I think its important to explain thoroughly the step by step process of these types of jobs! And you do that very well!
Great Video!!
Professional job, looks great too! I like that you took the time to try to keep straight the lines, it's a couple minute thing that makes a huge difference aesthetically
+Trill AKR thanks for watching the video! Also, with patching we always try as much as possible to square off patches instead of oddly shaped repairs.
What an awesome job Jeff. How cool are your videos. We are always learning something new. Greetings from Brazil.
Igor Brito thanks so much! I will be filming a bunch of new videos starting next week!
I like the work that you are doing keep it up but I also wish that you would make more speed bump asphalt ones
Love it
Muy buen trabajo de tapar oyos en el pavimento de las calles saludos desde México ciudad 🇲🇽👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🔨⛏️🚧🚜
Thanks so much! I will be posting some new videos very soon!
Nice job. Why does you keep calling it "ash"phalt? Is that a regional thing?
J Carroll Thanks! It's a very bad habit that a lot of us do and I've made it a point for the upcoming season this year to make sure I'm pronouncing it correctly lol. One of our plants is called "Ashphalt". Lol
Ashphalt is common way people pronounce asphalt in the north east
Safety goggles!!!!!!
You don't use emulsion on the edges to bind new asphalt to old asphalt? Will be separating in about 12 months
If you need safety glasses you can use that as well but for this job I won't be using them because it's just a very quick cut? How long does it take to lose an eye?
That patch was too low. After you compacted you left a depression. Did you check the sub base once you excavated? Most pothole problems have sub base issues as well. Not going to do much good to patch them if the underlying issue isn't corrected.
The client wanted it as level as possible. At the time of that video it was just before winter. I agree sub base is all the problems with many patch jobs that fail. This patch held up until they replaced that section of roadway. Thanks for the input appreciated! Thanks for watching.
Nice!!! How much you charge?
making the repair twice the size it needed to be
Thanks for watching!
Great info and video. How long is the hot asphalt useable? Is it still useable once it cools off?
Thanks.
Great question! In a hotbox I can reheat the asphalt even a year after. Under normal conditions or asphalt that's on a dump truck or trailer after it cools off its useless. You can't rake it and you can't compact it anymore.
No tack oil? And loads of dust. Could have been a longer laster repair
The repair was only a quick fix before they paved the roadway. I am filming some newer videos and I will be showing the use of Tack coat SS1 glue in them.
@@farmcentralohio Hey man, why are so rude to Jeff?
@@bw1749 so rude? the guy is doing a hack job and putting it on utube lol
@@farmcentralohio Thanks for watching! This was the 4th video on my channel years ago and my mistake was I should of mentioned that this repair was a temporary fix before paving started on the road. The main concern was trip hazards and and vehicles going over the pot holes. I just filmed a new video on my new channel which will be up in a few weeks on Pot Hole Repairs.
The hole was demolished way to shallow no tack lute skills are ok but needs some work he could have done it all with the lute spread leveled edged and finished
I just wiped out cycling into a deep pothole and immediately called it into 311 City of Toronto hotline to report it! I landed hard on my right shoulder, scraped my back, blood running down my forearm from my elbow! I make so mad at the city for allowing these potholes for getting so bad that I want to go out and repair them myself! As much as I want I don’t have access to the equipment! Having said that I can buy a can of neon spray paint and go back to the pothole to make a marking so other cyclists don’t get injured! I am finally a claim!!!
офигеть! Прям как у нас - асфальт не держится за подложку, сразу слоем снимается.
I will be doing a new video on pot hole repair on my new RUclips channel coming up in a few weeks! I will make the announcement on this channel shortly.
I have seen videos on pot hole repair and they have cleand te hole and surronding asphalt
Yes it is a good idea to clean the area and area around. This was a temporary patch I should of mentioned in the video but it was an older video. I will be posting a new video on my new channel in a few weeks on Pot Hole Repairs.
I just added this to my business with a small asphalt reclaimer I made out of a concrete mixer. Any advice on a small hotbox I could use?
Oh nice does that work well? Starting out for a hot box get at least a 1.5 ton.
Now do you ever use that propane tar machine to tar your edges? Or is that not Necessary. I’ve done pothole repair a few summers back and here in pa the roads are so bad I’m thinking about starting my own company doing this just would like some on site before I buy things I don’t need.
No tack?!?
This was a quick fix patch job that was done for the client. The patch held up fine this past winter.
I live in a town were u get 40/50 holes in a hundred foot area we dont do this we use hot pack and make big shims fill the deep spots and spread hot pack 6 inches around ever hole and roll it no need to cut and do all this sticks the same way if it's a natural hole or cut hole ur just using more town money and product
0:37 when he said ashfalt xD
I had a bad habit of saying that in my older videos! lol
no tack coat?
Is it possible to just lay the asphalt down without cutting it and removing it? I see city guys on the roads just throwing it down and leaving.
Yes it is possible but they are only temporary repairs. The city guys in Toronto do that same thing throw is down and wack it in.
my city does pothole fixes by cleaning them out than tar(tacking it) than load them with blacktop and steam roll it
What about sealing the edges with oil?
We do use Tack Coat to help the bonding but this was a temporary patch so it wasn't needed. Thanks so much for watching!
Would cold patch work, if you can't get hot asphalt? I don't have the hot box or vehicle to drive it to the worksite, and am looking to improve my pothole repairs. I use tack coat on my repairs, and am looking into getting a good demolition saw.
By the way, nice informative video. You made that look easy!
Thanks,
Michael Warren
Open Source Roads
You could use cold patch repair but most repairs for commercial or town house complexes like this one only want to use hot asphalt. Tack coat is excellent to use on patches and if you were using cold patch that would help even more. Thanks for the comment! Check out my other videos if you already haven't I use a variety of different equipment depending on the type of repair i'm doing.
We use cold patch all the time (I work for a county road department) but it will be temporary. There are good cold patches and bad ones. Most good ones come from asphalt distributors, not hardware stores. The ones you get at hardware stores are ok for driveway's and walkways, but not roads. Cold patch is almost always very temporary.
@@mikel9567 That is true! The city here doesn't use cold patch I don't think. Most of the time they just run trucks with hot boxes and do very quick patches on the road not mean to last at all. This city is in a constant state of paving! Winters destroy our roads!
If u mix ur cold pack with tack it's basically hot pack but not really u gota tamp it very well but cold pack is basically a band aid hot pack last much longer just wait for hot pack
U don't even have to out a cone after u pack it it's good to go the water cures it fast
Jeff, what is the cost for something like this?
+Travis Montgomery normally for pot hole repair there is a minimum service charge and then dependong on how many repairs and the size of the repairs. For this particular client that day we repaired 5 or 6 of these and i believe it was around $900.
And does not wear the most critical PPE, goggles.
The new videos we will be releasing have safety goggles. My older videos I didn't use in the video.
1:48 dont teach peapole that they shouldnt wear eye protection when its just a small cut you always want to wear eye protection just by simply toutching the cutting wheel to the asphalt it can fling up a small rock into ur eye and may blind you altso as you are dry cutting the asphalt it even more inportant to wear eye protection since the dust can get into ur eyes...
You are correct! You should always wear eye and other protection. In my newer videos that I am doing I make sure to always use the safety equipment for protection. I will be starting a new channel for my construction work in a few weeks! Stay tuned for the announcement!
How do you know how deep to cut the concrete?
Sometimes you can't tell you cut deep as you can based on your blade.
Wahnsinn wie dünn hier die Tragschicht ist... Das kann ja nicht lang heben!
So how much do you charge to repair a pothole of that size?
If it was 1 pot hole and we are using hot asphalt there would be a minimum service charge about $600-800. If there are multiple repair area's then this pot hole would be approx $100-$200.
What's the difference between Ashphalt and Asphalt?
Asphalt is the correct way to pronounce it! These were my older videos and I had a bad habit saying Ashphalt. lol
Ash Fault?
How much does it cost?
For this particular client that day we repaired 5 or 6 of these and i believe it was around $900.
You forgot to put the traffic cones down
We did use pylons but I didn't show it on the video. Good eye! Thanks for watching!
Entweder hast du viel zu viel Material verwendet oder deine Verdichtung ist zu gering. Die repariert Stelle müsste eben sein!
What do you charge for that one patch?
not going work..nothing for adhesion between layers
I didn't use ss1 in this video but in my newer videos you can see me using it. This patch actually held up fine after the repair. Check out my new channel: ruclips.net/user/doitallsealing&via=tb
Why not use a planer
It's not ashphalt! It's ass phalt. Oops sorry. Just read some of the other comments😂😂😂😂😂
I know! This old video is haunting me now! LOL It's ok, I have a new video going up on my new channel in a few weeks on Pot Hole Repairs.
Bei der dünnen Tragschicht wundert es einen nicht, daß das aufbricht!
Lots of jobs I have seen the asphalt too thin!
I ask permission to react to this video, thank you
He didnt tack the edges
This was just a temporary repair done before paving took place. The repair lasted all winter and was already paved. Thanks for watching!
Fills the patch area with debris. WTF?
I noticed that, an air line is essential.
@@Poepad This was an older video on my channel that I should of mentioned this repair was a temporary repair before paving started. The patch held up fine before it was paved. I just did a new video on Pot Hole Repairs on my new channel and it should be out in a few weeks! Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
ASHphalt
+Josh Allen All my new videos i finally pronounce it properly. Lol
chancer
I got some new videos coming soon!
Cutting asphalt with no eye protection? If you lose an eye dont say you were not warned
My older videos I didn't show much of the safety protection while I was filming. All my new videos and the videos that will be going on my new RUclips Channel soon to start will all have safety protection equipment while I work. I have to lead by example! Thanks for noticing that and watching the videos! I will make much better videos this construction season.
Take a shot everytime you hear ash falt
I would get drunk if I did that! LOL My newer videos I pronounce it the correct way! Thanks so much for watching!
You forgot to put your traffic cones down
We actually did put down pylons but I didn't show that on camera. My newer videos that I will be doing on my new channel which is set to start very soon well have much better quality videos to watch. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
ash falt
Bad habit in my older videos!
Its hma or coldmix

Buy your self an infrared heater.
john slingshot I'm actually going to be getting one. They are awesome!
We got one from Heat design equipment in Canada in 2006, 12 years old and it never let us down. Never needed one part for it. Now the priced have tripled for them.
john slingshot yeah I believe it. Even line painters have gone up in price by the thousands! How big is your infrared heater?
We got two of them, the P300 and the P150 We use the P150 90% of the time. The P300 is too big For small potholes. They said the infrared blanket would last between 1500 to 200 hrs.The P150 must have over 3000 hrs on it and still works perfect. You cannot pressure wash them or get the under blanket wet. It will destroy them. The old school infrared is the tubes, They only heat under each tube and the surrounding area on the side of the tubes does get warm but no where near what a blanket does.
john slingshot I'm going to look at those units and see what they are about. It's great hearing from someone that has experience using them. This will help in making my purchase decision! Thanks so much!
Wahnsinn wie dünn die Schwarzdecke ist... Das kann ja garnicht lange heben!
That patch actually lasted a long time before they paved the entire roadway there. Check out my new channel: ruclips.net/channel/UCE4x9dzt-NuHwlEDuAdC2kQ
Who pays you for jobs like this the city ?
This is actually a private condo corporation. I have been working for many property management companies for years. Once you get in there they keep using you. Check out my Do It All Sealing Channel as well: ruclips.net/channel/UCE4x9dzt-NuHwlEDuAdC2kQ
Terrible job. No disrespect to the tech just unlearned. First off you didn’t apply any binder/tack witch is required to prevent water from entering the joint where the cut was made. And lastly it’s so hilarious how the compactor was going up and down because he didn’t thoroughly take asphalt to a Level finish.
А говорят в америки дороги хорошии!!😂😂
In Canada we get bad roads because of the winters we get. Thanks for watching!
@@JeffLepard И вам нехворатьь!😁
Ashphalt sounds Irish

How many times can u say asphalt 🤦🏼♂️
My older videos I was saying it incorrectly! Check out all of my new videos on my new channel: ruclips.net/user/doitallsealing
Obviously you don't know how to do it properly. You forgot to repair what caused the hole.
Are you serious!? You should be embarrassed by that work!
Why? I don’t see a problem
Thanks for watching! This was the 4th video on my channel years ago and my mistake was I should of mentioned that this repair was a temporary fix before paving started on the road. The main concern was trip hazards and and vehicles going over the pot holes. I just filmed a new video on my new channel which will be up in a few weeks on Pot Hole Repairs.
ash-phalt?? I can’t watch anymore. Your saying it wrong way too much. And this is not a “ Northeast” word.
My newer videos will be much better on my new channel! Check it out when it comes out. Thanks!
Use a sprayer - hole no need to expose others to silica
Too much talking. Not enough action
Not too worry! I will be posting new videos coming soon on the new channel!
