Love these roundtables. I think it would be great to have a writer-director roundtable. There’s a different perspective from people who go from word one to yelling action on set
Why does it feel like the production value, editing and overall interview quality of this roundtable seem less than previous years? While Variety absolutely knocked it out of the park with their actor on actors series which seemed to perfectly pair their actors this year.
I've been thinking this for the past year or so. It's the sound for me. I think they individually mic them where maybe they didn't used to, so it ends up sounding weird when they all make noise together like laughing or talking over each other. They also don't seem to adapt well when one person is quiet and another is loud, or the same person's volume changes, so I'm sitting here constantly turning my volume up and down! It's honestly infuriating and is enough to genuinely put me off watching them!!
I’m rooting so hard for Tony McNamara to win the Oscar for Poor Things!! He has such a delightfully wicked sense of humour and his script for Poor Things is rich on so many levels. It’s like a love letter to being alive, which I think is safe to say we could all do with having a reminder of nowadays! Plus, it would really make up for that The Favourite snub!
The movie drifts so far away from the novel, though. There are so many elements that have been left out that would not qualify it to receive best adapted screenplay.
I wish the whole interview was like the last 8 minutes. I like it most when we can hear their processes, see their personalities, and watch them engage with each other. It would be nice to have a little less time on the work/film itself b/c I feel like the films, industry reviews, interviews, etc, cover a lot of those questions anyhow.
They have had writers roundtables before. But this is the first one I have seen where they have a couple of non-directing writers. Usually it is just writer/directors.
honestly hated this roundtable, not because of the writers, but the way it was edited. felt like they left out all of the conversation and just edited it to show each writer’s response. wish we could’ve seen the writers interact with each other more
It's a crume thst this video had 78k views only compared to actors. I understand why, but these writers gsve live to a lot of great stlries. Kudos to them, I'll take notes
Sorry, but Galloway was the worst moderator ever. Arrogant, condescending to the guests and often asked disrespectful tabloid style questions. So glad he is gone.
I know that writers tend to be more reserved/less assertive when they speak compared to actors and directors, but the sound mix on this is challenging. It was painful listening to the processing on Roth's initial answer.
You know they aren't going to be honest about everything political that's actually been going on and the steep decline of Hollywood. It would've been interesting to hear how much the higher ups actually influence the writing and how much they get limited.
I hated this. Not because of the content, but because it is clear the difference in the treatment on this round table. Just water? The table itself look awkward... Why don't use the same location as the others round tables?
The Killer ins't that great, but I want to see Fincher in one of those roundtable at least once. Take Nolan out and put Greta. But you probably right, your list makes more sense.
@davidlovesfilm well there's also Justine triet for Anatomy of a Fall or Emerald Fennel for Saltburn if they need a female director with merit on the roundtable.
I don’t think Man not Cooper will be in this director’s round table this year actually, their names are not appearing in any awards lists. Only Cooper but as best actor.
Cord Jefferson needs to retire the phrase "sort of" -- it's super distracting and weakens his position/rationale behind artistic choices to unfurl the story.
@@ofilipequintans you call it a demanding job, yet it beats working? Tf r u on about. Im sure most writers know how lucky they are that doesn’t make it magically easy to write, also as if it magically makes them rich just becuz they wrote for a successful movie, most writers dont see that money back
the contrast between the location of the roundtable of the actors and directors and that of the writers is striking...
Love these roundtables. I think it would be great to have a writer-director roundtable. There’s a different perspective from people who go from word one to yelling action on set
but there are 3 this time
so the final scene in past lives when she walks right to left then go back is actually a metaphor of travelling past time? that's so fascinating.
I am smacking my forehead that I didn't realize it in the moment. So simple, so great.
i was stunned by her answer, just loved! i reaaly want to watch, but i need to prepare myself for the crying
You know awards season is officially underway when these come out

@@vickiemily9432 there's definitely a problem with varying sound levels in this video.
Writer Roundtables are the best.
Celine deserves so much recognition during this award season.
The best writers roundtable in a while
The audio levels keep distracting me
Finally nice to a roundatble with non director writers who are often left behind during a film's promo.

Have they ever had one of these? I don't remember one for screenwriters. Anyway, as a budding screenwriter, I loved this!
Yes! All the ones I've heard so far have been excellent
They have had writers roundtables before. But this is the first one I have seen where they have a couple of non-directing writers. Usually it is just writer/directors.
Thank you Andrew Haigh for putting your life/my life on screen.
honestly hated this roundtable, not because of the writers, but the way it was edited. felt like they left out all of the conversation and just edited it to show each writer’s response. wish we could’ve seen the writers interact with each other more
I thought they didn't interact with each other actually... it left me with a feeling of "what a bunch of self centered writers..."
Love all the Hollywood reporter roundtables
The last ten-ish minutes when they all start talking to each other is the best part
It’s 4 minutes bro 😭
Love these roundtables
They've changed the editor many times, but Scott Feinberg has been the most consistent - great interviewer
Celine didn’t pick a script from another movie. Call everyone back. Let’s try this again.
My favourite question was: Where do you write ? & loved the honest replies. I love Network :). I should say I had a great time watching this video :)
Congratulations to you all
Please more directors and screenwriters!
this roundtable was so great, congrants!
I haven't seen Fair Play but it sounds like a very very very nuanced movie
Favorite part of writing process: finishing.
It's a crume thst this video had 78k views only compared to actors. I understand why, but these writers gsve live to a lot of great stlries. Kudos to them, I'll take notes
Hell yeah Hollywood Reporter, using that Artlist music!
So inspiring.
Celine.🏆
Thank you
🦋.
After I saw Celine Song’s “Past Lives,” I went Google Map searching for that last-shot street she describes at 40:40. I found it!
AS A WRITER I FEEL LIKE A NOVICE WHEN LISTENING TO THESE ACCOMPLISHED WRITERS...VERY INFORMATIVE
What happend to Eric Roth mic?
Chloe Domont is the "odd man out " per se...... Great roundtable though, as always.
Who the hell is letting Scott host these!!!
Geez this is a loaded table. Cord is such a cool name.
They really need to get someone other than Scott to host these!!
Please!
Sorry, but Galloway was the worst moderator ever. Arrogant, condescending to the guests and often asked disrespectful tabloid style questions. So glad he is gone.
I think Scott did a great job with insightful questions that were equally targeted across the room
Lacey Rose is the best interviewer bar none.
@davidlovesfilm😂 I can't tell if you're trolling or not but either way I'm amused
Celine song for best director
I know that writers tend to be more reserved/less assertive when they speak compared to actors and directors, but the sound mix on this is challenging. It was painful listening to the processing on Roth's initial answer.
Can anyone please tell me what Eric said at 53:13 after "when i start to get writer's block I change..." ?
"When I start to get writer's block, I change the weather"
“When I start to get writer’s block, I switch Crocs.”
You know they aren't going to be honest about everything political that's actually been going on and the steep decline of Hollywood. It would've been interesting to hear how much the higher ups actually influence the writing and how much they get limited.
No color grading? Why?
So no one has seen each others movies?
THR do an anime directors or actors.
Chloe should check out fight club
the audio is disastrous especially on Eric Roth
14:00
feels like none of them watched each others film :/

Casually shipping Cord and Andrew 🤗🤭
💀
The set for this one is pretty spare + depressing...did they fire the set designer person?
The quote is usually misattributed to Dorothy Parker
Who is going to be on the directors roundtable? Fincher, Scorsese, Yorgos Lanthimos, Todd Haynes, Michael Mann and Nolan would be my dream team.
The Killer ins't that great, but I want to see Fincher in one of those roundtable at least once. Take Nolan out and put Greta. But you probably right, your list makes more sense.

@davidlovesfilm Please don't downplay Greta Gerwig as being only worthy of sitting there for "inclusivity" reasons...
@davidlovesfilm you can't call Greta Gerwig an inclusive pick when she directed the biggest movie of 2023.
I never realized how light-skinned Cord was until this video 😮
👏🏼👏🏼✌🏼🌟🌟🌟🌟💛🧿
Fair play was bad sorry
what happened to the writers of the marvel movies ?
Cord Jefferson needs to retire the phrase "sort of" -- it's super distracting and weakens his position/rationale behind artistic choices to unfurl the story.
Huh??? Fair play. Really? I guess to just force another woman in the lineup.
why are the writers for marvel not here ?
They want 50% women representation
all thes emovies are political so u get nominated if u have your woke agenda in the movies
These stories r so boring. Its just priviledged ppl whining abt how hard it is living in america. Try living in africa if you want hardship.
Again this "hate writing, love having written" Bs?
Why is it bs? Writing is a difficult process for most people
@@nkechi4635 I could name a thousand things that are "a difficult process". Writing is a demanding job. And it beats working.
