The Stooges and MC5 were quintessential to shaping the future of punk rock. My personal favorite Ron Ashton tone was on the Fun House album. That wire-y strat sound with the fuzz kicked in on "Down on the Street" is absolutely destructive

@@oddfutureisdopeasfk Wire-y like how Ron Ashton had his overdrive sound very bright and brittle. For example, Fun House Ron was using a Strat bridge pickup into Marshalls. This is also reflected in the nature of the Fuzzrite sound, it's bright and abrasive.

@@oddfutureisdopeasfk That's how he was able to sit well on top of Scott Ashton's pounding drums and Dave Alexander's driven rubbery bass (he was using a Mosrite Ventures with neck pickup only, also running into Marshall)

I remember I first heard Raw Power in about 1998 when I bought the Iggy remix from that huge record shop that used to be on Piccadilly Circus (Tower Records? I can't remember) that's now long gone. I can't remember why I even bought it: I didn't really know Iggy other than "Lust For Life" due to the resurgence it was having at the time via Trainspotting. It was like someone firing up a blowtorch into my face the first time I heard "Search & Destroy". That outro. Holy fuck. Absolutely thermonuclear. Instant love.

Kick ass! Thanks man... very cool! 3 versions exist... a precursor to the one you have which resulted in a cease and desist from Ron's estate attorney..lol , which let to the RCF in your hand... both modified versions of the Fuzzrite. Then the Germanium Vox Tone Benders with Ron's face on them, which his sister Kathy was kind enough to license to Daredevil. Those have all been sold off and the last one, which was my personal one, I ended up gifting to Wayne Kramer... for obvious reasons. So that's the short of it.. I got to hang out with DK too albeit not Jello but DH was amazing and the size of his arms can't be underestimated. The man is huge. He said he swapped drugs for working out. If you dig that sound you may enjoy a Pacific Northwest band from the 90's called TAD. CIRCLE OF TONE. Actually, it is Lollar, but...
“Sometimes you have to go to the source. This pickup is based on the Les Paul that guitarist James Williamson used on the Stooges' 1973 classic release Raw Power. A musical touchstone, the album is widely considered a major influence in the creation of punk rock. In 2009, on the eve of a reunion tour for Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Williamson left the Les Paul he used on Raw Power at the Lollar shop for several weeks so our team could study it. We took the pickups apart to undercover its secrets, and with Williamson's permission, created duplicates of the original pickup set, which are late 1960s Gibson T Tops. Now you can grab some raw power for yourself. Made with Alnico 5 magnets, it features double black bobbins and no cover. Single conductor braided shield lead wire.”

I loved recording a demo in a mic-ed up room, all playing together. Yeah, we were shit, not good musicians in a shit studio with crap equipment, but I loved it. The result, well, not the best, but I think all music should be recorded that way. Everything else is fake. Imagine a classical orchestra doing recording that way. Just the 100 musicians doing their thing on a separate track, massive post editing, repeating one good snippet of the take 15 times, and just add the 100 tracks together. Would anybody buy that recording? I doubt it.

I am not a punk, but I get the attitude. I was at some festival as a kid (back when festivals had good music, but it was already about marketing and ripping off foreigners etc), and it was super expensive, so we were eating food that the rich foreigners left over, and pizza slice dropped on the grass, stuff like that, and I saw people dressed like punks queueing for like a 10-dollar hotdog. I was like, how "ture" is that?

Great repro man sounded epic.... Such a rich topic of Fuzz I say bc it's widely misused. This idea of diming it into a driving amp is absurd you're simply toying around with borderline white noise. All of the richness in tone comes from the harmonics which are found in well managed gain staging. Are we guitar players or saturation sampling DJ's?

A Gibson Flying V was used for the songs recorded on the first day (I Wanna Be Your Dog, No Fun, 1969, Ann/The Dance of Romance, We Will Fall), and a Stratocaster for the second recording session (Not Right, Real Cool Time, Little Doll). I don’t know what was used for “Asthma Attack” but it’s most likely the Flying V too.
