    That patch was too low. After you compacted you left a depression. Did you check the sub base once you excavated? Most pothole problems have sub base issues as well. Not going to do much good to patch them if the underlying issue isn't corrected.

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  5 лет назад +7

      The client wanted it as level as possible. At the time of that video it was just before winter. I agree sub base is all the problems with many patch jobs that fail. This patch held up until they replaced that section of roadway. Thanks for the input appreciated! Thanks for watching.

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  5 лет назад +1

      Great question! In a hotbox I can reheat the asphalt even a year after. Under normal conditions or asphalt that's on a dump truck or trailer after it cools off its useless. You can't rake it and you can't compact it anymore.

    I just wiped out cycling into a deep pothole and immediately called it into 311 City of Toronto hotline to report it! I landed hard on my right shoulder, scraped my back, blood running down my forearm from my elbow! I make so mad at the city for allowing these potholes for getting so bad that I want to go out and repair them myself! As much as I want I don’t have access to the equipment! Having said that I can buy a can of neon spray paint and go back to the pothole to make a marking so other cyclists don’t get injured! I am finally a claim!!!

    • @JeffLepard

      You could use cold patch repair but most repairs for commercial or town house complexes like this one only want to use hot asphalt. Tack coat is excellent to use on patches and if you were using cold patch that would help even more. Thanks for the comment! Check out my other videos if you already haven't I use a variety of different equipment depending on the type of repair i'm doing.

    • @mikel9567
      @mikel9567 5 лет назад +1

      We use cold patch all the time (I work for a county road department) but it will be temporary. There are good cold patches and bad ones. Most good ones come from asphalt distributors, not hardware stores. The ones you get at hardware stores are ok for driveway's and walkways, but not roads. Cold patch is almost always very temporary.

    • @JeffLepard
      @JeffLepard  5 лет назад +1

      @@mikel9567 That is true! The city here doesn't use cold patch I don't think. Most of the time they just run trucks with hot boxes and do very quick patches on the road not mean to last at all. This city is in a constant state of paving! Winters destroy our roads!

    1:48 dont teach peapole that they shouldnt wear eye protection when its just a small cut you always want to wear eye protection just by simply toutching the cutting wheel to the asphalt it can fling up a small rock into ur eye and may blind you altso as you are dry cutting the asphalt it even more inportant to wear eye protection since the dust can get into ur eyes...

They said the infrared blanket would last between 1500 to 200 hrs.The P150 must have over 3000 hrs on it and still works perfect. You cannot pressure wash them or get the under blanket wet. It will destroy them. The old school infrared is the tubes, They only heat under each tube and the surrounding area on the side of the tubes does get warm but no where near what a blanket does.

      Thanks for watching! This was the 4th video on my channel years ago and my mistake was I should of mentioned that this repair was a temporary fix before paving started on the road. The main concern was trip hazards and and vehicles going over the pot holes. I just filmed a new video on my new channel which will be up in a few weeks on Pot Hole Repairs.
