awesome to import what you love- I also love to bring back as much as will fit in my suitcase form other countries to keep the good memories of my time there- and this trip was no exception. In fact, we had to buy a carry-on to bring all my stuff back! We just got back this morning and I can say I absolutely ❤️Japan as well! We were in Tokyo the entire 2 weeks (except for a day trip to My. Fuji) so I haven’t seen other parts, but there’s so much to love. I’m going to make a few videos about my experience there. Where will you be staying when you go?
Hope you had an absolute blast! There is definitely so much to love! We'll be in Tokyo as well but also visiting Naoshima Island (art island). We're very much looking forward to going to all the art galleries we can in Tokyo. Hoping to be very inspired so I've been researching on minimalist art travel kits. So nice to stumble upon your channel!@@PocketDreamsCo
Thank you- that’s so sweet and I wish you all the best with your channel. It’s wonderful that you are using your talent to honor the Lord! May people see and believe in Him❤️
You have a nice minimal setup for travel, love that passport TN! I understand about not using a fountain pen on the plane in case of the pen burping and making a mess. However when I took a trip to Europe this past summer, I brought a Twsbi Eco fountain pen, almost completely filled and kept it nib up in my purse. Once we got to our hotel, I tested it on scrap paper and there was no burping at all. I'm a big TN fan, too.
Thanks for the tip. I’m definitely going to have to bring one along next time, as I’ve heard several people have success with their pens not leaking…maybe there should be a list of the best travel fountain pens 🖋️💛. I’m adding your pen to my list.
I used a small gift tin from Walmart and squeezed my tube watercolor paints (mostly Daniel Smith) into empty half-pans, then let them dry overnight. I keep a rubber band around the tin for travel and use the lid as a palette. Hope this helps! I am kind of addicted to making palettes of my favorite color combinations!
Hi! I bought the 2 travel journal inserts - they are Traveler’s Factory journal inserts and come in thicker paper for watercolor and the cream colored one is Midori paper. But, you could easily make your own with your favorite paper- just sew it together at the spine.
I traveled with fountain pens and water brush in a 10 hr flight and they did not leak. I did not open them during the flight so that I cannot comment on.
I know! I’ve made so many music mistakes when I began my channel, but since I moved my Final Cut files I can no longer edit them as the software can no longer “find” the files. That’s what I get for trying to tidy up my computer.

@@katsmith8263do you have pics of your palettes to share by chance and links of what you used? :) i’d love to try the business card holder!
