@Trimat - Simple problem called reliability. The LC if properly maintained will do an excess of 1 000 000km relatively trouble free with hard driving included. Let's how the other others stack up?
@@louvendran7273 Problem for the LC you mean? The Y62 has been on the market in Aus since 2013, and the world market since 2010. Apart from a timing chain issue on series one, there have been no systemic reliability issues with them. They're pretty much bullet proof. The same cannot be said for the LC200. Apart from the well known dusting issue from the dodgy air cleaner all modern diesels have issues with all the anti-pollution they're covered in, as well as being extremely vulnerable to sub-standard fuel. Toyota is still trading on a reputation built on the 80 and 100 series. Sadly the 200 series is not in the same class, it's just too complicated to reach high mileages without costing it's owner a small fortune in repair's.
Got to love the comments about the interior, one is for the city (Patrol), and the other is better for the bush (LC). The leather scratches and can be hard to clean etc. The cloth is a lot easier to get out the mud etc. Then you have the Crawl mode, which you didn't give it any justice or even look at. Go use it, its not for driving normally, but when bogged in sand or mud, or when climbing gravel it is amazing as hell. Just an extra system to help. While we are looking at the Prado (Toyota person here), I will say the Patrol's are, and always will be an equal weapon as the LC are.
In what world is cloth easier to get mud out compared to leather....... wipe vs full shampoo yea easy as lmao why did the base cruisers come out with vinyl seat apart from burning your legs through summer ease of maintenance and longevity
You’re right, the styling and interior are from 3 generations ago and it’ll be used for another 3. Toyota and Nissan have fallen asleep at the wheel. Who does wood grain for god sake?!?
A follow up video would be great, discussing running costs (real world fuel consumption, service costs, changing injectors vs spark plugs etc) over a 5 year or say 200k km distance, plus resale, insurance and full towung specs. Cheers!
Ah yes that toyota reputation of reliability comes in, but that was built on the 80/105 series and 70 series. Since then they are no more reliable than any other car with I'd say even less reliability with the 200 against the y62. The y62 has no major issue known unlike the 200 (injectors, airbox leaks, fuel level sensor shutting vehicle down randomly, egr+dpf issues aswell just to name a few)
I live in France and worked in an insurance cpy for 8 years, as a technical breakdown phone operator. I only had 1call for a LC200 breakdown, an ultra-rare vehicule here, but the guy had to replace the whole injector line, and the quote was 10k€ 😑.
I worked in extended warranty in the middle east where these vehicles are dime a dozen and the y62 Patrol engine was pretty complex and had a good number of warranty claims. There were fine nozzles to get oil within the cylinder which would not work well with the wrong kind of oil. Noise from engine requiring engine rebuilds also occured. This was 5 years back though
@@jean-louishamid5285 we couldn't really ascertain if it was due to faulty oil as dealers never agreed to such accusations and as warranty provider we did not have the bandwidth to test the oil. Tiny metal particles were found in oil which showed internal failure.
Almost bought the patrol. But last minute bought the Landcruiser and was the best choice. Especially with gvm upgrades and boat loading weights on the roof, if your loading up weight the 200 is easier to modify. Plus the diesel life span is much longer and will hold its value better here in Australia. Fuel and refuelling is safer. My investment was for over 10 years. If your buying a pavement princess go the patrol.
62 has 4.1 gvm upgrade available( 200 just lost its higher gvm ) 62 has more load rating, roof is rated to 200kgs (the 100 is a myth) just as many aftermarket accessories available for the 62, airbox seals in the 62 (doesn't let dust in) Petrol cheaper then diesel currently, petrol is available everywhere Diesel is, resale is actually favouring the Y62 in dollar per dollar... but enjoy your 200, but please adjust your reasons for buying.
@@WheelingWebberthe Nissan website is saying 100kg well 90kg with the legs and 65kg with the platform style rack . Link me the spec sheet that says 200kg

@@WheelingWebber Also onto fuel. All minesites and farms run diesel only, 9 out of 10 travelers, traveling remote will be a diesel 4x4. The chances of getting diesel over petrol from north wa to north QLD is far more likely. The same applies to parts.
@@missjessicalawrence 3 reasons for that. One is lack of good petrol out country (alot of places don't even have it) along with prices of it or if on cattle stations or mines the machines/tractors use diesel so it's easier to just tank in 1000's of litres in at once rather than get a separate batch of petrol. Also toyota has incredible fleet/business deals so they can be cheaper if bought in bulk. Then you've got that toyota reputation of reliability, but that was built on the 80/105 series and 70 series. Since then they are no more reliable than any other car with I'd say even less reliability with the 200 against the y62. Diesels seem overly expensive on maintenance to me - it's not fair for the owner. The landcruiser is very good but I find the center dash is disjointed design and doesn't match anything.
Looking at the comment section, it seems like a lot of people in the USA and AU have to pay way too much for the LC. It's sad really. Just having to pay around 25 grand on tax is a shame, because without that price bump, the LC is the prime choice for most of us. Edit: I do believe that the LC desperately needs a new generation.
@@MadDan78 Nah mate, sorry. The dealer network, availability for spare parts and the reliability of the LC in general is worth the price. I've yet to see an LC, old or modern, that has broken down on its own

The petrol engine is a carry over from 100 series with the same 5 speed auto and 230kw. The lx 570 has the six speed auto and 270kw, still lacking to the patrol and a much higher price.
my dad is a mechanic and the truth is, landcruisers are better all the way. patrols are known to break down very commonly and with the landcruiser there are a lot of choices. you've got the fj40, the 60 series, the 80 series, the 100 series and the 200. you've got the 79 series too. gq's are okay, but they rust easily. nissan had the same patrol shape for years and years. landcruisers are built to last. there are loads of 80 series landcruisers still on the road because they last.
Land Cruiser any day of the week. With Toyota you get reliability, a strong Diesel engine which is a lot better off-road and you know that it will get you home in one piece. Toyota > Nissan.
Abhishek Shrestha its better to move a little closer to the steering wheel when offroading. More control of the steering and you can move around better to see out the windows and use various vehicle controls
If you do a test like this you have to talk about re-sale value.! The 200 Series has the best re-sale value of any vehicle I know of. When it comes to sell your vehicle you will get $80k with KM's under 100k. Also if you go off road the 200 series has far more range. Petrol Vehicles don't offer that. Off course it depends on what you are using the vehicle for.
You never think of a vehicle as resale, that’s like an investment, you buy a house if you want resale and not a car. For a car you buy the best value for money for your leisure and recreation not purchase what you don’t like because of resale. That’s scruge mcduck mindset.
Ernest Agyemang... thanks for your thought. Ask Scotty Kilmer who has worked on cars for 53 years, what he thinks about Toyota. Again, thanks for your way of thinking
Patrol has a transfer case, if it's engaged then it's locked. This can be annoying when my toddler climbs through the car and puts it into 4H and I discover my steering sucks next time I leave the driveway. Landcruiser uses a Torsen centre diff so it mechanically locks whenever there is slip. I'm 6'7" and I only fit in the patrol, cruiser is too small inside the cabin.
The comment about the older dash setup and tech in the patrol warrants the comment; the vehicles offered overseas are up to date spec. The touch screen is larger and more modern and it is criminal that Nissan refuses to treat their Australian customers as they do their overseas clients. Your comment of dated dash followed by BUT is nothing more than a cop out. I sent an email to Nissan when the patrol was reintroduced into Australia, they rang me and kept implying that "they listen to their customers". I asked if that is the case, why does the Australian version have a dash set up and tech 5 years old and not the same as i.e. the UAE. She repeated that, they listen to their customers. When I repeated the question, she hung up. In 1979 when a manufacturer was testing a soon to be released large 4x4 here, I asked the techs and their managers why the same vehicle offered in North America and Europe was so much better finished and appointed than the one to be offered here? They told me, Australians don't question and will buy whatever we want to give them. Seems nothing has changed. We're still given the plastic, outdated dregs, while the rest if the world gets the cream. What a pity auto journalists aren't screaming from the rooftops about such things. Instead they lick boots in case their free rides are taken away.
I'd rather have a 30k LC or Patrol that I could go Bush bashing in rather than an 100k version were I have to go explain to the wife why the bumpers hanging off and the sides are all scraped. Leave these two in the Eastern subs
Great reporting by CarAdvice experts. I would have to agree with them that the Nissan Patrol in a clear winner, both in terms of features and value. Welcome back Patrol.

If you buy a Land Cruiser, it can be used for three generations
You’re right, the styling and interior are from 3 generations ago and it’ll be used for another 3. Toyota and Nissan have fallen asleep at the wheel. Who does wood grain for god sake?!?
I've my Dad's 1980 Nissan Patrol, still enjoying it and even my kid loves it

A follow up video would be great, discussing running costs (real world fuel consumption, service costs, changing injectors vs spark plugs etc) over a 5 year or say 200k km distance, plus resale, insurance and full towung specs. Cheers!
Reliability wise nothing can beat the LC !
Well, sorry but the patrol just beat you LC😎
Exactly, anybody that thinks Renault can provide any kind of reliability needs to learn how to read
Why Australia still getting the old interior in the Nissan Y62 ?
I think they did it just to put price down a little bit more. To make people chose Patrol against LC200
@@dmitrypiotrovskiy2518 Nope, waiting for the series 6 to come out in 2022 to keep it alive for a little bit longer
@@roshangomez Very interesting! Do you know whether the noisy ones had the wrong oil or would you consider it a different problem altogether?
@@jean-louishamid5285 we couldn't really ascertain if it was due to faulty oil as dealers never agreed to such accusations and as warranty provider we did not have the bandwidth to test the oil. Tiny metal particles were found in oil which showed internal failure.
@@roshangomez I guess using premium oil is a must no matter what with such a complex engine.
Finally Caradvice delivers a big hit again. Thank You for the awesome video
@@WheelingWebber Also there is simply not the same amount equipment out there for the y62. that's nonsense. Look at bull bars. No where near the same companies making y62 gear over the 200. Like who does scrub bars? Yes aftermarket for the y62 has grown. But still not even close.
@@WheelingWebber Also onto fuel. All minesites and farms run diesel only, 9 out of 10 travelers, traveling remote will be a diesel 4x4. The chances of getting diesel over petrol from north wa to north QLD is far more likely. The same applies to parts.
@@donpaterson2397 mate are you living in a cave! Name two things avail for a 200 that;s not avail for a 62?
I prefer the land cruiser 70 series over these, less expensive and reliable
Lots of hate for the LC, surprising to see these comments
City Boys, go outback or anywhere rural in Australia, cattle stations etc theres only Toyota and cruisers. Theres a reason for that.
Toyota shouldn't take credit for their cars, they should take credit for their ability to brainwash the public.

Nissan Patrol is my favorite!
I've owned 3 petrol patrols.
They are cheaper to buy and maintain. They go forever (over 515,000 klm before mine was stolen) and go anywhere including the Kimberley, Cape and Gulf.
Edit: I do believe that the LC desperately needs a new generation.
even at the same price point... 62 is much better value
@@MadDan78 Nah mate, sorry. The dealer network, availability for spare parts and the reliability of the LC in general is worth the price. I've yet to see an LC, old or modern, that has broken down on its own
@@WrektSK There is a reason Toyota need to have spare parts and it's cause they let you down. I have owned many Cruisers and I went from a 105 series which was an awesome vehicle to a LC200 and it was garbage. So many issues I just had to get rid of it after 110,000ks before I was up for injectors at $2000/injector. Busted my first CV at 14,000ks on the Tele Track and had to arrange a CV from Sydney (only 2 in Australia at the time) to be sent up to Cairns. Toyota didn't cover anything as I was running ARB suspension. I could write a book on the other issues I had with the Cruiser from ABS sensors, wiper bottle splitting, dust getting in the cabin, dust getting past the air filter, constant fuel filter issues etc. etc.
@@aussieoffroadnut1109 Our experiences differ with Toyota then. That's all I can say.
@@WrektSK Well I have! Mate's died on the Tanami Track. Cost a bundle for a tilt tray. His next one shit itself in the middle of the Simpson Desert in 2018 (computer died). Then the inlet manifold gunged up and it lost power. A fool and his money are easily parted! When is the public gunna wake up to itself - Toyotas are just as bad/good as all the other brands on the Australian market.
Crawl control is good to unstuck yourself in sands or in muds. In short, do not need it unless it is really challenging road
Diesel here in the Philippines because diesel is almost half the cost of petrol here
In my country ,if we can afford these, we dont care about diesel petrol price.
I can't make decision, i love them both. If nissan patrol had diesel i would by him. I love overlanding on my toyota fortuner but this days I've got third son and my fortuner has become a little bit less roomy for my family. Help me deside what to take. I am also thinking about patrol with 4.0 engine.
In the long run probably better buying a petrol, it would be cheaper to replace the engine then it is to fix a diesel
Nissan Patrol? More like...Nissan Petrol!
if have that land cruiser ...you can come back and do that same after 30 years.
Don’t even have to wait 30 years… as soon as that Nissan warranty is over that patrol will be shit… and even during the warranty the patrol fucks up
I ended up with a new Prado last year after going to the dealer intending to buy a LC200. Whole and solely because the price of entry for what you get inside a Landcruiser at the same spec and features as the Prado we got is BULLSHIT ridiculous for the money!!
And the current Prado is as big as an 80series anyway.
Prado makes more sense that a 200, pitty they dont want to fit a better suited engine to the prado, they feel a little underpowered.
I agree the GXL 200 interior looks like it's from 1988.
I live in the US, and been in the 2020 Land Cruiser, the AU is not a good value. But, the US has a bigger screen, better safety systems, and is just better. Yet we do not get a diesel.
Thad land cruiser it's the cheapest version, but land cruiser it is the best overall
Own both, have spent a fortune on the 200 series, Our close to stock Y62 is still better offroad, better towing, and they use around the same amount of fuel,
Why am I finding this hard to believe.
Can you elaborate what fortune you spent on the LC200?

Nissan Patrol nice ! Great price !
Hey Mate, great comparison.. The LC200 also have a 5.7lt Petrol VX engine sold in middle east (no diesel engine sold there) .. As fitted Lx570. Thanks
The petrol engine is a carry over from 100 series with the same 5 speed auto and 230kw. The lx 570 has the six speed auto and 270kw, still lacking to the patrol and a much higher price.
Land Cruiser is the King of off road not even ford or other brands can come close..
Hi, so what's your conclusion the y62 is better car and costs less? But you don't want to say its better than the landcruiser?
2020 Nissan patrol interior is all new in UAE but in Aust they decided to keep the old n outdated, almost from 80s.
my dad is a mechanic and the truth is, landcruisers are better all the way. patrols are known to break down very commonly and with the landcruiser there are a lot of choices. you've got the fj40, the 60 series, the 80 series, the 100 series and the 200. you've got the 79 series too. gq's are okay, but they rust easily. nissan had the same patrol shape for years and years. landcruisers are built to last. there are loads of 80 series landcruisers still on the road because they last.
Where did you film this video
Superb video , its very interesting
Land Cruiser any day of the week. With Toyota you get reliability, a strong Diesel engine which is a lot better off-road and you know that it will get you home in one piece.
Toyota > Nissan.
I think Sam's driving position is abit near the steering wheel.
Abhishek Shrestha its better to move a little closer to the steering wheel when offroading. More control of the steering and you can move around better to see out the windows and use various vehicle controls
Very 2 great beasts.
$20,000 price difference!
Toyota buyers have lost their minds.
Not when they go to sell them. Check out what a 10 year old cruiser is worth. Then compare a Mercedes to a land cruiser after 10 years of resale
That's is what the world entertain wen a brand is hyped too much
That's why I don't like to follow the crowd
Andrew1974 patrol holds its value as well as the cruiser, yes it might be $20k less at resale but you paid $20k less in the first place 🤷🏼♂️
What models are u using ?

Nissan for me too
How about the new look new engine and new technology of fortuner legender?
I think the Patrol is the one for me
