Great coverage as always. One little hint - in slavic languages "C" is always pronounced like tz (e.g. tzar), so Vacek is pronounced Vatzek. Only with caron "Č" (and with cz in polish) it is pronounced soft - like CH (e.g. chilli)

@@ChrisHornerCyclingYeah, he might not be a super high mountain solo away from the peleton guy, but he’s like you with a solid climbing motor that with proper tactics he gets a free ride on wheels and can hang with who’s at this edition of La Vuelta.

Great coverage has usual. Hoping for Almeida to do a great vuelta, regular and not losing time so he doesnt need to close gaps and damage control and hoping for a bit of explosiveness to win some time, maybe stages. Roglic still favourite for what i'de like to see.

I’d appreciate your perspective on this.
As a fan of road cycling, I’m still on the learning curve regarding team tactics.
One of the barriers I’ve encountered are the team uniforms.
Don’t get me wrong, individually the jerseys are really cool. But the cacophony of color makes it hard to pick out individual teams when looking at the peloton in an aerial shot. This is a big deal in a sport the crams 20 teams into a very tight piece of real estate.
For experienced fans, this may be a non-issue. But I would guess that if races like the Tour de France want to grow the fan base, they need to bring in fans like me and help us decode the intricacies of the race. I can’t tell you how many times a TV commentator is making a great point and I am struggling to identify the riders he or she is talking about.
I would love it if they would make team jerseys Television friendly. Using the Tour de France as an example, here’s the kind of change that I would find helpful.
MAKE THE COLOR YELLOW TRULY ELITE. Only 5 riders should have any yellow on their uniforms or bikes:
• The GC leader should have the yellow jersey and yellow helmet
• The 2nd through 5th place GC riders of the stage should also have yellow helmets.
This allows TV viewers to see the position of the leaders quickly without having to search for them.
Every other rider is prohibited from having any yellow on their uniforms or bikes.
GIVE EACH TEAM ONE COLOR ON THE COLOR PALETTE ( one team gets blue, another gets red)
• Make the jerseys a single color with the same color helmet (the jerseys are busy enough with all of the sponsor logos and for god’s sake what’s with the white helmets?!)
Some teams do this already. In the Vuelta, EF Education’s pink jerseys and matching helmets make them easy to spot. The same goes for Euskaltel and their orange kit. On the other end the spectrum fully 2/3 of the riders are wearing some variation of blue.
What do think? Am I totally off base here?

I have 2 different lupine taillights. One uses a magnetic charging cable. Kind of clever, but unique. The other uses a usb micro connection. Seriously? How about usb C for both? I like them, don't care about the car alert function from Garmin, but these are really expensive, so i expect them to be state of the art. Note: the Rotlicht is great, but if you run the light at the brightest or near brightest levels, you need to charge it almost after every ride.
Btw, i hate zip ties and clamping stuff to the seat post. It just looks unfinished, so i like the ability of both lights to attach them to the seat rails.
Lupine are crazy how much adjustability they have. If you have the app you can adjust the power levels of the lights to your liking. I first started using them in 2019. Love them. 👊🦋

Primoz still have lingering pain. So, it's too soon to know his form. He is the favorite now by default, but not buying it yet. He was flying at PN ITT, just to get dropped in the mountain. So ..too soon. It's still open race. Almeida looks good though, we'll see how he handled the 3 week. I'm looking foward to see Del Toro. Kuss, I'm also curios to see. I hold my opinion. He didn't have the lead anymore (due to his breakaway) or the cushion of his rivals were all his teammate. Now he starts just like anyone else who competes for GC. Opening stage, he was at the bottom of the rest of all his GC rivals. Not a good start to defend the title. But Vuelta just started.

Captain America really turned up the heat today. He was really trying to make up for what happened at the Olympics. Hopefully his teammates will pull through as well.
Rider start order: The teams were assigned starting positions. 22 teams, so Visma for example (as Sepp won last year) had positions 22, 44, 66, etc through 176 final spot. Each team then decided the riders for their starting spots.
So visma picked Wout to go last. I think Sepp should have gone last but that’s just me. 🤔🦋👍
Of course Visma may have liked the idea that Wout crosses the finish last and wins it. It didn’t happen but we all know it could have. 😜🦋💪
@@ChrisHornerCycling I think that's it. A team decision like this would include rider's input? I could see Sepp deferring final spot to Wout...actually better for Sepp than to have focus on him as the final rider losing time.

Brandon has about the same odds as Wout at winning LaVuelta. Then again look at Sepp Kuss from last year. All I am going to say is didn't read too much in a 12KM TT on such a mountainous La Vuelta.

Wise words, Brandon McNulty could be the UAE man for GC. Wouldn't that be great if he wore it all the way to Madrid?
With two sprint stages to start and Wout van Aert just 3 seconds behind chances are slim that he wares it all the way.
Kuss's win last year was a fluke , he is a good climber but not a time trial man and would never won if Roglic and Vingegaard weren't told to let him win, Kruiswijk clearly started with no GC intentions at all, but Uijtdebroeks did a decent job and should be considerd Visma's main man. As a bonus Visma shouldn't have to do that much work unless Van Aert wants a win and the leaders jersey in the first stages.
Freaking pogacar!! I really wanted to see him do this. Once in a lifetime chance.
I really think UAE want to give McNulty a chance at a major GC challenge.... With Roglic, WVA, Kuss, Yates and McNulty never count out Carapaz, Almeida and one of my favorites ..Vlasov. (if Roglic falls down) So many good climbers... it should be a phenomenal Vuelta.... Cat and Mouse tomorrow. My big concern is seeing if UAE can keep everything together and work out a solid strategy. Congrats McNulty on a fantastic ITT... VERY pleasant surprise.!!!!

Steven Kruiswijk isn't riding for GC, he's just a domestique, so I don't see time as relevant. Kuss could have better but he's only 30-40s behind the GC favourites which he will need to do in the mountains but I think we knew this beforehand and his form in the Tour de Burgos shows be does have some form. Whether it's enough to claw enough time who knows. It will be interesting if Visma can use van Aert to get others to chase with the rest of Visma getting a free ride before going on the attack once other teams have done all the work all day long, with the possibility of Wout going for the GC? I'm not saying this is even possible, I'm not sure he's the same rider, in the same shape as he was a few years ago but I think this is what Vodka need now. Otherwise I've always thought the van Aert, even though I respect him and love his style of racing, is just taking resources away from the GC contender which you just can't get away these days with teams like UAE and Red Bull Bora being so stacked.
Hmmm.. I don't see Wout goes for GC. The 3rd week is hard. And the amount of climbing is more than the Giro or Tour. Too hard for Wout. Besides, Wout doesn't want to come out The Vuelta over exerted. His target is WC. V-LAB said that Wout doesn't even slotted to be Kuss domestique. He has the free role to chase stages. I think he is going to try to win as many as stages. Come the mountain, you'll see he'll drop. Unless Kuss is in contention to win. .

@@n.heroep2786 I don't think he's got the fitness or form so don't really expect it, but as for the last week, sure there are some hard stages and a lot of elevation, more than the Tour or Giro, a lot aren't that steep there's just a lot of it and as you always get with the Vuelta sone short, sharp inclines. You could tease it though to force other teams to respond. If Wout is just there for time trials and sprints you have to focus a number of your team in helping him which you really need for your GC rider.

I wondered that as well. From what I heard during the broadcast, riders got to pick when they started because of the possibility of deteriorating conditions (wind) as the day went on.

Well roglic has a fx vertebrae and underwent an extracted tooth only the day before vuelta ; still he looked reasonable given limited recovery after tdf crash out. Wva in a 9 min interview is going for stage wins and half heartedly said he would support kuss when he could.
Of the gc guys almeida looked the best. Kuss will not win. No fluke breakaway and he looked mediocre in classica san Sebastian race just last week . Glad they didn't trash pogacar since 3 grand tours by kuss last year has wrecked his health and training all year

Pogi should have gone for the triple. He will regret it one day, I think. When he looks back in decade or so and realizes he only had one realistic opportunity to do it, and he walked away from a feat no other cyclist has ever achieved.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that his logic for not going for the triple is that he's thinking of his teammates and not himself. Happy team, happy life.

It’s just that the parcours in Switzerland really suits him. Recently the courses have helped the powerful guys with big engines, like MVDP, Remco. This year there’s more climbing, so I guess he’s thinking that this year is his best chance of being World Champion.

Oh no Chris not you too, don’t fall in to the fallacy of “let’s ride for mcnullty now” you know, I know even your neighbors mom knows mcnullty has NEVER been consistent good especially in the mountains EVER he ALWAYS has a bad day and Cracks even in 1 week WT races and struggles on long climbs and the top 5 GC field is to close in how good they are to sacrifice even 30sec for Adam or Almeida in GC for a bad experiment which will end in disaster

He was having a good season until COVID. KOM at Basque Country, and since has won Burgos. He’s an out and out climber, and they don’t win often.
