    - Game Description -
    Frosthaven is the story of a small outpost far to the north of the capital city of White Oak, an outpost barely surviving the harsh weather as well as invasions from forces both known and unknown. There, a group of mercenaries at the end of their rope will help bring back this settlement from the edge of destruction. Not only will they have to deal with the harsh elements, but there are other, far more dangerous threats out in the unforgiving cold as well. There are Algox, the bigger, more yeti-like cousins of the Inox, attacking from the mountains; Lurkers flooding in from the northern sea; and rumors of machines that wander the frozen wastes of their own free will. The party of mercenaries must face all of these perils, and perhaps in doing so, make peace with these new races so they can work together against even more sinister forces.
    Frosthaven is a standalone adventure from the designer and publisher of Gloomhaven that features sixteen new characters, three new races, more than twenty new enemies, more than one hundred new items, and a new, 100-scenario campaign. Characters and items from Gloomhaven will be usable in Frosthaven, and vice versa.
    In addition to having the well-known combat mechanisms of Gloomhaven, Frosthaven will feature much more to do outside of combat, such as numerous mysteries to solve, a seasonal event system to live through, and player control over how this ramshackle village expands, with each new building offering new ways to progress.
    Frosthaven has a whole new set of items but there is a mechanic for bringing items over from 'Gloomhaven'. However, as it is a remote location, these products get imported and are not there as standard. Resources are much more valuable and you have to build items through a crafting system rather than just buy them.

    The approach to items in FH is much better than in GH. In GH you start with some of the most powerful items in the game available at scenario 1 -- stamina potions, invisibility cloaks, eagle eye goggles, boots of striding, war hammer, etc. In Frosthaven you will start with meager items but the sense of advancement when you upgrade will be much better. In GH you could unlock entire prosperity levels of items and think "nope, don't want any of that, what I already have is better".

    Playing our third session tonight! Headed into the first boss battle and couldn't be more excited. Haven't felt this way since I played the gloomhaven for the first time five-ish years ago.

    Cannot wait to get my copy, sadly still no tracking info yet, but I know its coming. My group just played through JotL and we are working through Gloomhaven now, so will still be some time before we start our Frosthaven, even when it arrives. I am still very excited about the changes, "crafting" is one of my favorite parts of RPGs and I cannot wait to see how its implemented here.

    Big fan of Gloomhaven and JotL. Would love to get a copy of Frosthaven but there is no chance of that in the UK right now. All retailer pre orders from the campaign are already sold. No idea how long it will be before Cephalofair can get a 2 print into the hands of retailers. So vids like this a torture. 😂. But still great. Looking forward to more FH content from you!

    It's funny. I'm about to start frosthaven today, chose the banner spear as my first class, and my retirement goal is to just clear this specific scenario that it automatically unlocks. I'm honestly tempted to do it, and then just recreate my banner spear without the exp. Bonus perk, almost immediate building unlock, seems like a win win.

    I can't wait to see the city that changes as characters retire. I love when things in the game change the rest of the game.

    So you can just fish out items from the original Gloomhaven and add them to Frosthaven?

  • @barrystephens6808
    @barrystephens6808 Год назад +1

    So with Summons dropping loot- do you count character summons?
    With the Boneshaper being able to summon so frequently, and being allowed to kill them at a whim, wouldn’t that character just become a way to farm loot?
    What’s stopping you from just spending turns creating summons and killing them while another character keeps healing them to keep the process going?

  • @xragg
    @xragg Год назад +2

    We always allowed our characters to trade gear outside of dungeons. Never made sense that we wouldn't be allowed, as if there was an Inox sherriff wagging his finger at us, no no no, you have to use a merchant, goverment rules.

    • @dwarf74
      @dwarf74 Год назад +1

      It's all about balance. Trading worked in JotL because there's no retirement. With retirement, you can just hand off your gear to another character. It'll spiral out of balance rapidly.

    • @xragg
      @xragg Год назад +3

      @@dwarf74 We don't give equipment away, trade. Equal value for equal value. This instead of selling it for half, and rebuying it for full. When something is looted in a dungeon, at the end we reward it to whoever we decide. I forget the exact class names, but a couple of the classes were fast and mobile, getting most of the loot. I know I played a character with a bear that barely ever left the first room, almost never looted. That is the problem I had and saw no reason not to award dungeon loot to whoever we choose. We plan to do it in Frostgrave too. Not saying you are wrong if you want to play by the strictest and to the letter. The fact that there were several changes from Gloomhaven to Frosthaven just shows they knew rules could be improved, like invisibility. I didn't realize they blocked in Gloom, as we I guess played it wrong and did it like it is in Frosthaven. Not intentionally, but it made sense to us that way.

    I know it's often recommended for newbs to start with Jaws of the Lion before playing Gloomhaven. Do you think a seasoned gamer would be okay to jump straight into Frosthaven without any prior Gloomhaven experience?

    • @gunward2835
      @gunward2835 Год назад +1

      There is a shorter beginner-friendly scenario in Frosthaven (Scenario 0) with some rules simplification that allows new and newer players to become a bit more comfortable playing the game. For a seasoned gamer I think that is a perfectly fine start, if you don't want to invest money and time in Jaws of the Lion.

    • @jaylegleiter6669
      @jaylegleiter6669 Год назад

      I would start with Jaws first, to at least see if you like the gameplay. Dropping 300 dollars on a game you don't know if you'll like or not seems crazy

    poison was always OP.... they really should have made it a heal shield, instead of heal stop (aka eats 1 heal point before you gain the HP). a heal 10 being totally stopped is ridiculous if you're poisoned.

    • @Quackalope
      @Quackalope  Год назад +1

      The heal stop is rough

    • @borgcolect
      @borgcolect Год назад

      @@Quackalope I would be ok with a partial stop, or a "stop if less than 5" or something. But when you only have a single heal source to remove it, and it's a heal 10, that's just not balanced lol :)

    • @BalooSJ
      @BalooSJ Год назад +2

      I don't know. I kind of like the tactical aspect of it, and it means you might want to put some thought into what order to do things in ("Do I use my big healing potion now to remove the poison and play my smaller heal to actually heal next round, or do I hold off on the big heal and risk taking more damage while poisoned?")
