Nobody has truly lived yet until you've been at a Bad Seed gig and Nick Cave points at you while he's singing.
Talking to him is better
Absolutely agree! I've had that pleasure four times already. And I already have a ticket to the Carnage concert in NYC in March. I know it's not gonna be the same with the pandemic regulations and all and I'll be sitting pretty far anyway but I'm still excited.
Your probably to young to remember his other bands - the boys next door & The Birthday Party check em out late 70s & 80s
Miss Roland S Howard & Tracy Pew RIP from Nick Caves early bands
Really? He ok. I seen better. If that's what you consider living, you are a baby 😂
this music is like ancient storytelling. theres a mystery and a weirdness to it that is hypnotic and refreshing
Most people don't know, but this song is about a real guy named Stag/Stack Lee from St. Louis who shot Billy Lyons over a Stetson hat. It's a 124 year old story (in 2019) but not quite ancient history. Wikipedia has a decent article about it. There's something like 7-8 completely different songs by different artists about this event (names vary Stag'o Lee, Stack Lee, Stagger Lee, etc..) The Grateful Dead's version is my favorite, and how I found this interesting take.
Terscheckii 35711 - thanks for that history. I love The Dead’s versions as well. Taj Mahal did a super-rootsy recording, that I heard for the 1st time not too long ago...but, I feel that Mr. Cave’s version & performance of this event Wins the Spirit Award, for Sure! I’d bet that I’ve watched this ACL show between 12 & 20 times and it Never Gets Old. I’ll check out the Wiki, so thanks again for the Enlightenment & Keep On Truckin’, Pal ✌️
@@Terscheckii-zm6lt Yeah, it's not even that extraordinary of a story in reality, but somehow it became an enduring part of folk song tradition. Lloyd Price had a hit with it in 1958. The Clash referenced it on London Calling. Bob Dylan covered a version in 1993. I don't know why this incident captured the imagination more than any other drunken murder.
Lee Shelton is an American legend. Good post by the way, do yourself a favor and listen to Southside Johnny's cover of this song, you'll be glad you did.
There's no one like him. He's pure energy. Check out how both men and women respond to him, and how he invites it all. Best live show going right now.
Known him since 'The Boys Next Door'.
6:49 - just when you think that it's gone completely rogue and lost all control. Just like that, and you realise that this is a band completely in tune with each other. Wonderful.
That's what all artists should aspire to be. Great story...great lyrics...great music...great singing....and every ounce of heart and soul in every bit of it. Wow.
And no hype or nudity or desperation to be popular! Just pure talent!
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the best band in the world!!!
Gotta love the extra verse he puts in live, about the devil coming in to get Stagger, and Stag just fills him full of lead. LOL. It's like the Stagger Lee legend is still growing....now he kills the Devil too :D
F*cking Amazing, I have been in his presence, and the crowd eats out of his hand every single time! Nick has some power, man. Great artist, great F*cking band!
FUCKING is the word😉
Best ACL taping I've ever been to. At about 5:31 he reaches out and touches my head like he's a healer. Intense.
When I saw it, I said "look at this lucky mofo", lol.. That's awesome.
J. Dennis Thomas Did you feel it...
His stage presence is amazing. The bravado that he shows when singing the lyrics. Tell me another person that has not won 50 grammys and sold 5 billion records that holds the crowd like that
J. Dennis Thomas was that cause you said the line making him go ‘yeah yeah yeah?’
This is a seance
The Devil didn't go down to Georgia, He's right there at 6:16 playing fiddle !
Wow! Strangely enough, "616" might actually be the real number of the beast according to some scholars.
A beautiful poet and story teller ....but always a legendary performer! Those who attended were blessed that night
Nick Cave never ceases to amaze with his performances!
Warren Ellis is just a monster on that violin.
nevar23 - I think he turns it into a Fiddle, too! he’s brilliant with Mr. Cave & seems to bring a lot of “What the Song & Performance” Need(s) to it all...especially on stage.
Thats the dude from dirty3 right?
@@visionaerie Yep, it is.
@@nevar23 I actually got to see dirty 3 this night club in Washington DC called the black cat must have been maybe the mid-90s
@@visionaerie Lucky you! That's awesome. I almost went to a D3 show but ended up having to work.
NICK CAVE!!
Not sure if this crowd knew who Nick Cave was before they got there but they sure knew by the time he'd finished.
If anyone doesn't know, this is an adaption of an old american folk song song. This is beyond the best but worth checking Lloy price's version, great song on it's own
god i wish i could go back. his brisbane show was easily the greatest night of my entire life ;~;
If you haven't read his book And The Ass Saw The Angel...you're missing out
Had the pleasure of seeing Nick a number of times One of the best live acts around Watch the Documentary 20,000 Days on Earth if you can catch it
The only thing missing from the doc was more live performance footage!!
Ty’s 4 info fan
they're about the coolest band in the world , always have been
recorded 8 years ago this evening... was there and it was something special.
Can't imagine why PBS won't be airing this!
I can the f word!! Give me a break!!
@@cathsalazar9930 you do know I was being facetious right? I love Nick Cave but also am a PBS fan. Many of his songs would work just fine on PBS, but not this one lol!
@@mikewatts867 got it! But they never aired this gig or several others in my area! Missed several like Duran Duran & Nick Cave, they don’t air the same concerts in every area PBS is available!! Not a fan of PBS for that reason! But have seen a few things in the past I liked! Know this song won’t stand a chance on PBS but loved hearing it the way Nick did it! Fabulous! Ty’s bro at 72 & an 80’s fan of these type of bands & others those type of words don’t bother me in the least! Heard it & Say it when pissed! Take care ☮️👍🇺🇸
Now more than ever, I realize...Nick Cave IS Stagger Lee! At least, he can be Stagger Lee when he wants to be.
He’s the embodiment of evil Elvis ,the ultimate campfire storyteller 😮 Love his writing and storytelling.
Always an awesome live performer and a consummate rock and roll stage persona. Nothing slows this man down.
much better than the studio version
I don't know what I love more, watching this video or reading these comments. :)
Well, good thing he had a recording of Blixa Bargeld's frantic screeching handy ;)
It would be so tippy to have Nick Cave look you in the eyes two feet away at a live show.
Hahah that'd be wild.
Nobody has truly lived yet until you've been at a Bad Seed gig and Nick Cave points at you while he's singing.
that happened to me during a live performance at Alexandra Place 2005, fucking epic.
(Explicit)=understatement of the year, brilliant song
I'd love to join whichever church this is for that amazing revival!!!
Stagger Lee live is fantastic I've seen it a few times and will continue as long as he tours.Warren Ellis takes it to another level especially when he plays the Mercy Seat OMG the fiddle is beautiful. R.I.P. Conway Savage another fantastic part of this amazing band.
Damn didn’t know Conway passed!!
this song -- especially when performed live -- is absolutely, brutally bonkers. always gives me a baaaaaaaaaad smile.
I've seen Nick Cave alone and also with The Bad Seeds and the guy is phenomenal! I'd have LOVED to have been at this show!! Great video! Thanks a lot.
Ha! The woman in the flower dress at 4:35 can't believe what she's just heard ...
A interpretação, a entrega, a letra, o som, a rima.
Mano, Nick Cave é um artista completo. Não há dúvidas
Suas canções de todos os álbuns são muito profundas. Sensacional
💯
Just nothing like this song/performance; mesmerizing and soooo good.
legendary performance
Hell ya 💯
my kingdom to have been there to see him play Stagger Lee.
I don't know when Cave started to include the "in come the Devil" part, but fuck it was a good call
Totally. I love the album version just fine, but I think that addition really makes the song complete. (And it ain't a Nick Cave track til he gets in a lil' bit of that Old Testament Christian imagery!)
He included it with the Abattoir Blues tour years ago.
Geoffrey Whitehouse Brixton Academy 2004 and i was there. ;)
what a performance!!
for the funniest audience reaction to a lyric, see the bald guy at 4:38, under nick's elbow
WHAT a PERFORMER....👍🥂🤠
He could do Shakespeare. Greatest bass progression in history.
Nick Cave is a genius
He’s one of the most brilliant men alive! Wrote the screenplay to Lawless! Unbelievable how much talent in one human body!
I've seen many ACL tapings and this was the best.
Praise him!
OH MY GOD ITS SOO GOOD
Great song, great band!
how good is this?!
This Austin City Limits is amazing. The version of "From Her to Eternity" I would swear he is trying to conjure a demon or something. It's just one of the best things I've ever heard.
Chris Huckeby SO DO I
Nobody tells a story like Nick Cave
Modern Day Jim Morrison!!!
Exactly what I was thinking
WildRiverWild Band even better than that crap
Idk...Jim was on his own level don’t get me wrong nick is great but definitely not better nor the same as Jim. Gotta love that stagger lee!
A comparison which should not be made. He is original.
Morrison was a ranting drunk.
Amazing. Great, great performer.
Nick Cave é um MONSTRO!!!! Fabuloso!
magnificent and timeless
There is no way describing Nick Cave & Bad Seeds, live. The only way describing their shows is being there.
THANK YOU!
A singing poet.
charisma +9000000000
This is great! I came here because I saw the movie 20,000 Days On Earth tonight, and this was in it a few times.
Outstanding!
Amazing
incredible.
As only the genius of Nick Cave could write and produce.
god is in the house ladies and gentlemen
The city of Austin: their laws are firm but fair; they have a woman for a mayor.
Hermoso!
Amazing. Mr. Stagger Lee. Just, amazing.
i love when people say dont palm mute your bass. lol.
🗣 *”Oh Preacher man!”* 💯🎵🎵👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I wish to be there. Amazing.
Didn’t play in my area Ty’s 4 posting!🇺🇸
Fucking awesome. I want to be a rockstar too, mr stagger lee.
That girl in the floral dress looks scared out of her mind. lol
I love ya Nick!
I imagine Stagger Lee as Samuel L. Jackson’s character in Hateful Eight for some reason. I think it’s fitting
I imagine him as John Wayne Gacy. He was violent, had wife, loved boys... Strange thing is that actors look more dangerous than real beasts.
@Cat is that because of the forced oral sex followed by murder? 🤔😅
@@fincarosa yes.
Stagger Lee kills the devil. Awesome!
Wow Denny! What a great experience.
sweet!!!!!
Awesome, Piet.
Best concert ever
Awesoooooooome!!!
That is just fucking dynamic
TI AMO NICK💜
I was there.
Wicked as shit this...what a performance!
sublime:::::
The Dark Elvis.
Elvis's unborn twin craven vengeance.
Danzig has been nicknamed Evil Elvis
nope, cave is his own. however his counterpart and honorary bad seed; jeffrey lee pierce, was always considered an "elvis from hell" or a dark elvis, if you will. cave and debbie harry did a cover of one of his songs on a tribute album to him. it's called the breaking hands, check it out
❤❤❤❤❤
Einstein at the keyboard.
Yes
Not Einstein, Mr Savage Conway. Rest in peace.
Masterful storytellin' of the highest order.....
Fuck Yeah, that was awesome!
This is so good I’m not sure what to say
这个时代的天才不多了 幸好Nick还在
epic!!!!1
haha - fabulous old guys!!!
Fu***** love that shit!
Not to bad keep putting out the hits 👌 🎸
I always feel like Nick wants to break shit on stage but like the band will kick his ass or something so he doesnt lmao
Wow...
Not only the people there get crazy.....me too at home. Such a performance!!!!
