Godzilla (Japanese: ゴジラ, Hepburn: Gojira, /ɡɒdˈzɪlə/; [ɡoꜜdʑiɾa] (About this soundlisten)) is a fictional monster, or kaiju, originating from a series of Japanese films. The character first appeared in the 1954 film Godzilla and became a worldwide pop culture icon, appearing in various media, including 32 films produced by Toho, four Hollywood films and numerous video games, novels, comic books and television shows. Godzilla has been dubbed the "King of the Monsters", a phrase first used in Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956), the Americanized version of the original film.
Godzilla is an enormous, destructive, prehistoric sea monster awakened and empowered by nuclear radiation. With the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Lucky Dragon 5 incident still fresh in the Japanese consciousness, Godzilla was conceived as a metaphor for nuclear weapons.[29] Others have suggested that Godzilla is a metaphor for the United States, a giant beast woken from its slumber which then takes terrible vengeance on Japan.[30][31][32] As the film series expanded, some stories took on less serious undertones, portraying Godzilla as an antihero, or a lesser threat who defends humanity. Later films address themes including Japan's forgetfulness over its imperial past,[33] natural disasters and the human condition.[34]
Godzilla has featured alongside many supporting characters. It has faced human opponents such as the JSDF, or other monsters, including King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla and Gigan. Godzilla sometimes has allies, such as Rodan, Mothra and Anguirus, and offspring, such as Minilla and Godzilla Junior. Godzilla has also fought characters from other franchises in crossover media, such as the RKO Pictures/Universal Studios movie monster King Kong, as well as various Marvel Comics characters, including S.H.I.E.L.D.,[35] the Fantastic Four[36] and the Avengers.
The first film, Godzilla, was directed by Ishirō Honda and released by Toho in 1954. It became an influential classic of the genre. It featured political and social undertones relevant to Japan at the time. The original introduced an acclaimed music score by Akira Ifukube, reused in many later films. The 1954 film and its special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya are largely credited for establishing the template for tokusatsu, a technique of practical special effects filmmaking that would become essential in Japan's film industry since the release of Godzilla (1954).[14] For its North American release, the film was localized in 1956 as Godzilla, King of the Monsters!. It featured new footage with Raymond Burr edited together with the original Japanese footage.
The popularity of the films has led to the franchise expanding to other media, such as television, music, literature and video games. Godzilla has become one of the most recognizable symbols in Japanese pop culture.
Several of the films have political themes, others have dark tones, complex internal mythology, or are simple action movies featuring aliens or other monsters, while others have simpler themes accessible to children. The name Godzilla is a romanization of the original Japanese name Gojira (ゴジラ)-which is a combination of two Japanese words: gorira (ゴリラ), "gorilla", and kujira (クジラ), "whale". As developed by Toho, the monster is an offshoot of the combination of radioactivity and ancient dinosaur-like creatures, indestructible and possessing special powers. - Авто/Мото

Luv how you call out the scalper prices on Ebay- So True.
LOL, yup!
Reminds me a lot of the 1964 version of the suit from Godzilla vs Mothra. The blue lightning decals for the helmet also remind me of King Ghidorah's projectile attack

Whoever designed this kit back in the day was very creative! Love the fine details here like the roller skate on Godzilla's tail!
Couldn't agree more!
My brother was a huge Godzilla fan and would have loved this model. He died yesterday morning and this is very hard to watch. But thank you Chris, for posting this. It reminds me of the good times we had.
Sad to hear, take care of yourself and build a Zilla kit for him!
The roller skate on the tail had me cracking - up ......very funny......

Dam well done, yet again.....

I could imagine this being an unlockable in a wacky monsterverse kart racing game
Really like anything Godzilla related, and this one is so cute. But I don't think that tiny little parachute is gonna do much good, but that makes it even funnier. Great job. Really like the shading effects you did to Godzilla.
Thanks!
Love it, Great Job.
Thank you! Cheers!
What a fun looking model. And as always you did a superb build and paint job.

Outstanding Colors that really stand out! Thanks for sharing your talent and techniques! Godzilla is my favorite of that line, with Wolfman coming in at a close second!💨
Yeah, hoping I'll get to do the rest!
What very cool kit

Picked this up today for a good price. Thanks so much for the tutorial, this will be my summer project. Could I ask what glue you use?
I like Plastruct Bondene but all the modern liquid model glues are good.
Thanks for the advice@@hpiguy 👍
Hi Chris, what glue do you use when you assembly your kits. I always see you paint but I can't recall you ever saying your favorite glue. Thanks, love your work!
I've mentioned it a few times but all the modern liquid glues work well. I personally prefer Bondene by Plastruct. Modelroundup.com sells it.
@@hpiguy Thanks Chris
A cool little kit 👍🏻

Do a pickup truck next
Hi Chris! Love It Love It Love It! Have a good one!
Thanks for stopping by!
thanks for these videos, really gives me some good cars to bash and edit for model vehicle and action figure animations, if you could, could you maybe do some videos of kits that'd be good for stop motion animators? (ones that like to make scenes of cars falling apart in fights and stuff. and no, not as in actual destruction, just ones that could be held together without glue or cement so that, example, a crash, parts can be taken off.)
Also, if you could, could you tell me what (FS) means at the end of model roundup model entries?
Thanks for watching!
I review new release/reissue plastic kits, so I'm not sure I'd do things that can be used for motion animators. It all depends on what the model companies issue.
I don't know what FS is as I have not seen it. If it's something on their website you'd have to ask them directly. Thanks!
No problem, thanks for the response.
Very cool keep it up!!!!!

Hey Chris, Amazon is using screenshots from your video to sell this kit!! Your RUclips page is clearly identified in the photos.
Yes, that's Round2's Amazon sales portal. They are welcome to use the images.
@@hpiguy I'm just happy to see you getting more exposure.
@@LiberalsArePoop Thanks for keeping an eye out, appreciated.
If you notice someone is using my images but wiping the watermarks off let me know.
There was a website doing so recently and I was able to get them to stop using my images to sell their stuff and not giving me credit for my work.
@@hpiguy will do. And keep up the great work!
Great job, Haruo Nakajima is smiling in Heaven 😊😎

Too bad you couldn't play Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult as your painting music...would have been classic
LOL, yeah. Would be fun to use music like that on builds.
Nice straight-forward build......What was that gizmo you had with a wooden-handle, holding the exhaust/w flame piece ?
Those are called jewelers vices.
Hi. Please sell me this model you built. Let me know. Ty
Is it me, or do most of the drivers on the freeway these days have the exact same expression on their faces?
LOL! Probably!
Scale model?HAHAHA.
What could be more THREATENING than Godzilla?
Godzilla on a GO KART ! !
Looking real enough to frighten a puppy dog. Yet silly enough to be enjoyably laughable.
GREAT BUILD, Chris. But you might want to steer clear of the big green guy behind the wheel!
