@@Quackalope are there expansions for Root that you think are great and add to the core game? I only have the basic game. The issue is it's hard to ever get a game going, so I never feel like adding MORE is a smart thing to do. But if some of that more would make the base game just better... Then I would give that a try.
@@binnieb173 Root Veteran here. I have everything but the playmates. Root is notoriously hard to table because most people feel like it's too much for them. Because of this I'd say your first expansion should be Clockwork 1 so that you can play it solo or at lower player counts but with bots to keep the golden four faction player count up. Once you have that I'd grab the Exiles and Partisans deck for the first small thing. It's a significantly better deck but also gives you some interesting variety to the game. Beyond that I think it depends on what you like most about Root. Do you like big army factions? Maybe go Marauder. It gives you two great heavyweight factions. Though the Keepers in Iron are notoriously complex to master. While the Lord of Hundreds is just a fun big army faction. It will also give you an introduction to hirelings. Both of these elements of more big army factions and hirelings make two player root way more fun. But let's say you like more insurgent factions and like learning more unique and complex factions. And you really like the vagabond: Go Riverfolk. It will give you a faction of cultist bent on converting the woodland to their dark faith and a marketplace faction that is trying to make bank by selling their wares and mercenaries. You will also get three new vagabonds as well as a second vagabond board so that you can have two vagabond players at once. If you absolutely love the vagabond and have the Riverfolk expansion: grab the Vagabond pack. It will give you three new vagabonds as well as a custom meeple for every vagabond in the game. Giving you a total of 9 vagabonds to choose from. Want a taste of both a new militant faction and an insurgent faction and want more maps to play on? Go Underground expansion. You'll get a ministry of royal moles bent on colonizing the surface. Able to dig and pop up anywhere on the map and conquer clearings while they build their engine of royal ministers to gain more power. Or be an underground cell of saboteurs. Planting bombs and traps and playing mind games with your hidden plots to keep your opponents guessing. Then play on two new maps with a mountain map with new paths that you can uncover and a king of the hill mechanic at its center. Or a lake map with a giant lake in the middle making travel more limited with a raft that players will battle for control over. Root is very versatile. I really recommend getting it all but I built my collection gradually. If you want a good path I'd say follow what sounds interesting to you. But first and foremost grab the first clockwork expansion so that you can table Root whenever you want and won't be pulling teeth to try and get people to play it. TL:DR: 1. Clockwork 1> 2. Exiles and Partisans Deck > 3. Choose what you want more off: More militant factions + Hirelings: Marauder / More Insurgent Factions + more Vagabond: Riverfolk + Vagabond Pack / Bit of both Militant and Insurgent factions + More maps: Underground. > 4. If you have all of the big expansions then completionism would mean grab the Clearing Markers, Clockwork 2 and the remaining Hirelings and the playmats.
Terraforming Mars is an evergreen for us too! Love to see you getting back to immersing yourself in games you love. We’re only 1.5 years in as a channel, and the aspect of new new new has already been overwhelming us with our content. We have too many wonderful games that we haven’t been able to get more than 1 or 2 plays on, as we’re always driven forward. Time for a change and a shift.
I have played Catharsis several times and couldn't get into it. I liked the idea but there were so many grammatical errors on the cards and nonsensical art that I was mixed between enjoyed the gameplay and being totally distracted by the presentation. Some of the art is just bizarre and seemed so unrelated to what the actual card is. I didn't get it.
That’s to bad - I enjoy the story (due to dyslexia I don’t often notice errors to be honest) and really like the mechanics engine behind it! I’m also a bit more forgiving to small or new publishers. This is by far the most indi game in the list. I can see those frustrations being a limiting factor however! So I understand :)
Love the shout out at 9:33 ! Yeah, I'm definitely obsessed with TM. My kids enjoy it as well. I am always up for playing it if you're in the mood to try and end my winning streak against you...
I wanted to love Dune imperium more than I did. Havent tried uprising, but I found i had too little control on my deck in DI and last game I playes, gave up half way and spent all my energy buying spice must flow... Eventually came back and won, but it was so boring. The game felt broken from that point on and I moved on. I am sad cause I don't have a good deck builder hy rid iny collection
I really need to try Uprising! I played the original Dune Imperium and liked it, but it kind of got overshadowed by Lost Ruins of Arnak for me, and I haven't had a chance to play Dune Imperium again...
Has anyone created a scoring system for final girl so there's a way to compare each other "scores" we took a look at final girl we thought it might be a cook game to have set up were people are trying to beat each other best score.
Cleveland! Your only 3 hours away from me. I can bring the Taco's since Tuesday is game night. 😅😊 I'd love to try kingdom of death, it has my interest peaked, but with the $450 price tag or $800 for everything is a tuff sell if I can only solo it.
My regulars are Root, Oath and Moonrakers: Titan. Still play The Grizzled and Catan as the games that started it all. I'd love to get into KDM too I'm just wondering if I'd have the patience for the model making. I like the idea of having a boss battler/campaign game. I am waiting on Arcs so maybe that will help but having a more RPG style game would be great. I have also been getting into chess lately. Currently rivaling a 1500 player. I'm no master but I can hold my own now.
Finally another quackelope video. Looking sharp dude, even the studio is decked out. Very classy. Imhavent even watched 2 minutes and I’m digging the video already. How about lorcana still playing it. Excited about it at all. Btw thunder road vendetta is really fun and always up for some kanban😀
Nice video. I enjoyed it a lot and it made me look forward to your new content. On a side note, nice outfit too! The whole thing feel refreshing! Oh, what the heck, I'm going to say it too: THE QUACK IS BACK, LOL!
Even as someone who isn't a streamer I find it difficult to get back to games that I love. There is always so many new games to look at. This year I've been trying to hold off on buying new games unless I see something in them that is unique or a must have.
oh man, we have 6 games in common we are obsessing over, it really goes to show you how much of an influence your tastes had on me, some games I'm also obsessing over are Twilight Imperium 4th Edition with the Prophecy of Kings Expansion which I finally found a group of friends crazy enough to want to tackle this game twice per month! the other game is Cloudspire, ive only played it once but I've been thinking about it over and over again for the better part of a year. on another note, when you called Berserk " berserker" you broke my heart a little bit
. . . This list makes you think that? :) I like story, I love RPG's, but . . . this list is not a collection of RPG like games! I has quite a range / mix of options.
Great vid Jesse! I'll never complain about Root content!
Haha, more on the way! Working on some tonging :)
More Root? I'm all for it!
More root :) - some solo games first and foremost!

Back to the Root(s)!
The new deck of cards for sure and I like the corvid but they are best with the higher counts :)
Clockworks are cool - digging into them now.
Quack is back! Love the energy and the new direction. I'm in!
Yay! Thank you!

Well you are looking sharp! 😊

yay the the quack is back! great video

Root best game ever made
Well, we are about to dive neck deep into it again :)
Have you tried the terraforming mars dice game, it's pretty fun and quick
I haven’t played it yet :)

have you went back to it with the expansions added in? For me, they really stepped the game up to another level!
Probably good gameplays with, of course, good camera angles and view is the key to make this channel go wild again
More to come :)
Are there going to be anymore Oathsworn videos?
If we can find the time absolutely!
I find Dune way too easy. Heat now that's a game everybody loves! LOL
Classic, I obsessed over it for one and half games . . . Now I hate it :)
@@Quackalope Yeah the simple math is not for everyone. The worst is when you mess your turn up and nobody lets you fix it.

I don’t know if a scoring system is set up - would be fun to find out!
It’s a bit random at times though :) so, maybe hard to gauge!
It's nice to see you more relaxed and enjoying making the video again.
😁

Some great games to dig into deeply! I just . . . Can't get into chess. The memorization of movements is too much!
STS is so so good. The multiplayer is so well made and it's so faithful to the source. I was play tester !
Amazing! Can’t wait to get some more plays of it in! I have it organized and hope to play tonight :)
Nice video sir. Happy to see you back and happy 🎉
We doing it, we having fun!

Oh man Jesse we gotta play Dune Imperium uprising together…
Come on over :) . . . no, like, really . . . when are you free?
I'd love to jump on ROOT, but I hope one day they release a Big Box because hunting everything is a chore
Big box would be greet! I’m sure it’s in their plans - it’s too successful and would be a money maker for them.
So if your playing slay the spire the board game alone what’s stopping you from playing the video game version.
I like the board game system and prefer to be off my phone as much as possible.
Man, I haven't checked in on this channel in a while. You're looking healthy these days. Good for you ❤
Thanks so much :) life is good!
This might be my favorite video that you've created in a long time, Jesse! This is the kind of content that I really dig!
Wow, thanks!
Nice to not be sold to while getting insights to games. Looking forward to the new/old direction.
Cheers! :) glad to be here!
I went through my collection looking for my own Top 10… I now am looking at a list of 20 games I want to obsess over 🤪

Don’t be heartbroken about my reading :) it’s just dyslexia!
Jealous! Still waiting for my copy of slay the spire! Great list of games and a great topic!
I have it organized and working on learning it today!
Not for nothing.... but you mostly just seem to want to play TTRPG's.
. . . This list makes you think that? :) I like story, I love RPG's, but . . . this list is not a collection of RPG like games! I has quite a range / mix of options.
A good few things to add to my 'To Play' list, thankyou!
Glad to add to the list!
Great video !
Catharsis is such an underrated/not known enough game. It killed dice throne, dice throne adv and other yatzhee style game for me
Agree!!!
More classics? If you insist... HELL YES :)
These games are some of the most delectable :)
GREAT STUFF! Keep it up!
YOU'RE an addictive game.
No, I was an Addictive game . . . now I am a husband :D
Hi Jesse! Just wanted to say hi 😂
XD Quack
Good to see you back Jesse! Keep it up!
Hey, thanks!
Great video all the way through 🤙🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Dune Imperium, insanely good! Dune uprising, cheap shot release for loyal Imperium players. Should have been a 6 player expansion.
Haha, I like some of the changes and I don't mind the re-buy. Honestly, I think it has some legs to stand on! However, I understand the annoyance :)
Love this!
Aww thanks :P
Was Catharsis a kickstarter only?
Nope! It’s available from their website - I put it in the description!
