My windshield on my Tesla Model 3 is going into the shop next Thursday for replacement. Here in Grants Pass, OR, Our Safelite won't do mobile service so I have to drive to Medford, OR but that's okay it's about a 35 min drive. We have Geico and a zero deductible, (that's a no brainer if you live in Oregon) Awesome service from Geico, they made the process very quick and easy too! The only thing I was concerned with was the windshield calibration, hope that also works without having to take it to Tesla Portland. Thank You for your video!
You need to calibrate it on the display after install if it does not function normally a service appointment needed it’s about $95. Make sure you getting OEM Tesla glass. We have Geico and it’s free for generic but brand OEM is $45. Make sure you get OEM it has the right housing for the cameras!
I work for safelite I’ve done many teslas, as a technician I can tell you most of what your saying is very incorrect. Doing auto glass is a very difficult skill and it takes years to get good at its not cool to make videos not knowing what your talking about trying to “share” info with others. I know your free to say what you’d like but I must say your very misinformed.
Agreed, auto reglazing is not something for cowboys to “give it a go”. It needs to be done to industry standards to keep the driver and passengers safe in the case of an impact.
Same here. Been in the business 28 years owned my own business for 24 now. Everything about this video is incorrect as far as the narration goes. Watching these videos on RUclips literally blow my mind how misinformed and uneducated these people are and then share that with other people
$670 for my model 3 installed third party. Didn't want Tesla crap windows. People have reported replacing OEM three times in a year. You do not have to get any cameras readjusted or calibrated!!!!!
This was fun to watch while Safelite replace my windshield lol. Sidenote you don’t have to create a Tesla service appointment to have them re-calibrate the cameras. Just go into the car menu > service and click camera calibration. After a few miles of driving auto pilot features that should work again
If a Tesla part then it is not an OEM it is an OE. OEM would be a "Saint Gobain" that is the manufacturer. But is not an OE "Original Equipment" This is a common misconception that OEM is original -- If you want an original part then ask for OE. There are other glass companies other than Safelite. Lot's of independents that can do as good as Safelite or better. If using a quick cure adhesive then why did they need to put tape on it? Ycats
Holding a windshield in with adhesive only is not "new tech". This has been done since AT LEAST the early 70's. Its the normal way a windshield is held in.
@@megawatts that's awesome. I worked in a factory for a bit that was putting in cameras on the vehicles and they required a fair bit of calibration with some alignment machines that communicated with the vehicle computer. Cool to know that's not always needed.
@@JamesOliverLindsey as long as OEM front glass with autopilot cameras housing in place should be good. We just reset on the display ourselves and drove it for a bit and all is good.

Autoglass tech here. Been in the business for 18yrs. I hate how bad he is at commenting this.

Thank you, that's good information to keep in mind. 😃

Thanks we did that in service but Tesla recommend to go in for them to run a diagnostic
You got that right, Tesla is the only vehicle in the world that recalibrate itself after your windshield replacement
Thanks for the info, i also have Geico for insurance , but have to contact them and ask about my coverage regarding to Windshield replacement.
I'm surprised the glass is put on in such a medieval way. I thought if it had a spot to fit into, which is easy, no frog tape needed.
Seamless glass all glue the a Pilar do provide support from R to L and the lower part of the Frunk, otherwise all glue
@@megawatts i think the stuff is called poly urethane. it is used on pretty much all vehicles now days.

What is that electrical connector for at 8 seconds? Temperature Sensor? It has three leads taped to the windshield...
Thanks for sharing, is it Comprehensive coverage and your deductible is $50 is your insurance high?
Comprehensive is $50
Model 3s have thin glass.
I was told that the car would have a voided warranty if I did it with safe light
Void to what? Did they say?
Holding a windshield in with adhesive only is not "new tech". This has been done since AT LEAST the early 70's. Its the normal way a windshield is held in.
how much did it cost to replace?
Our deductible was $50 for OEM, insurance covered 1.1k for the remaining balance.
@@megawatts Did Geico send an insurance adjuster out to inspect the damage on the old glass first?
What would you schedule the appointment on the mobile app for the recalibration? Thanks
They don’t come out anymore you have to go into service s center. But last windshield replaced we just reset it on our display ourself.
$50 deductible on a Tesla? I can only imagine your monthly premium.
Did they have to recalibrate the front camera?
Only through the service display screen.
@@megawatts is that something only a tesla technician can do or is that possible by anyone through the display?
@@JamesOliverLindsey we actually had another window replaced and just reset on the screen display ourselves

Ad-Safelite
Tesla don't make there own glass so the calibration will work with any glass manufacturer
Tesla OEM factory glass has housing to camera more aligned than generic
