    Most sealcoating contractors have very little experience with gilsonite, but it is a better product than coal tar and asphalt emulsion. Most sealcoating contractors have very little knowledge of all of the asphalt maintenance options. Every bulk sealer salesman I have ever talked to always talks down gilsonite. When I ask if they have ever seen core samples of asphalt sealed with gilsonite they always say no. Gilsonite will actually penetrate the asphalt (providing it hasn't already been sealed with coal tar or asphalt emulsion) and help rejuvenate it. Yes some contractors will dilute gilsonite with gas. But guess what, I've seen dozens and dozens of projects sealed with watered down black water coal tar. Bottom line, sealcoating is bottom of the food chain in regards to asphalt maintenance. And this contractor did a professional job.

    I can actually seal without Taping as well. Spraying has been done on residential driveways at least in Ontario Canada for well over 30 years. Majority of sealer used is oil based due to harsh winters we have some companies also offer water based sealer and squeeqy applied etc. There is a better product available you might be thinking of that is harder to apply to residential uses higher pressure sand mix (polytar) much more expensive and no one residential is paying for it at this time.

    I've been sealcoating for years.
    I would like to warn people that thr sealer plants have multiple types of sealcoat and some of which will give your skin terrible chemical burns. Wear protective equipment, we used to spray coal tar and would wear a spray suit, a spray sock for our face and clear safety glasses.

    • @JeffLepard

    Is concrete sealing common amongst residential and commercial clients in your area?
    Concrete’s expensive to put down but will last much longer with a good water resistant sealing on top that keeps it from cracking or eroding any earlier than it should.

    Nice clean but u have to clean with soap any oil stains ,because it repels oil ,so that means it won't adhear to any oil stains and it looks spotty on the finish

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  5 лет назад +2

      That is true. Oil will penetrate everything. Since we are using an oil based product we never use water or soap on the driveway otherwise we can't seal it. Most of my customers will wash their driveway before I show up to seal it so it's nice and dry for us. If the driveway is too badly damaged we will offer to repair the area otherwise there wouldn't be any warranty on top of oil.

    Whats an experienced professionals opinion on using a pressure washer to clean the driveway?
    Maybe instead of brush and leaf blower. Or in conjunction with leaf blower to dry the water a bit faster

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  5 лет назад +2

      Pressure washing is always the best option however if you are sealing right after you will have to wait till is dries to seal it. I have many home owners that pressure wash or even use a hose and wash down their driveway prior to me showing up.

    Is it really when spraying sealcoating can accidentally be sprayed of unwanted surfaces, doors or cars etc? Because there are some people say you can easily damage property if there is some wind.

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  4 года назад

      Yes that is true Wind is your enemy for sure. You have to be aware of how windy it is and how strong the wind is. If there is no wind then you should be fine with experience.

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  6 лет назад +3

      Depends on where abouts you live it varies in pricing and depending on the type of sealer used. Residential you can charge either by sq' or a standard size. For example in Toronto a standard size driveway (2 cars) avg is about $150 with no repairs. Crack repairs you can charge anywhere from $1-2 per foot on avg.

      @JeffLepard  5 лет назад +2

      Driveways you normally get about 2 years protection value most clients seal every 2 years some do every year. Squeegeeing your getting a thicker product no doubt about that. Most of the applications done here even on commercial properties are sprayed. Some sealers are using a poly tar mix which is mixed with sand. That application you can't spray on a driveway the pressure is too high and the spray width is huge. You gotta love our accents Eh! LOL

    Nothing is wrong with oil based sealers they are actually better for up north in Canada , Alaska where cold is longer and harsher, they are less good further you go south. In the south i found Asphalt bitumen based sealers are better and in the middle 70 % coal tar does it best.
    Sealer can be sprayed to be actually as good if not better than brush applied but you wont find 1 in a 1k companies able or willing to do it.

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  5 лет назад +1

      I'm always interested in knowing the different sealers people are using out there! I agree different sealers will perform differently in different weather and environments. Some sealers up here are using a PolyTar which is agitated with sand. It apparently lasts longer however when you line paint on top of it you can only use water based paints and the paint will only last about 6 months. I've never used it though.

      I will have to look into that for you. I know each city or state where you are uses different sealers. There is a huge facebook group for sealing and has all kinds of information there. I will see if I can find out that for you.

    Can't believe you don't pressure wash the driveway to get all the debris and dirt off. You just sprayed all over the crap that was on the driveway. Must be a Canadian thing!

    You cannot apply that oil sealer over water base crack filler, but you can get away with it on a lil spot like that.

      Ah ok! I believe Princess Auto sells them if not I normally buy mine when I fill up sealer in Mississauga from Ashphalt Sealing Supply Ltd. The guys name is Gill his number is: 647-309-5590. He has different sizes of those tips you can use. For parking lots I normally use a bigger tip like a .4

      Yes it sure does its just like the ones that are sold in most of our stores here. There is a newer product than this one I will be using starting next year. Most of my crack repairs jobs though I do require Hot Rubberizer.

      Your redicules ! You seen somebody on youtube pressure clean a driveway before sealing it and now you just think thats the standard. Enless a driveway is heavily compromised with oil you dont need to pressure clean it.

    • @anthonymcgill3618

      And on top of that hes using oil based sealer you moron. Any oil is om the driveway is not gomna effect oil based product

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks for watching! If I wasn't doing my job correctly I probably would be out of business but I'm still in business for over 16 years. If a driveway is in need of pressure washing that would have to be done long before we arrive since we are using an oil based sealer the asphalt cannot be wet. The home owner can choose to prep that before we come or if they want us to do that for them it would be done prior to a sealing day at an extra charge. For a standard 2 car driveway if a sealing company had to pressure wash and seal every driveway they would be out of business in no time. For the time it takes to pressure wash 1 driveway with set up and packing up I can have 4-5 driveways sealed by that time. Most driveways I come across may only have minor oil stains. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
