Past Lives was an emotional experience. So subtle yet had a lot to say about destiny, the roads not taken & empathy towards each other. A quietly powerful film. Celine Song's direction was so self-assured. I'm amazed that this was her first feature film.

Unsurprisingly, the two oldest directors, Mann & Payne, seem to be the most laid back & secure. Celine seems to be the most humble. Past Lives was so sweet and full of truth. The end, when they say goodbye, and she goes to her husband and starts crying. I so understood that moment. She lost that little girl, that piece of her past. It's like when you find out, as an adult, that the house you grew up in was torn down or your favorite teacher has passed away. It's sad but there is some closure. She has a chance now to really move forward and form a better, fuller relationship with her husband.

He has no artistic base and there is no indication that he ever wanted to be a filmmaker before acting. I don't get it. He's a good looking man who's reached the top of Hollywood, why try to be a director? To satisfy his own ego? If he really wants to be useful he'd be better at taking a leaf out of Brad Pitt's book and helping to produce projects. I'm sure he could help get a lot of films made due to his reputation.

Yes. Bradley's acting in Maestro is so unconvincing and forced it's hard to take him seriously.

@@SOI-wl2lo His older Bernstein voice was super distracting. Sounded like he had a blocked nose the whole time. I do agree Bradley probably should have stuck to direction and had someone else play the role but his vanity wouldn't allow that to happen. He's very desperate for the Oscar lol.

This video is 50% a roundtable and 50% a puff piece for Bradley Cooper. They appealed too much to his ego and his forced awards campaign in this video.

In 2023, an estimated 6.3 million children under five died, 2.9 million of them in the WHO African Region. This is equivalent to five children under 5 years of age dying every minute. Two thirds of these deaths can be attributed to preventable causes. A third of all these deaths are in the neonatal period. 0:22

Needed Nolan on this panel and not Bradley Cooper who will be harping on how hard he worked for that Cathedral scene. 'Mastero' movie is mid, a clear Oscar bait. Hope Acadamy won't fall for it but I highly doubt it.

Almost every single film that has come out of Hollywood over the past 10+ years has been garbage. I tried finding an English speaking, recently released film to watch this evening, and couldn't find a one. I just shook my head, disgusted, as I scrolled through the listings. Utter garbage. As a HUGE film buff, and having graduated university many years ago where I studied film history, video editing and production, multimedia, graphic design and fine art, I'm just insulted and so very disappointed with today's film making. Everything is stupid and broken anymore. And, it happened so quickly, right before our eyes. So, it's been older films and reruns for me.

Celine Song and Blitz Bazawule do not belong with these other talented filmmakers. They have not made great films. Past lives is one of the worst films of the year. Mann, Payne, Cooper and even Triet are welcome. still, I love all these conversations even if they can't have all winners. Overall a great conversation.

Past Lives was amazing. It's one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year so you are objectively wrong. And based on the Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes & Letterboxd scores a lot of people agree. Just say you were too dense to get it & go! 😂
Also, what a coincidence that its the non-white directors you've singled out. I wonder why? 🙄
