This is a great analysis. I'm not a horse rider, but I need something that tracks movement. Thank you for uploading this. Also love how you segmented the video. Great content!
Amazing video. Very clear and reasonable explanation/comparison. It realy helped me a lot for my decission aswell as for getting a feeling about how pivo works. Thank you so much!
You are so good at what you are trying to do here. I am really impressed. You should be hired by one of the main TV networks. Congrats and thank you for your help with this.
I'm looking at the Pivo to help with showing dogs. If the Pivo can track you on a horse, it can track me on the ground with dogs. I didn't like the stickiness of the red. I have Irish Wolfhounds so speed can vary depending on which dog I'm gaiting. (Puppy vs Adult) No jumps until we get to agility, so I loved that you showed vertical movement as well as horizontal. This was by far the best comparison video I have viewed. Thank you for being so precise on the Pivo's capabilities!
Thank you for reviewing the pivos I got one but unfortunately when I ride, there’s always other horses in the arena so it just got lost and I’m gonna have to return it☹️
I really want to get one, but I'll have to save up some money for it because I don't want my parents to have to buy it lol. I might get the Silver one because it's got the faster speed and I'm looking for a speedier loan to jump more on so that would be handy :) but i probably won't be getting one for a while because i've only been riding once a week due to lockdown and the type i get will probably differ on the pony I'll hopefully loan/part-loan. x Thanks for the amazing video!
I need to do an updated one. I've had it over a year now and I keep meaning to do a video putting Silver to the test in the indoor, outdoor and out in the woods
This video needs a disclaimer that Pivo Red is no longer for horse riders. Analysis is great and based on this video my relative bought me a Pivo Red (because he knew that I need this model). Huge disappointment for me when I found out that it’s not support horse tracking (according to FB group since 2022). Pivo ruined my Christmas because I have to return it back to the store and be without any gift 🤷🏽♀️
Sorry to hear that. This video is from three years ago so it’s now of course out of date, it was correct at the time and you can’t go back and edit old videos sadly to add disclaimers. There are plenty of other more recent videos discussing Pivo on RUclips these days, so most of them rank more highly than mine. It’s also worth noting that Pivo now has an entire section of its website dedicated to equestrians and which pods to get which is incredibly useful for purchasing. I hope you enjoy your new Pivo if you choose to get it.
Very useful, thanks! I have the red one for about 2 months now and it's been quite frustrating because I want to use it to film dressage tests. Thanks also for the tip on the facebook group! I joined right away!
Wow, that was alot of effort. Thanks for your time. I can't wait to try out my silver tomorrow! Do you find a need to change the speed setting from normal to fast?
@@RidingWithRhi I just used my silver the first time and it was awesome!! Followed me atoms the entire arena! Used it on fast and it did fine so far but I didn't do much canter. Thanks for the tips. They really helped.
I haven’t personally, but I would recommend asking in their Facebook group as I think you’ll find people who have: facebook.com/groups/PivoHorseRidingCommunity/?ref=share
Looking at getting the pivo silver for video call lessons next year - just in South Africa where the exchange rate isn’t very kind to us at the moment! Would any other sort of tripod work with pivo?
Yes, I’d recommend the Pivo one of course because it’s lightweight and quick to set up, but any tripod with a 1/4 inch universal thread will be compatible
This was really useful. I'm still torn though as I want to be able to film dressage tests for online dressage competition entries. My concern is that it won't cope with the distance. Have to film from behind C and be able to see the whole horse and rider at all times in a 20 x 40 metre or 20 x 60 metre arena. Do you think it would lose me at the bottom end of the arena? Roo x
No I think you’ll be fine. Since this video they’ve updated the software a fair bit. I often film from F and it does just fine in my 20 x 40 instagram.com/p/CHr7sTdnzo1/?igshid=1ftab6e9nr2d4
Great work! Very interesting video. I am interested in pivo for dog agility. It looks a bit the same as horse jumping. However there are many obstacles. I wonder if the pivo would lose me or my dog a lot more. Again great video and nice testing.
Thank you! I think it may be too slow for dog agility, but I am sure others have tried. There is a general (non-equestrian) pivo group on Facebook. I would definitely ask in there as I’m sure I’ve seen people share dog agility videos !
I'm first one here 😊 love your videos, I am new to your channel, could you do a video of tips of filming riding with your phone if you have no one to record, if you have already posted this then please forgive me!
They may not have had it when you bought the red. That said, all of the app updates are available for both Pivos and the new auto zoom feature (brought out after this video, available for both pivos) is rather good!
@@RidingWithRhi Yes, but the silver is clearly better. My part loan pony is on summer pasture, but I'm excited to try out the new updates when she comes back in august. I feel like mine works better with the selfie camera, but I can't get a sharply focused image, whereas with the back camera, it is in focus, but looses me three times as often.
Great comparison, very informative 👏 I wonder if you got a clip on lens hood to block the direct sunlight ( so you wouldn’t have the sunbeam affecting the tracking), would it track you better without losing you?
Thanks! And hmm, I’m not sure if that would work, unless I’m not understanding, it’s not so much the sun hitting the lens as it is just the dark / light cast over the arena as the sun passes over?
Yeah most cameras have a tough time shooting directly into the sun. When you showed the footage from a cloudy day (@10:55), it appeared to track you without any issue, in the same part of the arena. Either way, it may be worth it to experiment with a lens hood for the sunny days. Thank you again, your video really helped me with understanding the differences in the red and the silver (I am considering getting the silver) 👍
Yeah for sure. I’m not sure if lens hoods exist for iPhones but I’ll certainly be looking. Glad it was helpful! I definitely prefer the silver, but it’s definitely a personal preference.
You can always make your own, just tape a small piece of cardboard or stiff paper (like a business card) over the top of the lens (make sure it’s not visible in the shot) to test if it makes a difference or not to the tracking in sunlight.
Hey, any clue how to contact pivo and get a good response? I ordered the silver full bundle, after I hit send it was a red that was ordered. All I want is silver and they want me to send the whole bundle back which will cost me a fortune. I feel it was there error and they should fix it
I’m not sure as I’ve not tried myself but I think it might get distracted. I don’t think the tracking is (yet) sophisticated enough to stay with you if another moving horse goes past.
How do you object-tag and activate the track function if you wanted Pivo to track you in a frame composition where you're 10m away ? Does this always need someone else's help?

Well, you've sort of hit the nail on the head. Everything that the Pivo can and can't do is linked to its software and the quality of the phone camera, which makes those things an incredible important part of understanding how good it can be!
This is a fabulous and thorough review of the two PIVO pods that you have. Fantastic work hun :)

This is not a review of Pivo pod, but review of her camera and Pivo software programming 😑

Yes! There's a lot of dressage people in the group who have also given the same feedback to Pivo and it's something they're really trying to work on.
The only thing about this for me is how the footage jacks around real quick and lets you get towards the edge of the screen 🙊
This was really helpful, thank you!
although i don’t think i’ll be needing a pivo any time soon this was a really really well made video. well done - loved it 👍🏻
Thank you Lissy! Such kind feedback ☺️
Thank you very much for your review ! This gave me so much useful information :) !
Rhi, thank you for the effort to assess the Pivo. Question I have: How do you know when it loses you? Does it make a noise or what? thx in advance
It doesn’t - you can usually tell because the phone is no longer “on you” or moving with you
This is really helpful, thank you
This was brilliant thank you! I got the silver.
I hope you love it!
