Damn straight he was! Focus is amazing!! But, on the Human album though, being that he was playing for the almighty Chuck, I think he really opened up and played a lot more aggressive like on the Cynic demos. His whole catalogue is incredible anyway, so HAIL SEAN REINERT!!!
Gene Hoglan was great in Death as well. He did Reinert's parts some justice when he played them live. It's just that Sean's style was so incredibly new and different for that type of music when Human came out. Sean borrowed a lot of licks from old Watchtower records.
To the guys talking about a poor or faulty fill at @2:51. I suggest you listen again at 0.75 speed and focus solely on the accents. You may come to realize that sean plays way beyond your listening capabilities...
Hes improving most of them, u can find different dates on this tour, he plays different fills each time, yeah theres some mistakes cause he changes his mind midfill.....
him singing the name zombie ritual in the beginning at 0:11gave me goosebumps.damn it chuck we fucking miss the shit out of you and you left us too soon.
for sure sean reinert is the best death drummer .. i cant feel the fucking feeling of the songs and the versability that he has. he is the best. fucking great .. i wish i can see him playing 1000 eyes from that angle ..
I agree that the man has faltered in the past. All of us make mistakes, we are human. Yet I still stand firm in saying that was an off time snare hit, followed by a quit quad ghost pattern on the snare. The key is that he returned from the fill on time. A great majority of this performance was free flowing improv based fills. All of it is a testament to his natural capacities as a drummer. I praise the man, I do not forget that he is flesh and blood...
Ok now i get your point, its true their tracks got polished in several aspects along the years, i saw them many years ago and can confirm that. i was just trying to point that sometimes that is related with member rotation, death had a long list of performing members. Cheers.
Oh well, one of the reasons I quit playing are performances like this. How the hell does he hear it, translate it and finally play it?! Thanks for confirming my decision was right 15 years ago haha
@drumninmer34 Most of it, yes, but he just randomly loses flow in the middle at the point where I specified. He doesn't really deviate from what's on the album, although there's a lot more fills (and better ones), and the cymbal work also reflects that. That's not to say he's not one of the best metal drummers out there, because he is. But I mean, it's not a bad thing to screw up once in a while.
@Steve128967 Sorry man but I straight up disagree with you. Everything from 2:50-3:00 (just to widen the margin) sounds completely fluent, regardless of if it was improv or not. You had originally referred to it as a "mistake". I don't consider any deviations from the way it's played on the album to be "mistakes". Perhaps you do. Agree to disagree? :P
I don't know they are two kind of different drum players, Richard it's a progressive player and Reinert technical, a beast, I preffer Reinert but I think the two have the hability to play
Is it me, or tempo is screwd up at intro part? Also, isnt this version poor, compared to "Live in L.A."? I mean, i was always a fan of death, sean, or even gene hoglan, but his seems pretty poor... ...my impression? This got 5 stars anyway, because this is a true legendary drummer/band. Cheers.
@drumninmer34 Old comment, but he just kinda like... pauses at 2:53-ish. I'm guessing he improvised like 99% of the fills and couldn't think of an idea there or something, not really a big deal though considering he OWNED the rest of the song.
How about you actually LISTEN to that part and hear that there is ONE (not twenty, or thirty, ONE) mistake in the entirety of this 5 minute video, instead of believing Reinert is some inhuman god who can't do something as simple as fuck up once? That's an utterly fallacious argument. Come on now...

Tight as hell and insane fills. A complete different level even for today's standards...

assholes. it's clear as fuck!!
Hes improving most of them, u can find different dates on this tour, he plays different fills each time, yeah theres some mistakes cause he changes his mind midfill.....
God damn.. I can’t stop watching these videos.
RIP Sean
U can tell he is ad libbing these fills as he goes, AMAZING!!!!
him singing the name zombie ritual in the beginning at 0:11gave me goosebumps.damn it chuck we fucking miss the shit out of you and you left us too soon.
He can play in the most darkness
sean reinert is the best drummer ever period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
for sure sean reinert is the best death drummer .. i cant feel the fucking feeling of the songs and the versability that he has. he is the best. fucking great .. i wish i can see him playing 1000 eyes from that angle ..
Yes that's right. He also was so creative in Focus Cynic album in 1993
R.I.P Sean I am shocked.
thanks for this, makes me respect him even more, R.I.P

@spurqz I hear no mistake at 2:51. I'm assuming that you're referring to the snare fill? Sounds pretty good to me!
How smart .. excelence on fluid yet staccato playing
1:05 XDD what the fuck is that. did he break the soundbarrier or sumtin.
lol, V-drums rocks! Gives a progressive vibe to a rather simple song. Great video again, thanks!
dude those electric drums sound cool
Ok now i get your point, its true their tracks got polished in several aspects along the years, i saw them many years ago and can confirm that. i was just trying to point that sometimes that is related with member rotation, death had a long list of performing members. Cheers.
In absolutely no way is this true. He is always aware of where his 1 is. The fills are just extremely syncopated and/or complex.
RIP Sean
Que tales redobles...!!! muy buenos...!!!
Q pedazo d animal...como toca lpm😮 TREMENDO...!!!
Jesus is MY Favorite ( Sean drummer and song)
I just to say that through the time the song can be modified...Like Tool for example, all their songs evoluate through the years
I don't see what he's playing wrong at 2:51 lmao, I think he plays a rebound roll but it's too quiet to hear
Oh well, one of the reasons I quit playing are performances like this. How the hell does he hear it, translate it and finally play it?! Thanks for confirming my decision was right 15 years ago haha
RIP
Live in L.A was later than Sean period...

@spurqz what mistakes?
Gene Hoglan was able to play his stuff, but i agree for others drummers of Death
lol the trigger pads sounds so much different than the real drums
80s sounding drums
@CryMyName100 They're not big mistakes but he makes them occasionally on human and live videos. For example 2:51

@TheRippingCorpse not only death metal dude .. i meant death for the band not for the genre hahahhhahah.... also richard christy...
@YoungmaykO9 He's not a 'death metal' drummer. He is a drummer who can drum death metal.
@Concept300 not at prank calling
So, you found that by yourself?
I don't know they are two kind of different drum players, Richard it's a progressive player and Reinert technical, a beast, I preffer Reinert but I think the two have the hability to play
Sean puts Chris Reifert to shame on this song.
Reifert was good but he was quite sloppy at times
@Steve128967 Fine, I agree to disagree with you. :)

Sean doesn't forget the song and fuck up at 2:53 he drops his stick and recovers a new one in 2 seconds cuz hes tight
Terrible... Too dark. I like to see the master 🤘

That's such a fucking lie JAJA
Sean Reinert was Death's best drummer but he made the most mistakes
Gene and Christy were better
Madis Kaljurand Richard Christy simplified songs a ton (I mean, I still can’t play like him lol)
Anyone else thinks Hes over playing a little on this one?
