Two down-on-their-luck cowboys were sitting on the boardwalk outside the general store begging for money.
"Please, ma'am, could you spare a dime or two? We ain't got no money for food." one said as a lady passed by. She glanced at the saloon across the street.
"How do I know you won't just go over to the saloon and drink and gamble it away?" she asked.
"Oh, no, ma'am," the other cowboy spoke up. "We wouldn't do that. We gots gamblin' money."
🤣🤣
Airplanes in the old west! We can do that! Lol.
Cutting the cards by literally cutting the deck with a knife definitely reminds me of that joke from the Bugs Bunny cartoon featuring Yosemite Sam.
Right?
Great video, as usual, Santee!
I taught myself how to play Faro, and it's a very interesting game. But when Doc Holiday says "The odds are all on the house" in Tombstone, he was wrong. Faro was as close to an even money game as there ever was, which is why it's no longer played. The last Faro table in Las Vegas closed in 1975, and in Reno in 1985.
The fact that some dealers made a lot of money, including Wyatt Earp, was for two reasons; they ran a crooked table, and the players were drunk and therefore stupid. The latter still applies in casinos today!
I learned a thing or two about it doing a movie shoot where we sat at a Faro table. Cool stuff.
I like chips, Dad. Very tasty. especially the ones with Ranch flavoring.
Wrong chips, little dude.
You're funneeeeeh
great video.and this is why i don't gamble.i'm stingy on ammo,and i'm alergic to lead.especialy when it's goin' a few hundred feet a second.
on Wild West Tech years ago they had a feature on how gambling in New Mexico paid for the US troops to occupy the area during the war
Maria Gertrudis Barcelo saved the US Army in New Mexico, from what it reads, she’s an interesting character all unto herself
Thanks for the extra info.
My great grandma used to play a mean game of poker. She was average, but on more than one occasion she was good. She also, used to play pool. Once in a while she would shoot pool, with one of her brothers. She played at the casino and with a club, that was made up of members of the local catholic church. She taught me a bit, with candy and taught me about poker.
Her game was five card poker, that or Texas Hold'em.
God rest her soul, she is probably playing card with the saints.
That's a great memory.
In my research I read about a man named Johnny Tyler from Tombstone, who led a gambling gang called the Sloopers, however my research never really explained what a "gambling gang" was. In my mind it's a group of cheaters, but based on what Ive read, idk how true that assumption is.
I will do one on Soapy Smith one day. He was one of the greatest card sharps in the game.
Hey Santee, today I won a deck of cards from around the mid 1800s for 48 dollars at an auction. Currently I'm clearing the books of one of my bookshelves to replace it with relics from the 1800s and the cards will probably be pretty nice to add to my collection.
That is awesome!
I actually got to go on a casino boat in Louisiana once..I was too young to gamble sadly but they had a really good arcade for the kids. My maternal grandmother's sister used to live near New Orleans and when me, my grandma, and another aunt of mine went to visit her, my gambling loving aunt (the one that drove us there) of course wanted to hit up a casino boat. As for the famous gamblers? My grandma was a big fan of Doc Holiday in the Tombstone movie. One of these days I might have to see about getting back over to there or somewhere that does river boats with gambling and give it a try myself..not too much though, unlike my dearly departed aunt (the one who went with us) I'm pretty much like my grandma or mother..I set a limit and only spend that much, so anything I win is good but if I lose then I've only lost that 1 or 200 bucks I designated for gambling.
I'd like to get on some of those riverboats, too.
Love your intro. Rest of the video as well.
Fan-Tan Was Also A Popular Game Brought Over By The Chinese Who I Dont Think Get Enough Respect For All The Hard Work That Helped Build This Country
Yes
5 aces? Now that's a rare hand and one that's even rarer in a _friendly_ game.
Good episode. I played a lot of poker in my younger days. The Western gamblers always fascinated me; esecially since many who were cheats would get addicted to games like faro where the house had all the advantage. I see Dan is cutting up again.
A poker player, eh, LF? Well, now...that is interesting. Dan is one sharp dude.
Never match wits with the scourge of Tuscon.
HA!
Happy to see that Dirty Dan is Slowhand Dirty Dan and not his dangerous cousin, Quick Dirty Dan
Every Dirty Dan is a dangerous one.
Nicely done. "I can do that!" ha ha ha ha ha ha
Hahaha... I love the shooting! And very informative. Cool! Oh my Dino is even in this video. Cool!
We love T-Rex' here. Subbed ya!
Awesome as always! I’m not sure I can even think about the old west without thinking of gambling.
Thanks Santee - loved it. You definitely don't want to deal a dirty hand to Dirty Dan.
Hey Santee happy Saturday another brilliant and informative episode!!👍👍
Thanks, Martina!
Horse racing was common in the old west.
There were times of peace when the Cowboys and the Indians
had horse races. They bet hard, so that at the end of the races
there were Indians dressed as cowboys and cowboys dressed
as Indians.
Great Show !!!!!!!
🤠
Only 1 dislike after almost a year. This is more proof you make great videos. Keep em coming
Thank you!
Back to support and smash the likeee button wouldn’t like to get caught cheating in those days lol thanks for sharing our awesome friend
Thank you!
Gold chains on the tiger. LOL. You guys are great.
Fun as always.😁
legit sounds like me in red dead redemption 2 xD i lose a game of poker? eh put on my mask and start shootin :P xD
Your videos are very interesting 👍🏽👏🏽
For those who didn't catch the name, like myself. He says Lottie Deno. In the late 1800s possibly the most famous poker player in Texas.
Poker Alice is also interesting to look up.
These women in gambling establishments should be feared!
Liked how in the end Dirty Dan chops of Black jacks thumbs off and then apart from the comment by Santee calling Blackjack all thumbs he places his hand over them like if they didnt matter, poor Black jack, a thumbs up to you bro( lol)
It's a rough crowd.
I love the game of faro! I learned to play from Pico pistolero! Great guy! I remember I was playing so much that I was starting to get bored so I bet all my chips and ended up winning triple LOL
Very cool!
Gotta hand it to you Santee, one of the funnier ones.
I don't laugh out loud too often
Love the new look (in the beginning), tell Dan he needs practice he left some fingers on that hand😂🤪👍🏼🤠
I've been learning more here than Grade School & High School. I might learned more if I stayed awake in HS. It wasn't as exciting.as these videos though. Another Great one. See you next Sat.
Have you done one on Old West "Slang" ? "Jayhawk" "Mossback Cattle" or a "nice piece of calico"? There are so many more.. I know, but Cattle Ranching is in my blood
We did one on words & wisdom here: ruclips.net/video/2mHQ3eHg-dY/видео.html
But there's so much to cover.
Hello friend. Big thumbs up. Ben awhile seance I've played any poker. Thanks for sharing poker in the old West. Belle.
Another great video. You and Dirty Dan are my heroes.
Great video!
Thank you!
Another fun video my friend! Thanks for making it. Like 114!
Much appreciated!
Greetings from Ireland. How about a video on aeroplane's of the old west.
your vlogs make me smile evertime i watch them. and it must take you ages to make them this good.
The person who disliked is a dirty rotten card cheat
Yes! Ha!
On crazy fact of the roulette wheel...if you take each number on the board and add them up it's 666,
WHOAH! I never knew that. Think it was planned? Sheesh....spooky.
Arizona Ghostriders not sure if planned but it is a lil spooky
Hey Santee. I'm a fairly new subscriber and don't think I've seen all of your great videos yet, so if you haven't already done one......................How about a video on "refrigeration" in the old west.........or at least how meats and such were kept as fresh as possible?
Friendly huh? Hahaha Love the video! I do enjoy gambling a touch!
I REALLY want to play Faro! It looks cool, but no casino has it. Vegas, nope. Native American ones, nope. Reno? NOPE.
:'(
If you go to a Civil War event or Old West event, you can find guys who bring their own tables to do it.
Is there? I'll have to download it! Thanks, Cindy.
I've seen it at Old West and Civil War events...if that ever comes up in your neck o' the woods.
I actually live in Phoenix so it shouldn't be hard to find an Old West re-enactment event!
I just, honestly, never thought if looking there. Lol
The Picacho Peak Civil War reenactment usually has a guy.
Hahahahahahahah LOL
Always interesting to watch
Thanks fellas
Love it!
So glad!
Happy Saturday. Another great episode.👍
Thanks, Uncle Dan!
Shootin' with Uncle Dan dang! Uncle Dan u sir KNOW EVERYBODY!!!!!!
Hey Santee and everybody great videos, as always. Santee could you do a video either completely on roping cuffs, or a video on Buckskin gauntlets and other kinds of leather gauntlets they used to wear in the old west. Thanks I always love your videos, also I'll see ya on down the trail... Morgan T.
Will do, Morgan! Thanks.
Also Santee one more question, I left this on a way older video, but then I realized its in this video as well. The red solid/ white striped long sleeved banded collar shirt that you're wearing right at the start of the video, I was really wondering... where'd you get that shirt at. I've been watching your videos and see you wearing it from time to time, but this time I just couldn't help but ask. Because back in April, I already told you I was getting an pair of old frontier pants, and wah-maker brown-leather braces. I've had them now for almost 2 full months and yet I'm still looking for the perfect shirt to go with them, and when I saw your red solid/ white striped long-sleeved shirt I knew that was the perfect one. Could you please give me a link to the place in which you purchased it, if not could you and I e-mail each other back and forth, so I can find out where you got that awesome shirt. Thanks very much. I always love your videos, and have been watching them since my birthday in January when RUclips recommended them to me, and I've been with you since 1,000 subs, and I really cannot believe why you guys do not have more now that your channel is getting better, and better each and every week I watch! I'll look forward to hearing from you, Sincerely, Morgan T.
Cool!
Thank You!
@@ArizonaGhostriders Just found out this channel while randomly scrolling videos about wild west movie/history, interesting. 👍
Right up my alley! I was a pit boss for a bit. You're right about the ups and downs of gambling. I've seen it all. Love the shoot out over cheating. Dirty Dan "don't roll your eyes at me" LOL
Great video dear friend!
Thank you!
Faro is also a city in portugal
Interesting.
Good job! 👍👍👍👍
When he put his hand down I saw that knife coming
Yup
good stuff as always guys
Another great video
Love it. Question: Were their any popular dice games in the old west. The Japanese had a dice game where you bet odd or even on the dice that were thrown from a cup. Just wondering if there was a game similar to that over here in the old west. Appreciate y’all’s channel.
There were a number of them, but Hazard and early versions of Craps were prevalent.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Thank you sir, appreciated. Drafting a story about a blind swordsman in the old west. Poker doesn’t work for a blind man. But he could maybe make a living playing dice. Or a roulette wheel. Weighing my options.
Not a topic for me still good to learn!
Okay so for the cowboy away from the saloon with friends, where would they store the cards? Or how would they carry them around in their things?
They will fit in a pocket, or saddlebags, bedroll, etc.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Sweet! Thanks for answering so fast, and answering. The good ol’ internet didn’t answer me so I came here. I got a deck of cards accurate to the time and they didn’t have a box so it made me wonder..
GOOD morning Santee. Where did you get your film and voice over talent? You did a top notch job on this gambling video. I like Roulette...just hard to find in California.
3:17 - MEDIC!!! :P
LOL

I just finished it! Today's video!
Nice vid santee
Which form of poker was more popular
Five-Card.
Did they play billiards or pool in the old west ?
Billiards, definitely. Pool, or a version of 15-ball was played as well, it seems.
Arizona Ghostriders thanks partner
👍👍👍🤠
🤠
Where can I buy that playing cards you used in the video? The samuel hart faro cards

My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Another great episode, I would wager! 💰
Thumbs up!
Hey, this is great! What part of Arizona are you guys from?
Could you do a video on entertainment in the old west
Yes! It's on the list!
Arizona Ghostriders awesome I also think a video of laws in the old west would be cool
Yep!
Arizona Ghostriders great and thanks for the subscription!
Cool but i have a ? Where did the deadmans hand come from
Well, the rumor is that Aces & Eights is the hand Wild Bill Hickok had when he was assassinated in the #10 Saloon in Deadwood. I'm not sure that is made up or not, but it is the legend.
That's what I always heard, but specifically, it was black aces and eights.
LOL, He was all thumbs anyways
👍🏼👍🏼🤠🤠
🤠
Any videos on urban legends like skinwalkers?
Were there more skill based cardgames in the old west?
poker was a skilled game
I bet that hurt
You want that knife in your collection? I'll clean the blood off.
Where there any other games, card or otherwise, they played in the old west or was it really all gambling?
Nope, they played checkers, chess, and assorted other games. I'll do a video on it.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Great! Looking forward to it.
did they play black jack ?
Appears so!
hey AG, i'm trying to create a small collection of playing card decks from the wild west era, can you recommend some decks i can collect?
The Hart's "Pharo Deck" is a good one.
@@ArizonaGhostriders got two of them. what else?
@@lifetimesofjcm8582 Saw a bunch here: playingcarddecks.com/collections/vintage
