The story behind this is that sir Antony Hopkins compossed this peace in the late 60's while he was a classical musican himself. Never dared doing anything with it for years. After many, many years his wife convinced him to let it be played en recorded. He reached out to Andre Rieu and finally he could hear his own composetition
Correct. He was 19 years old when he wrote this beautiful music.
Every time when I hear it, thinking of that this could be perfect music in a typical Italian movie or a scene in The Godfather, at the wedding in Part I.

Anthony stayed a few nights at a small hotel on the Vrijthof. He was extremely friendly for the hotel staff. Totally down to earth person.

Yay my idol, best actor ever!! And to see him humble enough to just between the people in the audience is just wow, just a legend! Not to mention the fact that the people actually give him his privacy and not running up to him for autographs or pictures, but just let him enjoy what he wrote, also wow and only in The Netherlands, where our motto is "Doe maar gewoon, dan doe je al gek genoeg"!

My lifepartner is a lot of time abroad for his work. So my younger brother asked me to go to a concert of
Andre Rieu and other concerts. What was special about it, my brother only listened to hardrock, but now he also listens, , to other music, he even listens to classical music.
AS a Metalhead my selfe i have to tell you, Metalheads and Rockfans often hear Classic Musik. Nothing goeas over a good old Bach and Beethoven.

This beautiful square is called the Vrijthof in the centre of Maastricht. I used to play there as a kid. I remember the moment they found the 2000 year old Roman graveyard while building the car parking under the square. The Romans stayed at Mosam Trajectum (Maastricht) for 400 years!
Imagine that what you composed and what you've heard so many times in your own head, now is performed. And by the looks of Sir Anthony Hopkins face he totally 'agreed' with how the performance should be. The music is even better now you know the 'background'. Thanks for sharing and your reaction.

Maybe check out Jermaine Jackson with the orchestra performing Smile. He called André because Michael told him he should perform with a large orchestra, and when he saw André and the orchestra perform he knew that it had to be with him. It is so touching because the one that needs the meaning of the song the most is Jermaine himself!

La historia real es q sirve hopkins escribió este walz a los 19 años.penso q nadie quería escuchar su composición. Lo dejó atrás por la actuación. Su esposa encontró en el desván esta partitura y se puse en contacto con la secretaría de él. Y la secretaria se puso en contacto con Andre y de ah esta genialidad. Fue una sorpresa de su mujer hacia él.

Those seats on the Vrijthof, Maastricht, that close to the stage are not for ordinary people. Those seats will cost you quite a bit. Though, fair is fair: cheapest tickets for a rockconcert might cost you more nowadays.

This is the first time I disliked a video on your channel. Not for your reaction, but for not showing (and probably not knowing) the introduction about this waltz and that it was composed by Sir Anthony Hopkins himself before his acting career.
Can't remember the reason behind it, but back then both came in contact, probably exchanged some info, and by surprise Andre Rieu adapted the composition slightly to what you hear now.
I think it's an amazing composition, first written by a very gifted actor and as it seems musician...
