    I love my Dell Optiplex 3050 Micro with Batocera. Going to use it to introduce my daughter and nephew to NES through GameCube games as they get older.

      That's awesome. I've been rockin a lot of GameCube myself lately 🙂. It's great that you're passing it along, definitely a lot of amazing games for these older systems.

    thanmk you for having like the only video showing 8100t emulation performace without a gpu on just the 3060. i have one coming in the mail today and i was starting to get worried it might not do what i thought it would. Fears Assuaged TY Much

    spoiler: ocarina of time
    The game runs really good on batocera, but you will notice that later into the game there is a item that shows hidden paths or enemies. They might not get rendered. I tried to finish the game without a walkthrough guide but failed. I didn't expect that game to be that hard. Appreciate your mapping video on the Switch Co. Controller

      Yeah there are definitely some difficult parts of that game. I had serious trouble with the Water Temple and had to consult a walkthrough. Awesome game overall though. And glad I could help with the controller mapping, thanks for watching. 🙂

      I also had problems with the water temple especially with the chest that gets revealed when rising the water level to the second stage. finally had to look up the solution. I agree the game is really good, especially the graphic.

    I have a 3050, and it's amazing, there are even some real PS3 games that will run fine, examples: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Mayhem 3D. You can run anything on WII U too, even BOTW at 30 fps. I recommend 16 GB of ram if you wanna try more demanding stuff. The difference in performance between 8GB and 16GB is big. More than 16GB is waste of money, I have 24GB, and make no difference over 16GB. At that point you're limited by the CPU / GPU.

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  Год назад

      Nice. I will have to try it with 16GB. I've also been wanting to throw an m.2 drive in there as well. Not totally sure how it will affect performance over the 2.5" SSD when it comes to emulation, but couldn't hurt.

    The small form factor is the selling point, a lot of WAF in the living room. Think a hd is just good enough for batocera, ssd is kinda wasted. Love this Dells. I ordered a 3020 with an i3 4160 with 3,6 GHz. Really excited what that processor has to offer in comparison to a pentium. Btw, 50 Euros. I have an old HD7750 low profile and will test how this runs cemu.

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  2 года назад +2

      Nice, the Prodesk 600 G1 I went over in an earlier vid has that processor, and it does really well. I've been using it as my primary system for emulation. Haven't tried it with cemu, but it's been doing gamecube and ps2 no problem. And that's just with integrated graphics. Think you will be cruising if you drop a 7750 on top of that.

      Not for me. I want at least 1 3.5" hard drive slot so I can add a 6tb or more drive.

      SSD does make a difference if you are running more demanding games, and it's capable of some. I have a Optiplex 3050 running batocera. I installed Batman Arkham City, running over wine. It was installed on a hd at first and it had a lot of microfreezing. After I transfered the files to an ssd, the game runs smoothly.

    Factor in Kodi which is built into Batocera and the UHD 630 in the 7th gen and better Intel iGPU's which can handle 4k x265 without breaking a sweat and you get a great HTPC for a projector.

    I got a 3050 with a i3 7100t that came with a sata ssd and 8 gigs of ram for $80 to replace my androidbox that died. Highly recomend these over androidboxes. It's less than half the price of a shield and gaming wise the performance is better than any androidbox you can get. I mean the shield can barely handle the more demanding psp games let alone any ps2 game.

    i like this video, i also use an mini for retro emu, I use a optiplex 3040 with the i5 6500t 8gbram, but mine didnt come with an m.2 ( just a 256gb SSD lol.. awesome cover !!!

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  Год назад +1

      Heck yeah, the 3040 seems like it would be pretty solid emulation-wise. I run stuff off a 2.5" SSD as well on another machine, usually does the trick. And thank you, I appreciate the comment!

    I have a Lenovo m73 mini, which is an older ddr3 model but similar to what you got there. The sweet spot is definitely PSP at 2x resolution. Gamecube is playable at 1x native but I seriously suggest a gpu build if your going after next gen emulation.

      🙂There is a lot of pool noodle lore on this channel. But it's actually a different one. The shipping noodle was cut into pieces, then the pieces were taped around the device. Which, I have to say, actually seemed to work pretty well.

    What’s your thoughts on the 7040 found one locally and it’s cheaper than the 3060. Just wondering what gen processor it has

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  Год назад +1

      The 7040 holds a 6th gen processor. I've used the X040 series standard size desktops, and they are pretty legit. The mini uses the "t" variation of the processor with reduced power, but I think they would still perform pretty well. Without having used it I couldn't say absolutely what kind of performance you will get, but the specs on the 7040 are still much better than any of the prebuilt systems you see on amazon for like $120. Also upgrades like additional RAM, or adding an SSD aren't terribly expensive or difficult if you have to do them, and it might already have them. If I had to bet, I would say it probably would make a solid emulator. Sounds like you have a pretty good find on your hands 🙂

    • @pokesmitty2592
      @pokesmitty2592 Год назад

      Awesome yeah it has an i55600T was just wondering if it would be comparable to the 3060

      @@pokesmitty2592 Heck yeah. Not a bad processor at all. And it's not quite to the same level as the 3060, but I imagine it will be pretty close. Thanks for watching by the way!

    Two questions:
    1) Are you just using Emulation Station on Windows ?
    2) So what's the deal with the pool noodle? :)

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  Год назад +3

      I just flashed Batocera to an SSD, and run everything off that. So not on Windows, just its own independent operating system. And the pool noodle... primarily exists for whacking uncooperative machines 😂
