I know a regular folk don't get the horse button. But in the horse community, it is a very poplar device. Especially with increasingly popular virtual riding lessons. There is a facebook page specifically to problem solve the challenges to pivo following horses. I have had no problems with pivo following my horse so I have never had to ask any questions there. Great review. I never really knew all the stuff that pivo can do. Cool little device.
Hey I really appreciate you taking the time to provide this information. In the video, I sound a little dismissive of the horse feature, because I don't use horses in my workflow (so to speak). But it's really great to hear that the device does indeed provide quality services for those who have horses. Obviously Pivo saw a need to include the horse tracking in their product, so I imagine there are thousands of people out there who do use it for that purpose.
Best ever! You explained everything so well you practically broke down every single detail. You’re awesome you did a great job! Thank you I’m officially sold on this device
Excellent! I tried to include everything I could think of. Just know that the app has been updated since I made this video so it will look a little different and there may be some new features as well.
Oh cool. The tracking feature should work pretty well for puppets as long as they stay on screen and relatively the same size in the frame. If you move them toward the screen or move them out of frame, the object tracking might stop working. For most applications it should work great.
I’m about 1/4 of the way through the video and WOW !! Thank you SO much for this amazing review. The time and effort you put into it is appreciated!! Thank you, thank you, thank you !!! I’m definitely gonna purchase with your link!
I just got my Pivo Silver today. I use it for my horse. What I do is I place my Pivo outside of my horses training fence and I train him. I rewatch after, to see what accomplishments we made. Where we need to work more. Riding- a lot of show riders use the Pivo to see how their riding is for each show. Even how their horse is walking- if he is lame. So many different uses.
I'm so glad to hear that it works well for horse riding. I joked in my video about people not having horses, but I realize a lot of people do and get the Pivo just for that purpose. So it's great to get some feedback on that as I just wasn't able to speak to that in my video. Did it ever lose tracking with your horse? I've heard that if the sun is behind the horse, or the lighting is dim, it stops tracking.
@@AugmentedActor it’s fine. I’m seeing so many people use it for for some really cool uses! It’s been tracking my horse perfectly. I know one down side is he has to wear bright working boots, so the tracking stays on him or it will lose him. Only when the battery gets low. I love the other features! Having fun with it! Your video is wonderful explaining the features!
I’d like to purchase this with the intention of recording a party on my iPad mini 6th gen. Is there a option to pan from left to right continuously? Also is the iPad COMPATABLE ?
Hi Tony, Sorry for the slow response, I had to break out my pivo and test it. So there doesn't seem to be a setting in either of the pivo apps that allows you to just have it rotate continuously. There is a full rotation setting which will pan left to right or right to left a full 360 degrees, but then it automatically stops shooting after one rotation. You can adjust how fast it rotates and with a remote, you could periodically trigger a rotation video and then stitch them together. The only way I could find to keep it rotating continuously is to hold the remote button down manually and it will turn until you stop. So if you want something to record the entire party, then this probably isn't the solution, but if you want to pick up some rotating shots here and there it can do it. And yes, the pivo is compatible with an ipad and it will turn it just fine. A mini ipad is even better because it's lighter and smaller than a regular ipad, but I hooked up my 10inch ipad and it turned just fine. Just make sure it's not in a location where it can easily get bumped into because on a tripod it might get a little top heavy.
WOW! What a great informative video. You Sir, have helped me make a very informed decision. Please make more content about Pivo.😊 I enjoyed your video so much, I have subscribed 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks I appreciate that. I have at least one other more current video about the pivo and it’s new features. And just so you know the main focus of my channel is for acting and performance arts but I cover a wide variety of subjects within that so hopefully you find some of my other content enjoyable as well.
Thanks for the great review...Im in a band and am tire of asking patrons to take pictures of our band while playing live. What mode would you recomend...Does it have a tripod mount?
I believe you can just put it in regular follow mode and it will track your face if you’re decently lit on stage and you don’t have too many other faces moving about. You could use the remote control to snap photos or you can have it capture video and then save stills from the video. It does have a screw hole on the bottom that fits most any tripod. There’s also modes for taking photos when you strike a pose but in your case there might be all sorts of photos popping off depending on how much or little movement you make on stage. I puked recommend using the remote. The other issue is that a person taking photos can decide what to capture and compose the shot nicely whereas with the Pivo you’ll pretty much take what it gives you. In it there words the photos might turn out blurry or it might not zoom in far enough or it might lose tracking and start following an audience member’s face etc. So I’d still recommend asking a person to take photos while you experiment with placement and modes to see what works best. The pivo is probably going to work better recording video for you and tracking your face or maybe a guitar or other object.
The horse tracking works great and people use it for lesson programs and online lessons with your coach from anywhere in the world. You’ll need a C coach to hear and chat with your coach while riding.
Hi there. since every shooting is done by the Pivo apps, whats your opinion about the quality of photos and videos taken by the apps? High-quality? or so-so? Thanks
As far as I can tell, there's no quality loss on the images or videos. It seems to use the camera's native functions to record through the app. You may notice quality loss when the trick shot effects are applied (fringing around the edges where two sides are stitched together, etc). But the camera still shoots in high quality.
Thanks for your question. You can use any microphone that will attach to your phone with the Pivo. I prefer a body mic like the rode wireless go or go II. Which is an all in one body mic and transmitter/receiver. You can use a small cord/dongle to attach the receiver to your phone and just clip the body mic on your shirt or hold it, etc. I have a review on that. ruclips.net/video/G5bqP1qoQ1I/видео.html
Tough to say. If you don't have a helmet on, it might be able to track your face, but when you turn around or move away too far it might lose tracking. You can have it track an object, like maybe put a red dot on the bike or yourself and it might be able to maintain tracking there. I would say it will work some of the time, but that you may experience some hiccups and I wouldn't rely on it to capture everything.
If your face is in the frame in both sitting and standing it will keep you in focus. But it doesn’t tilt up and down. Only pans side to side. But for most self tape auditions you want the camera to remain still anyway. Except maybe for a movement audition.
Thanks for this. I speak on Sundays to my church. I am using iPhone with Facebook live. I bought the pivo lite. Just the camera will follow me. but my challenge is getting on Facebook Live. I have the Pivo Lite.
I'm pretty sure the Lite can still live stream. You just need to use the Pivo Live app. Here's a link with instructions on how to set it up: help.getpivo.com/hc/en-001/articles/4408308122393-Live-streaming-on-Facebook However, I have not tried this myself and I don't own the Lite Pivo, so I really don't know for sure this will work, but hopefully you can figure out how to make it work. Good luck.
Hard to say. I haven't tried it in that environment. The water ripples and other swimmers might cause it to lose tracking and you may have to angle the tripod downward to see the swimmer in the water from above. But I think with a contrasting swim suit (like red or yellow or white), it should track reasonably well and you could always try object tracking and have it track the suit instead of the person. I would still probably recommend a person watch it the first time you try it out to make sure it stays on track.
Hey Doug ! Great video !! Thanks for doing this. I've been looking at the Pivo for a minute and have been thinking about purchasing it. You made my decision easy. Keep up the great work ! Thanks again brother !!
Hello do you know if this can track groups such as soccer or football? I know you mentioned that it can track small items but I wonder if it can track groups because I am a fitness coach and we do a lot of movement throughout the day!
It’s not going to work great with groups. There is a new feature where you can target one body and it will try to stay locked on them even in a group but it’s still in beta and a little buggy. But it won’t do well with a large group as there’s too much info for it to lock onto.
Killer video! I was contemplating selling my Pivo Silver since I I have the DJI Osmo 4 as well, but it's clear now that the Pivo is worth keeping. Thank you!
Thank you for this very informative review! I have a question, I see that you are using a wireless mic in your outdoor videos. Is the capability to use a wireless a feature available on Pivo? Or are you using a separate recording device for recording your sound?
It’s a combination of both. When I used the microphone, I usually had it hooked up to my DSLR camera and then synched it up to the audio from my phone when editing. The pivo itself doesn’t have any audio jacks but you can hook a microphone up to your phone as long as it’s a small enough attachment that the pivo can turn it with the phone. You also might have trouble attaching a jack to the bottom of the phone while in vertical orientation as the phone sits in the pivo on the bottom where the jack usually is. So I do recommend recording audio using another device if you’re outdoors. For most of the indoor shots I just used my phone’s built in microphone.
Wow!! I wasn't even partway thru your video and already decided that I need one of these! 😂 Excellent video, very informative, MUCH more than I was expecting to learn about this little gadget. Thank you!! And now you gained a new fan. 😃
I have not reviewed the other models. I pretty much only review equipment that I actually own. I know that the red works similarly to the silver except it doesn’t turn as quickly as the silver, so perhaps the black and gold work even faster. Would be nice to have a Pivo that also tilts.
Really great video! Do you know of there is something like this for GoPro? I was thinking of buying this but always have no space on my phone so I was hoping there is something like this for my GoPro 🤔 Thanks again for the great video, very well thought through and also entertaining 😊
There may be some sort of device that works with the goPro, but the Pivo does not, mainly because it requires the app on a phone to operate it and track everything from the phone's camera. Since you can't run the app on a goPro, it won't turn. Plus the built in mount is a slot for a phone, so I don't think you could even attach another camera and just use it with the remote.
You could mount a camera to the pivo if it’s light enough for the motor to turn. You can unscrew the phone mount which exposes a quarter inch mount screw (like most tripods have). This is how the product 360 tray attaches to it. However, since you’d be using a camera instead of a phone you won’t be able to use the pivo app. You won’t be able to auto track or do any of the special effects I showed in the video. All that has to use a phone with the app installed. You can use the remote control to manually turn the pivo left and right so you could use a small camera and then adjust its pan with the remote but most all other features won’t work.
That's a great question. Something I hadn't considered yet. I tried putting the phone in upside down to see if it would work, and you can use the front facing camera, but the back facing camera gets obscured. Also the pivo app controls are upside down. It's not really designed to have anything plugged into the phone in vertical position. It WILL work in landscape. But if you need to shoot in vertical with a mic, then I would recommend using an audio recorder separately and hooking the mic up to that or a second phone to record audio. This obviously wouldn't work for live streaming without a mixer of some sort. There also may be some sort of bluetooth mic option, for instance hooking some airpods up to the phone would work.
Such a great review, thanks! Trying to find if someone that knows if there is a telepromter feature? Or can you use a telepromter app and pivo will still track you? I need to do walk and talk shots with telepromter.
Thanks for your question. In order to use the functionality of the Pivo, you need to shoot everything using the Pivo Play app. The app does not include a teleprompter feature, although that’s an excellent idea to suggest for future development. I know that you can download for free many teleprompter apps for your phone that will work on a separate device or tablet but they won’t be able to rotate at the same time. If you don’t need to rotate the camera too much in your setup I’d suggest setting up a second device right behind the device on the pivo that has a teleprompter going and hopefully you can see it when the pivo is rotated to the right or left. Even with a teleprompter app you can’t record and use the teleprompter from the same device so you would need a separate teleprompter anyway.
@@AugmentedActor thanks so much for your reply! I have emailed PIVO, I think it would be a great asset! I do actually have an app that I use called Big VU and you can read and record at the same time, so good, now I just need the camera to track and we are there!! Thanks again! Mel
In order for the pivo to control the auto tracking and other effect shots you have to record within the Pivo Play or Pivo+ apps. So it doesn’t work using other film apps like filmic pro. You are able to shoot with filmic pro and use the remote control to turn the camera remotely but not to auto track.
A lot of people teach general education or physical fitness over Zoom (ie: Yoga, etc.) . Probably very useful in real-estate as well. All things 2020 considered (lock-downs, etc.), this is the iPhone accessory of the year, IMO.
It’s a Rode Wireless Go. I did a review of it. ruclips.net/video/G5bqP1qoQ1I/видео.html there is a newer version available now. amzn.to/3enOsDW The handle I use is called the Rode Interview Go. amzn.to/2VRkd1G it’s just a plastic handle and wind dampener that the microphone unit slides into. Check out my accessories video for more specifics on how to use it with a phone or camera. ruclips.net/video/Leff2iMJBZw/видео.html
I haven’t tried it for something like that but my guess is that there would be too many competing targets for it to accurately follow and it would just start moving back and forth. It’s really designed for one person tracking. There is a new body target lock that is supposed to keep tracking a single person but again it’s meant for times when that person is clearly scene the entire time.
GoPro is probably my recommendation because it has a wide lens and is easy to move around. Btw the pivo isn’t really a camera. Your phone is also a good options since that’s what the pivo shoots with anyway.
@@AugmentedActor Thank You again.. thing is I wanted to record my Basketball games while I'm playing .. so i need a tripod and a panoramic lens which GoPro 30 has , I was just looking for an alternative
I used a tripod for almost all the shots. The pivo mounts on any standard tripod. It has a screw hole in the bottom which can either screw right to a tripod or to a tripod mount.
Thank you keep looking for reviews yours was great! I also want to add I was able to use my iPad on the pivo as well. The mount that pivo gives holds it super tight. Best purchase ever
Oh, that's good to know about the iPad. I never really tried it out to see. I wish there was one that worked with DSLR cameras, but I suppose they can't put the app on those cameras.
cool product, but my question is. I'm going to be recording during my bjj classes and with their being a lot of people in the room, will it stay on me?
Good question and it's honestly something I haven't tested out. Are you leading the class? or are you mixed in with a bunch of other people? If you're leading it and facing the group, then it should be able to focus on you. If you are mixed with others or using a mirror, then it might have trouble tracking. What might help is to have light on you or to wear a bright solid color, so it knows to focus on that. You can also have it track an object, like your shirt or a logo or something like that but it may lose tracking if other objects or people enter the frame. You can also limit how far it turns in each direction so if it loses tracking with you for a moment, it won't turn all the way around, but will try to look for you within that angle of direction. None of these are solid answers for your decision to buy, I realize, but my best guess is that it should track you most of the time, but no guarantee.
Thank you. You could repeat the same action with each take of the clone feature and then all of them would be doing roughly the same thing. But I don’t think there’s a way to natively copy the same clip several times in a line. You’d have to move your body and repeat the same action. That’s actually a fun idea.
@@AugmentedActor thank you and sorry I took so long to reply. I just got my Pivo in the mail today so I looked up your video again! Great suggestion to repeat roughly the same thing. I'm going to try it! Thanks again
Thanks for your comment. Appreciate it. I get most of my music from Envato Elements. It's a subscription service around $180 per year and you can download unlimited music, sfx, graphics, photos, video, templates, all kinds of stuff.
1. I'd like a video on how to use the back cameras and also in LandScape mode. 2. Was confused as the PIVO+ app doesn't have all the features you explained as of this taping, and now in the APP Store there is PivoStudio PivoCast Pivo+ PivoPlay PivoTour PivoLive PivoPresent, I am confused as to what all these apps are, and in the side menu swipe are not in the PivoApp but in the PivoPlay app, I guess I can figure it out, just a little confused thanks for the review :)
Yes things have changed a bit since that video. I did an updated video on the new Pivo apps: ruclips.net/video/5SQeSvFZjRo/видео.html The features all used to be in one app and now they are split into several, you can get most everything in the Pivo+ and the Pivo Play apps and they should work closely to how I described them in this video. All the other pivo apps are paid apps that give you a few extra features (for example pivo present allows you to share a screen and your camera to present a presentation). I did not review or test those separate apps, but the video linked above will at least tell you what they all do. To use the back camera, you just turn the phone around and it should still auto track you. Most of the special camera modes utilize the front facing camera only, but auto-tracking should work on the back camera. And same for landscape: just turn the phone landscape and you can use it for auto tracking and a few of the camera modes. But most modes are designed for vertical only. Hope this helps.
There's been a lot of app updates and product versions that have come out since I posted this video. My understanding is that Pivo Plus and or Pivo Play are the apps that allow you to do most or all of the features in this video. help.getpivo.com/hc/en-001/articles/4408769098137-Introduction-to-Pivo-Pods This weblink gives more information about which app to use with each model of Pivo. You may have the correct app and it's just been updated since this video was released. Hope this helps.
I e heard there’s a similar product that works with GoPro but the pivo needs an app on the device to do all its tricks so it only works with smart phones. And the mount is a smart phone mount.
I would think a human camera operator would be best for that scenario. With all the different bodies moving about, it would just cause the Pivo to lose its tracking. Plus even if it did track one person effectively it might miss important shots with someone else. However you could set it up and use the manual remote to turn the camera side to side to follow the action, but even that might miss the action.
@@AugmentedActor My idea is to follow the referee. the only one always on the field and with different jersey. The ball might be tricky to follow. a human camera operator is the thing you would want to avoid. sorry for my english
I would say that it MIGHT work to track the ref. But if anyone crossed in front of him, the PIVO might lose tracking and start to search for the ref again. The Pivo sometimes will start to turn to look for it’s target and it points the wrong direction. You’d still want to have a human monitoring the camera and resetting it if it gets off track. But I still would not recommend it for this purpose. It pretty good at tracking one person’s face but not so great at a group of people or if they turn away from the camera etc.
To my knowledge there are two ways to handle zooms while using the Pivo. Both using the Pivo Play app. One is to put it on auto zoom, which will slowly zoom in on the face if it is far away and if you move close it will slowly zoom out. If you want to manually control the zoom, you should turn off the auto zoom setting and I believe you can just pinch in or out on the screen to zoom. You'll also see a little zoom slider on the lower right side of the screen.
Yes, without auto tracking, I think you have to use the remote control to rotate it back and forth. Or you might be able to set it to slowly rotate if you want to do a constant rotation.
If you stay close to the side of the floor where the camera is so that other couples don’t cross your path too much, it may work. Although I haven’t tested it in that sort of scenario, I imagine the tracker would get confused about which body to track and you might be able to have someone draw a tracking box around your outfit or a hat or something and then it might stay with you, but the location would have to have adequate lighting and I really don’t think the pivo is sophisticated enough to stay on target if you were to turn or move around too much. My guess is that you would run into problems and would still want a person operating the camera to make adjustments.
@@AugmentedActor Thank you so much. I was worried about that. If it can track a particular horse I was hoping it could identify a specific body. Does Pivo have a sensor one could wear so that it tracks you? Is there any other brand that could do that? Would the Pivo Gold track better? I am looking for a range of 50ft. Your taking time to respond to your subscribers is much appreciated. Love your reviews. Thanks.
@@ernestngo210 I honestly have not tried the Gold version nor have I used any alternative tracking devices. To my knowledge Pivo doesn't yet make a tracking device, but I imagine if you have a contrasting colored object that you could wear on your head or shoulders, it might be good enough to track that in adequate lighting.
@@AugmentedActor Thank you. Maybe I may need to get one to test. If I use Pivo at eye level other couples would get in the way. How about using Pivo on a tripod and raise it above head level and aim down slightly?
My videos on the pivo should be pretty close to walking you through all this. Although they are over two years old now, and the app has probably been updated since then. I'm sorry I can't be of more help as I don't have the current software installed any more. But keep digging in the app and on your device. It's probably something simple that you are overlooking. Have you tried swiping on your phone to the right or left? That's where the apps are usually stored. You can also visit the pivo web site for up to date instructions. support.pivo.ai/hc/en-001/categories/360001581551-Pivo-Play
Was wondering if you can set up the pivo to record 360 normal video as one shot? As if I were to hit record, starts filming and rotating until a full 360 is done and stop recording.
The pivo can and does rotate 360 degrees. If you shoot timelapse or panorama shots it definitely just turns all the way around. If you are auto tracking it will follow you all the way around in a circle (as long as your well lit from all directions. You can also use the remote to turn the camera 360 degrees. But it can’t be used as a substitute for a 360 camera (like for VR). Does that answer your question?
Can you set it up to record as it rotates? Regular video, not panoramic or time lapse. I'm looking to record the same shot over and over so that each shot is the same length and turns at the same rate
Sorry for the slow response. I had to test it out to see if it could do this. From what I can tell, you can really only achieve this in a couple ways. Use the capture mode with the remote and turn off auto tracking. You can set the speed of the remote to a specific value so it will always turn the same speed, but you have to hold the remote button down to manually turn the camera around 360 degrees (and there's no precision in the degrees turned. In other words, you can't set it to just turn 360 degrees, you have to start and stop the turning manually). The other way is to use the 360 studio turntable mode and instead of using the plate, you mount the camera and it will turn and take a 360 degree turn and record video. However, this mode only allows for square format and it doesn't capture at a full 30 or 60 fps like most videos are shot. So I would say, it's probably not going to be the best solution for your specific ask, but if you aren't too particular about the precision of the rotation, you can achieve several 360 rotation shots that will all be the roughly the same length (you just might need to trim the ends of them to get them to line up) and the same speed, you'll just have to hold the remote or have a second person hold the remote, in order to do it.
I would highly recommend a microphone anytime you are outside otherwise your phone picks up a lot of extra noise. A body mic is probably best or a handheld like I use in the video.
Probably won't be very adequate for that unless you have a person nearby to get it back on track if it loses tracking. But because so many bodies are moving in front of each other, it will most likely cause the pivo to lose tracking and start moving back and forth haphazardly.
@@AugmentedActor I can't even imagine the number of hours you may have put in. Appreciate it really. In the end I have decided to buy the matter port camera for my needs but your videos were helpful in making that decision.
Dude, nice work. Clear, to the point, not too long. Good job my friend. Seems like it's a decent product for $140 or so. Considering what things cost today, I think it's worth keeping in my camera bag. One thing I was wondering about: Is there a way to slow the rate at which the camera stops? It seems to stop suddenly when tracking you and it looks odd when the tracking stops quickly. Thank you.
Thanks I appreciate your comments about the video. I don’t know if there’s a way to slow down the stops themselves but you can adjust the speed at which the tracking moves in general. So perhaps a slower speed overall would seem less sudden when it stops moving. Also be aware that in a few of my shots I sped up the film a little to illustrate the feature and still keep the video moving along so it’s possible that the stops seemed a little more sudden.
It won’t make the view on your phone any wider (if you’re looking for a long shot. But if you have a spread of cards and you are moving back and forth in front of them it will follow your face side to side. Or you can have it follow your Dobber for instance. Just note that you can’t til it your phone downward to see the cards on the table. It only moves by rotating your phone left and right. Not up and down. The auto zoom (or remote zoom) can help you zoom in on stuff but again you can’t tilt down or up. So depending on what type of stuff you need to capture just keep that in mind.
It works on android phones made after 2017. If by portrait mode you mean vertical mode then yes. If you mean shooting with the portrait camera for nice depth of field (blur) then I’m not sure. I know on the iPhone it can shoot with either camera but the pivo app does all the photography and video (not your phones native camera app. For instance I can’t shoot using portrait mode while using the pivo app on the iPhone. But I’m not sure how it works on an android. All of the features of Pivo should work as I demonstrated on your phone.
I just downloaded the app update to see if it has changed. It's still a beta feature and as it stands no, no you can't do just two. It's only 3 videos. You can set the length of each segment from 3 to 15 seconds, but not the number of videos shot. The many me photo feature will allow you to adjust to 2 shots. If you want to see what the features do you can always download the free Pivo Play app and play around with the settings, You just won't have the pivo to rotate the camera.
I got the red Pivo...unfortunately it's slowly becoming a white elephant due to this pandemic, sad, need to get motivated again Anyway, thx for the tutorial, it's a refresher course for me

I know one down side is he has to wear bright working boots, so the tracking stays on him or it will lose him. Only when the battery gets low. I love the other features! Having fun with it! Your video is wonderful explaining the features!
Thanks so much for the feedback. It may help other horse owners decide about the Pivo.
I just bought one for that purpose too!
Absolutly loved this review. First time someone made it so easy!
I’m so pleased to hear it. Thanks!
That is by far the most detailed review. Thank you so much!
You’re welcome. Glad you found the review helpful.
Dec 1 2022, thanks for the review nicely done 👌 Does this work in landscape?
Almost all modes work on landscape. The auto tracking for sure does. Only a few of the special camera effects require portrait mode.
This review was absolutely amazing!! The detail you put into this is nuts, thank you!!!
Aw. Thanks. Appreciate the comment.
Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad to hear that horse tracking works as it should and that there are options for coaching using pivo as well.
Hi there. since every shooting is done by the Pivo apps, whats your opinion about the quality of photos and videos taken by the apps? High-quality? or so-so? Thanks
As far as I can tell, there's no quality loss on the images or videos. It seems to use the camera's native functions to record through the app. You may notice quality loss when the trick shot effects are applied (fringing around the edges where two sides are stitched together, etc). But the camera still shoots in high quality.
@@AugmentedActor Many thanks to you!👍🏻🤓
How do you get best sound quality when conducting presentations - what microphone is compatible or preferred ? - thanks
Do you think it would follow a person doing BMX tricks in a Garage, will it track my body on a bike?
Tough to say. If you don't have a helmet on, it might be able to track your face, but when you turn around or move away too far it might lose tracking. You can have it track an object, like maybe put a red dot on the bike or yourself and it might be able to maintain tracking there. I would say it will work some of the time, but that you may experience some hiccups and I wouldn't rely on it to capture everything.
@@AugmentedActor Great, thanks for the reply!! I think it’s worth trying.
This is a good review. Does it shoot if I do a sit /then stand position for my self tape auditions.
If your face is in the frame in both sitting and standing it will keep you in focus. But it doesn’t tilt up and down. Only pans side to side. But for most self tape auditions you want the camera to remain still anyway. Except maybe for a movement audition.
@@AugmentedActor ok thanks
Thanks for this. I speak on Sundays to my church. I am using iPhone with Facebook live. I bought the pivo lite. Just the camera will follow me. but my challenge is getting on Facebook Live. I have the Pivo Lite.
I'm pretty sure the Lite can still live stream. You just need to use the Pivo Live app. Here's a link with instructions on how to set it up: help.getpivo.com/hc/en-001/articles/4408308122393-Live-streaming-on-Facebook
However, I have not tried this myself and I don't own the Lite Pivo, so I really don't know for sure this will work, but hopefully you can figure out how to make it work. Good luck.
Thanks for the info, very helpful. Do you think this Pivo would automatically track in a pool environment while swimming?
Hard to say. I haven't tried it in that environment. The water ripples and other swimmers might cause it to lose tracking and you may have to angle the tripod downward to see the swimmer in the water from above. But I think with a contrasting swim suit (like red or yellow or white), it should track reasonably well and you could always try object tracking and have it track the suit instead of the person. I would still probably recommend a person watch it the first time you try it out to make sure it stays on track.
@@AugmentedActor thank you, I appreciate it
Thank you for sharing this information. The demonstrations were excellent!
You’re welcome.
Hey Doug ! Great video !! Thanks for doing this. I've been looking at the Pivo for a minute and have been thinking about purchasing it. You made my decision easy. Keep up the great work ! Thanks again brother !!

I am not able to create any of these effects! How do I access any of these options??? I have THE PIVO Black
You need to install the pivo Play app on your phone and then you should find all the fun effects.
can you guide me on how to access these supposed cool futures The app is not user friendly in splining' it to me.
Ok got it thanks a lot!
Killer video! I was contemplating selling my Pivo Silver since I I have the DJI Osmo 4 as well, but it's clear now that the Pivo is worth keeping. Thank you!
I think it’s good to have the benefits of both devices available as long as you find uses for them in your production pipeline.
May I ask if it suit for sitting playing piano in the video?
It would work for that, although if you are seated and not moving around, then you don't really need the camera to move and could just use a tripod.
@@AugmentedActor thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you for this very informative review!
@@AugmentedActor Thank you for your feedback!
Wow!! I wasn't even partway thru your video and already decided that I need one of these! 😂 Excellent video, very informative, MUCH more than I was expecting to learn about this little gadget. Thank you!! And now you gained a new fan. 😃
That’s great. And thanks so much for commenting!!
Have you reviewed the black or gold? Love the silver! But still deciding which is best
@@AugmentedActor thanks for answering :) I did some more searching and found something like the Pivo for my GoPro 😊 Great video, thx again!!
You’ll have to let me know what product it is. I just got a GoPro
Can we attach a small camera to it
You could mount a camera to the pivo if it’s light enough for the motor to turn.
How can I add a wireless mic to the iPhone in vertical position on pivo?
Mel
Does pivo pot works with filmic pro app?
In order for the pivo to control the auto tracking and other effect shots you have to record within the Pivo Play or Pivo+ apps. So it doesn’t work using other film apps like filmic pro. You are able to shoot with filmic pro and use the remote control to turn the camera remotely but not to auto track.

Is this good for recording full court Basketball games ?
I haven’t tried it for something like that but my guess is that there would be too many competing targets for it to accurately follow and it would just start moving back and forth. It’s really designed for one person tracking. There is a new body target lock that is supposed to keep tracking a single person but again it’s meant for times when that person is clearly scene the entire time.
Thank You Very Much .. what you said makes a lot of sense
You recommend a camera like this aside from GoPro ?
GoPro is probably my recommendation because it has a wide lens and is easy to move around. Btw the pivo isn’t really a camera. Your phone is also a good options since that’s what the pivo shoots with anyway.
@@AugmentedActor Thank You again.. thing is I wanted to record my Basketball games while I'm playing .. so i need a tripod and a panoramic lens which GoPro 30 has , I was just looking for an alternative
Great video! Did you use any tripod? Would the pivo fit a regular tripod?
I used a tripod for almost all the shots. The pivo mounts on any standard tripod. It has a screw hole in the bottom which can either screw right to a tripod or to a tripod mount.
This is my favorite tripod. amzn.to/3yhSFkw

Amazing! Thank you!
You’re welcome!!
cool product, but my question is.
@@AugmentedActor thanks for the input!!
Loved this review and how inspiring you were with it. With the clones, can you make them all do the same thing at the same time? As in a line?
Let me know how it goes. Hope you enjoy the Pivo. I know that the app has changed a little bit since this review.
Hey I enjoy your videos they are informative and entertaining. Where do you get your background music from?
Thanks for your comment. Appreciate it. I get most of my music from Envato Elements. It's a subscription service around $180 per year and you can download unlimited music, sfx, graphics, photos, video, templates, all kinds of stuff.
@@AugmentedActor thanks I appreciate that I will check them out.
My app doesn't look like this! There is Pivo Plus, Play, Cast, Studio, present, Tour and Live. Which one do I use?
There's been a lot of app updates and product versions that have come out since I posted this video. My understanding is that Pivo Plus and or Pivo Play are the apps that allow you to do most or all of the features in this video. help.getpivo.com/hc/en-001/articles/4408769098137-Introduction-to-Pivo-Pods This weblink gives more information about which app to use with each model of Pivo. could it work for filming basketball competitions?
How do you zoom? Close up to farxawY
You'll also see a little zoom slider on the lower right side of the screen.
yes thankyou for your breakdown much appreciated
You're very welcome!
Hey, I don’t need the auto tracking feature, just the rotation. Can it rotate without me using auto tracking?
Yes, without auto tracking, I think you have to use the remote control to rotate it back and forth. Or you might be able to set it to slowly rotate if you want to do a constant rotation.
Great rundown of Pivo's features. Thanks.
You’re welcome.
Thanks. Will be sharing with grandchild.
That's great! Hope they like it.
Very good details. Can I use it track me in Ballroom if other couples are on the floor?
Possibly.

where are you locating the settings? I am not finding any of this! at all with this stupid device. It is seriously annoying me.
My videos on the pivo should be pretty close to walking you through all this. Although they are over two years old now, and the app has probably been updated since then. I'm sorry I can't be of more help as I don't have the current software installed any more. But keep digging in the app and on your device. It's probably something simple that you are overlooking.
Do you need a microphone to film outside for educational videos?
I would highly recommend a microphone anytime you are outside otherwise your phone picks up a lot of extra noise. A body mic is probably best or a handheld like I use in the video.
Here’s the Rode wireless Go that I use: amzn.to/3stGflC
And the handle that goes with it. amzn.to/3dsU3so
But there are many less expensive options and even a newer Rode wireless 2 option.

Great demonstration...
Thank you!
What about recording basketball gMes?
Probably won't be very adequate for that unless you have a person nearby to get it back on track if it loses tracking. But because so many bodies are moving in front of each other, it will most likely cause the pivo to lose tracking and start moving back and forth haphazardly.
Excellent review! I just placed my order. Thank you 😊

This was great! Fun to watch, and very informative. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching
What a cool product. Thanks for the overview.
Thanks, Scott.
Thanks for the review ☺️
You’re welcome!
Awesome review. Thanks.
Do you think this would work for me to record me playing bingo cards? I can’t find anything to focus my phone on me and all my cards for my tik tok
I enjoyed this review. Thank you for making it and leaving it for me to discover.
You’re welcome. I was hoping you’d see it. ;-)
@@AugmentedActor It was very thoughtful of you. I ordered the Pivo so I can give it a try. Luckily I also don't have any horses lying around.
@@jamesTWisco Haha. Hope you enjoy the Pivo and hope you get a horse someday too.
Great video! Gracias.
Thank you!
Solid review!
Thanks. Working on a follow up review soon as well.
Can you turn off the woosh on vs mode?
Yes any added sound effects can be turned off in settings.
@@AugmentedActor thank you!
Very informative, thank you; so much to learn! You got a new sub!
Excellent. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great introduction to the device. Thank you.
You’re welcome!
The best review I’ve been able to find. Thank you!
I'm glad you found it! :)
I am planning to start a fashion n styling RUclips channel so Can I buy it for android would I be able to take the shots in in portrait mood?
It works on android phones made after 2017. If by portrait mode you mean vertical mode then yes. If you mean shooting with the portrait camera for nice depth of field (blur) then I’m not sure. I know on the iPhone it can shoot with either camera but the pivo app does all the photography and video (not your phones native camera app. For instance I can’t shoot using portrait mode while using the pivo app on the iPhone. But I’m not sure how it works on an android. All of the features of Pivo should work as I demonstrated on your phone.
Good review! Very detailed and easy to follow!
Thank you
Can many me video be just 2 instead of 3 subjects?
I just downloaded the app update to see if it has changed. It's still a beta feature and as it stands no, no you can't do just two. It's only 3 videos. You can set the length of each segment from 3 to 15 seconds, but not the number of videos shot. The many me photo feature will allow you to adjust to 2 shots. If you want to see what the features do you can always download the free Pivo Play app and play around with the settings, You just won't have the pivo to rotate the camera.
I got the red Pivo...unfortunately it's slowly becoming a white elephant due to this pandemic, sad, need to get motivated again
Anyway, thx for the tutorial, it's a refresher course for me
I hear you. I shoot most of my content with a dslr camera so I don’t use my PIVO as much as I would like to.
keep on making more videos like this! Just subscribed to your channel! Loved it! :)
Thanks for subscribing. I’ll keep making them.
