All of the stitching on the shaft also kept and added strength to the shaft to keep it from sagging prematurely
🤠
The real purpose of the pointed toe is to stomp bugs in tight corners. That's why the are called CBKs (Corner Bug Killers).
If this is true, it’s pretty smart. Wonder if it would’ve hurt your feet though
The pointed toe didn't come around until the 1920s or so I've read and was a movie invention. Around here we call them roach killers but they were to help get the foot in stirrups and help it come out if thrown. Or so I've read and seen on other channels.
Didn't realize the extension on the heal was for spurs. Thanks
When y'all pick up a tidbit of knowledge, it just makes my day! Thanks.
8Bit Chick'n ya they call it a spur lip or ledge they kept the spurs from falling down modern riding boots still have them
Had to give up my spurs-- they were putting holes in the sheets...
this is truly the coolest channel! It's obvious you put a lot of time into editing. and I still have a pair of cowboy boots I bought in NYC in 1987, with the pointed toe, fancy stitching, and I tucked my jeans INSIDE the boots. Living in New Jersey. That was my cowboy phase. I paaid $125 for the boots--30 years ago! There in my basement full of mold, but I can't part with them. They are like ancient artifacts to me. Thank you for this little history lesson👍
You are certainly welcome. I bought a pair of boots in NYC in '92. How funny! Two easterners buying western footwear in the Big Apple.
Boot were practical and worn by virtually everyone. Shoes were worn by Townies most of whom also had boots. Good video. A Victorian lady in the West often had walking shoes , house shoes and boots.
Thanks, Brian!
Harness boots - _minus the metal rings and straps that were added around the mid 20th century_ - are probably about truest 19th century style boot still widely and inexpensively available today.
Such a Great Show !!!!!
Thank You!
Wish these videos were longer and went more in depth. I love watching them.
Also love santees humour toward himself!
Thank you. I work a full time job and do research, filming, and editing. Simply no more time.
@@ArizonaGhostridersrespect to you! Don't think I'm complaining theyre too short. Think of it as a good steak that you want more of!
This channel is still my favorite! Great to see you guys growing so much! :D
Thank you, Piney!
Ive always worn Boots.
Tried several different brands and styles.
I like the square toed harness boot.
Mine in harsh conditions worn every day ( oiled every day in the winter with pig fat) last about a year and a half.
Then I re-heel them with industrial conveyor belt material.( Very tough stuff).
That's a cool idea with the conveyer belt!
I was expecting the dinosaur to walk off with ill-fitting boots!
LOL!
I just have to say your videos are so well done next level stuff. Great channel Santee and congrats to Dustin and Billy B
I really appreciate that, Douglas.
In 1862 the Fryer Boot Co. started business and I have a 1993 made Fryer Boot for motorcycle riding, they are square tipped.
Nice info.
The fact on the pointed boots blows my mind. Goes to show how impactful media is as the perception across westerns is that pointed boots were common across the time period.
One guy tried to argue the pointed toes, but they were more rounded than today's roach killers.
I always learn so much when i watch your videos! TFS!👍👍👍👍🌺🌺🌺🌺☺☺☺☺🎄🎄🎍🎍⛄⛄
I'm so pleased!
Lol kept hearing knocking in the video, and kept pausing thinking that someone was knocking on my door.
Think it's the bg music.
“Boots, we got alot of stuff on boots”, one of my favorite things I got alot of boots, 65+ (got to do a recount), love my boots (and hats, 70+) all kinds and colors, gattor (favorites), lizard, snake, armadillo, stingray, and more, call them my lill zoo. Name it and I got it and wear it. again great video. Thanks 👍🏻👢🤠😜
Dang...you got a collection!!!
Arizona Ghostriders just a few, don’t tell the wife, she thinks it’s a lot less,😜
LOL!
Threewolfs 45-70 If you ever make any videos on your boots please let me know. I think it would be interesting to see the boots, their looks and the stories of the boots.
And they say women have too many shoes.... LOL
You know you love coffee when someone can use it to lead you like a horse.
Your boot information is entertaining and educational! Very good!
Thank you, Anna.
Woohoo!! Thanks, guys!! And great video!
You're entirely welcome....uh...wait. The stuff is GONE. I mean....not where I put it. Dangit, Bill!
Congrats Dustin!! Very cool vid of the boots Santee. Love boots. I learned something. Thanks.
I'm glad, Bob!
You should try to do a complete, more in depth show about the goods found on the sunken steam boat. That would be interesting! I'd like to see that!!
I really want to go to that museum. Then I can give you all sorts of info.
Yeah I’ve been multiple times, it’s in downtown Kansas City.
I LOVE cowboy boots!!!! Great info.🤠🌵
🤠
I have cavalry boots. Need to get some spurs for them.
You can find 'em
I’m booted all up and ready to tackle this Saturday morning all because of AZGRiders stimulaten well booted show of exceptional quality, I recon! Thanks Fellers! Now for another CuppaJO and begin my thought process in order to think about what I need to do after another CuppaJO! Happy Trails Boys! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Have fun!
Betty Kunkel here.... I just discovered your channel and have been enjoying the videos. I live in Kansas City and appreciate you showing The Arabia Steamboat Museum. It truly is a step back in time to the year 1856 and is a "must see" if you you're visiting KC. Thanks for the great videos!
You're welcome. That museum is on my bucket list!
I've got a pair of Ariat Plano's, and they're all I need. Not to flashy but a nice pattern, square toe, and they get the job done
Good!
Factory boots? I just figured with all those cows they had running around, they made them themselves! And to think they had “Danna White” to entertain them as well... Incredible!😉
HA! Industry during that era was kicking into high gear.
there's an actual town in Texas named Justin. Whatcha think they did there? Sadly Justin's are now made in China.
I was just like "what does he have to do with the former owner of the UFC?"
Yeah.. Im an Idiot..
@@gulfrelay2249 sadly everything is made there unless you're okay with putting down some extra cash for US assembly, US materials, US design, or 100% US made
Santee next trip to KC I am planning to visit the steamboat i will see if I can shoot some video it is an awesome museum. I will be even better now that I am into reenactment and living history.
So great!!! Let me know how it is.
Congrats Dustin!!!
This is my favorite you tube channel I like how funny it is and the history in it is cool to keep it up
Thank you!
What they did not mention was that the Old Time Boots were made of four peices as opposed too six pieces on the modern day boot, the heel - sole and a two piece shaft, back and front.
Good info!
Very amazing video well done and I love listening to your videos as I am blind and I am a white cane long cane user
Congratulations Dustin!
May you tell us about trains and other methods of transportation in the Wild West?
If you were riding the Union Pacific they surely were charging to much for the ticket.
Absolutely.
Hey ArmyNorm! I’m normally in the most Comfortable Foot wear made! - my Airborne Ranger Boots! And Congrats Dustin! Use it wisely! And YOU TWO! Give me back my Hat! Darth Airborne Nobody 55’NYC
Industrial conveyor belt material from a cement plant. Its half an inch thick and the thicker layer of rubber faces down.
It is tough as nails.
Ive also reheeled my boots with 3-/4 in oak.
It lasted about nine months.
When you grow up on a farm and not much money for fancy new things , you learn to be inventive and industrious.
Thanks for the reply.
Wow!
I'm from El paso Texas, the boot capitol of the west.
Nice!
Best channel I’ve seen on RUclips . Nice job friend .
Appreciate that
Thank you for the information. Good stuff.
You're welcome.
Very nice guys
Interesting about the boots
Thanks!
Good entertaining and informative video. Thumbs Up. !
Got my boots years ago of a fella who got them from a flea market,20 bucks.
Nice buy!
Dad, did Batjac say "Puss 'n Boots"? That dude is cool.
You just like Antonio Banderas.
Awesome video thoroughly enjoyed I really need to get a pair of tall boots
They get upwards to $225. Some Civil War boots can come in less, though, and have a lower heel.
dang.i got to get a new pair of boots.done wore the old ones out.
Pointed boots are for bandits to jump in the heel and tip faster in the horses seat
OK!
The square toe on the Arabia wreck look more like Bike boots than modern cowboy boots
Yeah, you see that on Civil War era boots.
Cool Channel.. I just subscribed.. 100k just around the corner
Thanks for subbing....I wanna get there!
I am surprised by the pointy toe information! Great video!
Much appreciated.
Funny and informative!
Thank you!
I highly recommend the Steamboat Arabia in Kansas City. If you are in the area its like a time machine to 1856.
I soooo want to go there!
Great video
Thanks for the visit
That bowler was nice.
That was a nice attachapas saddle with all those boots.
Congrats Dustin--------cool video
Thanks, Russ.
Very cool, keep it up my friend :) love your videos
Thanks!
Great video! And congrats to dustin!
Thanks!
More!
ok!
thanks, gentelmen: ok, here's the thing....SADDLES. Please do an extensive episode, on the 'chairs' that built the oldwest, one of many foundations, of our history. Perhaps, one on lariats.......ropes. thankyou too much....from central alberta canada
Did one on saddles, will do one on lariats hopefully soon. Thanks!
I just bought a pair of Tony Lamas. Great boots.
Yes they are!
Make a video on buckles
Alright.
A bit aggressive aye
Hahahah loved the beginning! Made me chuckle :) I'm the same way- neeeeed coooofffeeeee :D Wow that's amazing! Women's boots have changed so much. Mens not as much. But really neat to see the history! Great video, Santee :)
You forgot to mention that in the old west a lot of shoes and boots didn't come in rights or lefts, both boots were identical and didn't become a right or left shoe till you broke them in that way. If you wanted shoes or boots fitted to your feet, you went to a local shoemaker or cobbler for custom made boots.
Because right and left have been made since the early 1800s (or some historians say earlier), there was no need to mention it.
Not what I was expectin', then I noticed the title said "BOOTS". Still entertaining though!
LOL!
I want to live in the Wild West from now on...
Plenty of space here.
High top.boot was /is handy for putting that nice little bottle of redeye away in a safe place .. well that's what I use mine for ..
Yeah! Dan't boots have a little pocket sewn into them. I was really jealous of that.
The pointed toes are to kill cockroaches in the corners of the bunkhouses
Ther good for the occasional brawl also keep your crotch out of the way a nice pair of cowboy boots can hurt I’ve never killed cockroaches with mine
very cool info!
Thanks, MJ. Hope you are well.
thank you - right back atcha
Hot ankles!
Thanks. I think they are pretty hot as well. My best feature, really.
good morning guys!!!!! .... and "Lovely" is exactly how I would describe Dirty D ha ha ha... kinda of like my first prom date !!! :-) I really thought I had this vid figured out Cheese, and was sure you would end it with a close up of the red boots JW painted in Hawaii a couple of years ago :-) that's what I get for being a "know it all" !!!
I forgot about those he painted!!
A lot of content to chew through.
Yes
Santee is my idol
Thank You!
Round toes & flat heels; that's why I wear ropers🤠
It works
I remember seeing a recording and it was an old footage one
Guy is making a boot with fire
It happens.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Makin' do with what ya got
didn't know that you had to soak boots. thanks for the good info! :)
Well, that's what they did 140 years ago. Not sure I would do that today.
Yeah I figured boots these days are real different. oh and btw.. you won something :) go check out the Nov sub giveaway winner announcement. Please ;)
OOOOO, gonna check now!
😂😂😂 great vid congrates to the winner
Good video liked
Nice
Just found your channel and I need to say it is great but could you please add more information on the subject you are doing thanks Tom
Thank you.
2:03 gives me an idea, a common trope even in family friendly cowboy movies.. what about brothels in the old west?
Saw you won GAW from RavenHawk Coins and came to check oiut your channel. Very interesting and subbed ya brother....Ron
Thank you and welcome!
I love my pale rider boots
Comfy, eh?
@@ArizonaGhostriders foot moves a little too much in the boots. But wearing them for a couple hours at a time helps
@@SlickSixguns Maybe some insoles?
It's in most of the Westerns, if you want to leave a man for dead, take his guns and his boots. That works for everyone but the main character. But, the first thing the main character will do is find some boots and guns. So, boots are pretty darn high on the list.
LOL! Yes!
I love your videos very interesting, i asked a question on one of your videos but I'm not sure if i deleted my comment or just can't find it anyways i asked if they used insoles in boots back than and what they would've been made of
Pretty sure it was just leather from the manufacturer like today.
Can you please do about old west coats
Did one! Coats and Jackets.
Oh can you guys do a video on historically accurate saddles of the time period?
Did one.
If you get to KC good to Steamboat Arabia. It's great.
Hi Santee! Have you talked about woven blankets, like Chimayo?
Not yet!
John Wayne in the Lucky Texan 1934 it’s on RUclips
Scanning and only seeing rounded toes...we'll see what the other half shows. Wayne's boots like they might actually have some square at the toe.
Got a screenshot. Rounded toe.
Can you make one on picking old west nicknames ?
Sure
Santee, could you do a video on old west funerals ?
It's a dead subject. HA! Seriously, yes I can.
I think a couple pairs of my boots are that old.
Too bad you didn’t show the riding heels. They made the Cuban heel look like a tennis shoe. Your foot didn’t get hung up in the stirrup with them on. Had a couple pairs of them. Don’t know if you can get them anymore outside of custom boots.
Interesting.
Most people in the 19th century and early 20th century wore their pants inside their boots, despite that being seen as improper for cowboy boots by some nowadays.
Thanks for watching.
Santeen , give u some iinfo. and video on the beer of the olde west. ????????
Great video but I think the guy asking the question was referring to the brand Old West. Maybe I'm wrong but that's why I watched it haha
Nope, he meant the boots made in the Old West (there was more than one request).
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks for clarifying. As I said still great video. Cheers.
@@joshhead9368 Thanks, much!
Im wondering about old west boot socks now
Great video, I gave it a thumbs up 👍. But would you explain to viewers that when the cowboys got the boots wet in the creek, they got on their horses and rode them dry? Too many people believe the cowboys walked them dry and it will wreck your feet!!!! I am a boot black!
Good info and yes I will in the future! Thanks.
Could you do a video on on horse and riders thank you
Yes
