@@MrsBarnabas A big suitcase and a carry on roller case each. Everything ended up being so heavy and we were both cranky by the end of the flights, lol. Better now that we have settled in to our accommodation, have showered and eaten a decent meal. I am ready to crash, haha!
Great collection to take. I think the only thing I would add would be like a sweat wristband (or the ones they make for when you wash your face so water doesn’t run down your arms) for cleaning off the water brushes or to use in place of the blue paper towels.
Genuine question, Lisa: How do you cope with a soggy wristband? Don't you get a 'soggy skin' (like having your hands in water for too long) thing happening? How do you manage not to brush it against your painting? What do you use for blotting, if you're wearing a wristband instead? As i said, all genuine questions, because I haven't been able to get my head around the practicalities. even though I've seen it mentioned loads of times elsewhere, no-one's ever shown themselves using it 'in situ'. .. 😊
@@MrsBarnabas I have two I keep with my to go supplies, so I always have one dry. I tend to keep it around my hand that’s holding my sketchbook so I can easily get to my wristband. I haven’t gotten a really soggy one yet since it’s just small, simple pieces so far. I guess my best response is try while doing a piece with less water. And air dry or toss in the wash/dryer regularly. And figuring out how much water and use it takes to get too wet helps with knowing when to stop using the wristband or switch to another method. I usually only use wristbands if I’m not at home painting so it’s just small pieces in sketchbooks. I haven’t thought about having to blot a piece… I guess having a paper towel or something similar would be needed. Good questions.
@@lisagoetsch Thanks, Lisa! I'm a plein air artist who tends to use large paper and a lot of washes, using my watercolour brushes, and rarely use a brush pen, so it'd get soggy pretty quickly, I think. It may be worth having one in my grab-and-go bag, though, because it's usually then that I'll have forgotten to replace the paper towel (also scrap paper!) and I hate using paper hankies - they just don't work the same. I had to use a tennis sweatband last year to keep a skin cancer scar safe from the sun, and it irritated me - _a lot!!!_ - but it was on my right arm, so that's mostly why it was a problem. But when did it become a thing to use them to stop water going up the arm when hand-washing? I've only heard of this recently! I must admit that the hand driers at our big local médiathèque are set at shoulder height! Whoever thought of that must have been a giant, because in the winter, to have water running up into long sleeves is no joke! But it must be the same person who decided to put in only one washbasin for two very busy loos! I don't think I'd remember to put these in my bag, though, as I constantly forget to replace the paper napkins I use instead. 🙄 It's crazy that I forget though - I've been doing plein air for 26 years and this forgetting stuff is very recent. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it.😊 Afterthought: Have you tried this idea going around of having the paint box fastened on the wrist?
Have a wonderful trip. I do like the Art toolkit stuff, I added a couple of small bungee tie down cords with balls ( Extremus Switchbak on The big A) to the loops on the spine. This makes an elastic strap with the little balls that make this bag 100% easier to carry. You can either slip your hand in and grip the spine, or hold it by the little balls between your fingers. My new favorite mechanical pencil is the Uni Kuru Toga Advance. It completely retracts to a blunt point (no unexpected stabs or bending the lead sleeve), and it automatically rotates to prevent sharp edges. the lead sleeve retracts into the pencil as the lead gets shorter. Freaking brilliant, and not expensive.
Best way to carry a variety of artist and Washington tapes is to wrap lengths around an old hotel key card! It’ll hold quite a bit without the rolls! Nice and flat for your case!
That's such a great idea and I'm totally trying this next time!! I'll have to dig out an old plastic card from my hoard of them....I knew I kept them for a reason, lol.
It was Irene from the channel INCWorks who recommended them, and I found a jumbo pack of rolls in Costco (which worked out much cheaper than a single roll off Amazon). They are Scott Brand blue Shop Towels, made for mechanics but are amazing in the studio and they last much longer than paper towels. I might mention them in a future video.
I hope you have a wonderful time. I also hope you get lots of free time for painting. Safe travels. As for me, i don't know what i would bring for that length of time, but it would probably be more than i need 😂.

Have a fantastic trip! I loved seeing this video. I have a lot of the ArtToolkit palettes- probably too many - in all sizes 😂. I can’t wait to see all your beautiful paintings. Have a great time!
That looks like you’ll have everything you need… with a few backups, how perfect is that? I’ve been getting ready for a short 6-day trip. I contemplated using my A5 Art Toolkit case, but it’s slightly too big for the tiny carry-on I’m using. I am also taking my pocket and demi palettes. I need to find one of those tiny plastic mixing palettes like you have, that would be perfect to take with the art toolkit palettes, they do not have enough mixing space for me. Can’t wait to see what you create during your vacation!
You are going to have sooo much fun on your vacation! I am looking forward to seeing your paintings and pictures when you get back. I have never had a 1-month vacation (I'm lucky to get 1-week off), but I'm sure the time will pass by so quickly, right before your eyes...enjoy yourselves! 🥰
@@BeckyTregear I've never been on a flight for any longer than about 1.5 hours. I think I would have to indulge in a lot of adult beverages to calm me down and keep me from going stir crazy on that long of a flight, lol! You must have nerves of steel Becky.

Thanks for posting that! I love to see what others have in their travel kits. I have labored over putting a few together this past year. I have an Art Tool Kit as well, only the smaller size case along with the same palette (your larger one). Since they were having a sale, I also purchased the largest paint palette, which I didn't realize came without pans. But I did find tiny makeup pans that fit from Amazon because I really didn't want to pay the shipping to get the pans from Art Tool Kit. I've split half of the paint palette area with more mixing space (empty pans which I've painted white). Since my travels are generally only a matter of days rather than weeks, I've never ran out of paint. But I do wish I had purchased the larger case instead. I can only store the smallest sketchbook inside and the bare minimum of drawing tools and waterbrushes (1 of each). So far, the only sketchbook I've found to fit is the Tumuarta 3.5 x5 inch, but it has 300gsm cotton paper (and no sharp edges). It has really held up well and allows me to paint on both sides of the paper. The water and rinse cups have to live in my bag. But I do have one waterbrush and some of those blue shop towels in the kit. Those shop towels can be rewashed and dried several times. They are great! My little set of Neo II's have to live in my backpack as well, along with some watercolor pencils. But what I really love about my little case is that is also can double as an easel. I have some magnet clips which I can place on the strip of fabric next to the zipper to hold my palette. Since I have 1 waterbrush, I don't worry about bringing a rinse cup. I actually have a 3 different travel kits (one that is even smaller than this one). My larger one has a tripod and easel with more supplies, but it weighs about 12 lbs (including my camera equipment), so I can't bring it everywhere with me. The smallest one is just drawing, a few pens, Derwent drawing pencils), and a mechanical pencil, and a sketchbook). Whew....Sorry for the long post. Travel art kits just spark joy in me!
I am sorely tempted by the folio sized palette! I figured since I tend to use A5 books the most, that the larger case would be better. The smaller one looks so cute though! Love blue shop towels; I discovered those from another 'Tuber, and they're fantastic! I love art kits - mine constantly change depending on where I'm going or my mood, haha! Your kits sound great! ❤
It was a good time! I have a follow up video with a full sketchbook tour and travel stuff around Greece if you wanted to see how I went with filling the book. And thank you for watching. 🙂
Bon voyage! You are much more economical with your art packing than I am - and I bet you are 300x more productive with the supplies you take than me too, since I usually only manage one or two half hearted watercolours when I go somewhere. I really need to slim it all down and maybe then I'd have the problem of not having enough but actually doing something instead of vice versa! 😂
I have the wooden mini watercolour box from Sennelier but have not used it that much since I need extra water. The one I took up to Bendigo art gallery was the Posca pastels set and a sketch book.
I hope you have the bestest of times on your Greek Holibobs!!! Excellently packed for a travel kit, I think you have everything covered there for sure! But maybe add a couple of loose scrap papers for testing out your mixes before using, they would easily fit in, but most of all Enjoy!! :D
I also chucked in another small book for random scribbles and sketches, so I can use that. Too late now anyway, we are at the gate awaiting to board soon. 😂
I hope you have a great time in Europe as well! We are all good, and the weather has been all over the place but i've managed to do quite a lot of sketching so I'm happy. 😊
Have fun with security. No sharps, carry as a seperate piece of luggage, that way when it shows on the scan they are not going through your luggage to find it. A metal clutch pencil looks like a gun barrel from some angles.
thanks for the video, gave me some ideas to pack a few things for my next trip. I would also bring an empty small spray bottle and a toothbrush to splash and maybe some salt for making cool patterns.
I like that case. Its really nice :) Enjoy the trip (I said that in your last video lol). You will have a fantastic time. I haven't been overseas in 5 years, and I miss it. I haven't even been to Europe, and I am technically a European citizen (Irish).
We were in Europe in 2017 (UK for my cousin's wedding plus Greece for a bit) so that was the last time I did a long haul flight. I'm well out of shape! 😂
Thanks for posting - I'm always interested in seeing what works for others. I'm VErY interested in knowing how what you packed actually worked out for you. What would you do differently next time? I always find I continue to tweak my supplies. thanks, I traveled to France a few years ago. A week in Paris and a week in Loir Valley for oil painting instruction. I had a carry-on and a backpack - no checked bags. I left clothes at the B&B (intentionally planned for) It was tight. The only thing I wish I had was a warmer jacket. It was cooler than expected. Everything else worked find and I didn't have to deal with baggage in the Charles De Gaulle airport (nightmare).
We almost went to Greece via France, but decided that it would be too many airports, haha! I don't think I'd bother with the collapsible water pot, as I pretty much used the water brushes exclusively. They're just so much easier and more convenient to travel with. I used both paint palettes the whole time, my mechanical pencil and black ink pen. That's about it, lol!
I have that same Art Toolkit and will be using it for the first time for my trip to France at the end of the month. Very interested to see what you put in yours and get ideas. I attached a strap to it as well.
What size is this one? I brought the pocket one on our vacation but find it a little limiting. it also gets packed so tight its bulky. I do have the bigger size but then you have to use a bigger purse lol. first world problems with art supplies. You fit an amazing amount of stuff in here and the Stilman and bern sketchbooks are perfect for these travel kits.
The art toolkit case seems really nice and compact once you close it up! And you really managed to pack so much in there ! The Greece paintings I am quite excited to see eventually😍 it always feels like those uniball pens run out quickly so I understand the new one + backups😂I’m also going to keep this in mind for somewhat of a guide when I travel next month, and I’m flying as well so I’m nervous about packing ahh! Ok, I don’t want to leave comments that are too long since you’re traveling, you know I just get excited over anything that has to do with supplies😅
It has been working really well! Sometimes I just grab the book out with the pencil, brush, pen and mini palette for use in my smaller handbag. Where are you going to next month?
my wife and I are going to greece for the first time this summer also! going to take some watercolor art supplies as well. Where in Greece are you going? Were thinking, Athens, Crete, Corfu
This was last year for me, so I've already been haha! We spent time visiting my husband's family, but also went to Athens, Kefalonia, Lefkada, Parga, Corfu and Meteora. I loved Corfu; that was my first time going there. Paleokastritsa beach is absolutely gorgeous! I hope you have an amazing time in Greece!
Hi Becky! I hope you are having a wonderful time in Greece! I have this very same art tool kit case. Mine is black. I also have the problem of it getting lint on the outside surface. I will probably need to buy a lint brush to keep it clean because it bothers me. I love that it will fit my sketchbook. I also hate that everything falls out of that one side. I would like it designed up and down instead of sideways. I also wish it had a handle on the outside for carrying. I love love the paint palettes and how tiny and versatile they are. I actually have two of the larger ones that I can put the bigger wells inside. You have a lot of the same supplies as I do. I don’t like to use water brushes much because of the water control. It depends on what I’m painting. I hope you have a wonderful time and anticipate lots of fun videos and paintings of Greece! It’s the only way I will ever be able to see it. Thank you so much!! Have fun!
I'm forever cleaning that case! Cat hair also sticks, as well as lint! 😂 Otherwise I do like it, and I'm glad you have the same sorts of art supplies too. ❤️
I.know logic doesn’t come into it when going through airport security, but I always worry about the water in waterbrushes also, although the same amount of water is in many pens and they never confiscate those.
The standard size ones are a bit too chunky to fit into the small pockets where I put the Art Toolkit palette, but they will fit in the large pocket underneath, where I have the box of crayons. At one point I even had one in there on top of the crayon box while I was travelling around, lol. Edit: Now I look more closely, that big pocket will also fit a 24 tin, and possibly even a 48, though that would get pretty tight for having anything else there too.
@BeckyTregear thank you for the very fast response. I've been looking at these and they seem great but I love my pallet and am not keen on buying the ultra slim ones they sell. Thank yo
@@user-kj5sl2gx7k Hopefully it'll work out for you if you get one. They're pretty versatile...it lasted the whole way around Greece too and is still going strong. No damage or tears in the fabric.

What a wonderful exciting trip to go on. I love your tiny paint palettes.
Be safe and have fun! I am leaving for a European trip soon and your videos have been very helpful. Thank you!
I hope you have a great time in Europe as well! We are all good, and the weather has been all over the place but i've managed to do quite a lot of sketching so I'm happy. 😊
Bon voyage! Enjoy, have some great food, relax and maybe visit a Greek art shop; perhaps you'll discover a new local watercolor producer ;)
I'll be on the lookout for some European brands which aren't available in Australia. 😊
Have fun with security. No sharps, carry as a seperate piece of luggage, that way when it shows on the scan they are not going through your luggage to find it. A metal clutch pencil looks like a gun barrel from some angles.
I've got everything set up so I can pull out my art kit easily - hopefully no issues!
Great selections! These should set you up for fun times. Enjoy! Be well. Safe travels. ❤ BTW Your audio and video quality are excellent
Thank you! 😊
I just get instantly soothed by your sweet voice
Aw thank you! I hope you enjoy some of my other videos too. 🙂
Love this and love seeing what people carry in their kits! Thank you for sharing! 💖💖 Have an awesome trip, and can't wait to see what you make!
thanks for the video, gave me some ideas to pack a few things for my next trip. I would also bring an empty small spray bottle and a toothbrush to splash and maybe some salt for making cool patterns.
Those would be useful items too! 😊
Enjoy your trip
We did!
I have that same Art Toolkit and will be using it for the first time for my trip to France at the end of the month. Very interested to see what you put in yours and get ideas. I attached a strap to it as well.
It has been working really well so far and I'm very happy I brought it along with me! 😊
It's the bigger A5 size because I knew I'd need a larger case to fit all of my stuff. My handbag is quite big too, lol. 😂
@@BeckyTregear so hard to be so limited! It’s also less packed and thick!
@@BeckyTregear I’m glad it’s been functional😊 I’ll be going to hawaii!
my wife and I are going to greece for the first time this summer also! going to take some watercolor art supplies as well.
Hey! Cool video! May I ask where you got those tiny mixing palettes? Very cute 🤩Hope you had a good trip 😉
The little white flower one? I think that came from Daiso. And yes, we had a lovely trip, thank you! I'm glad we went in May and not July....😱
💜💜💜tfs💜💜💜
Travel well. Great video, however, this one is costing me money as I list new art supplies I “need”, thanks for that 😂
Thank you! Many of these items were purchased because of other people's videos, so I'm passing it on. 😂
I.know logic doesn’t come into it when going through airport security, but I always worry about the water in waterbrushes also, although the same amount of water is in many pens and they never confiscate those.
@@arlyhelm6219 Haha that's so true, and yet I always empty my water brushes before going through security. 😂
Me, too!
While you are at it why not add a box of 108 colours Holbein paint? They are 5ml and so tiny... Individually. Lol
Haha! Well maybe I'll see that box over there, though I don't think Holbein will be any cheaper in Europe.
Can a standard metal travel pallet fit in this?
@@BeckyTregear that's great I'm excited
Can you tell me if there are plein aire workshops. My wife and I are visiting kefalonia and she is a painter ( I'm a sailor)?
Workshops in Greece? I am not sure - I did all of my sketching just on my own. But it's worth looking up online if there are any local ones. Urban Sketchers is a global community, and they'd probably be a good place to start looking. I hope you both enjoy Kefalonia! 🙂
Where did you get the metal roller from again? I couldn’t quite catch the name. Did you say KKK?
LOL I hope not that! Kikki.k! It's a swedish design stationery store.
@@BeckyTregear Roller? I meant ruler 😂
Links please!
I totally forgot to do that, didn't I! 😬
First!
