- We made the 300-mile trip to Ipswich to attend the East Coast Retros Sunday meet. They usually meet of an evening during the summer months at The Rose, Shotley. Find them on Facebook.
Some great cars at the show! Ford Capri in Mk1, 2 and 3 form, A V8-powered Anglia, American Cop Cars (many Crown Victorias), an Opel Rekord, a Ford Taunus 20M RS, Volvos, Volkswagens, the Fiat X1/9 I'd driven the previous week in Wales, a Triumph Dolomite Sprint and 2000s, Rover P4 and P6, Austin Farinas in various sizes and some deliciously retro modified vehicles.

l like the props on the blues brothers dodge "106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses"
@101forceten “Hit it!” For memory, the car is a 1974 Dodge Monaco.
@@tedburnard841 I don't believe it It's that shit-box Dodge again
"It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas"
Fix the cigarette lighter.
He got it after exchanging the Caddy for a microphone :)
Love the three Escorts @06:45 - always a pity you never seem to see more of the 'normal' everyday models. Some folk would have you believe every Escort was at least a Mexico, if not an RS2000 Rally car. My auntie had a maroon 3-dr estate PSP79R from new, lots of family trips/holidays in that - good memories!
3:00 As a resident of NYC, the Impala gave me the chills. The livery is spot on!
Hubnut - probably the only channel where the presenter shows more of an interest in a Ford Fiesta Popular than the Ford Escort Cosworth next to it... this is why I love this channel, its so relatable to my own feelings of fast fords.... they're very nice in their own way but I have no feelings towards cars that many people forget where out the reach of most and were probably better left as a bedroom poster. You just can't relate to them. I'm glad that there is a growing opinion that everyday cars like for example the Fiesta MK1/2/3s are getting more positive attention verses than ever before! That's the future of these cars safeguarded.
It's a 1.1L 😎😎
Forgot too mention, it's mine 🤣
Those Mk V Cortinas have aged EXTREMELY well, if I may say so. They look scrumptious.
My old Mk5 (OLH 33W) was my pride and joy when I was 20 years old,I also fitted the Hella grill. 👍
@@glennpowell3444
I fitted a rubber boot spoiler to mine 3 speakers in each door,2 on the parcel shelf and 2 amp/ graphic equalisers 😂
I part exchanged it against a Y reg rover SD1 2300S .
Nothing long about this video ian!! Lovely walk around. Some delicious cars there. Thanks!
Oh my I could just drool my way round those cars for days, spent 20 mins today talking to a lady with a beautiful standard MK II Scirocco at the top of Horse Shoe pass.
She really gave it the beans when leaving 😊
I really miss my MK2 Scirocco, one of the few cars I now regret selling!
One of the best shows/videos for content Mr HubNut I've seen. My favourite had to be the Y plate Alfa Sud, so many beautiful cars it was hard to choose.
Honoured that my humble little Alfa would be your pick 👍 😁
Great to see Olly is flying the flag for the SAAB 99 with his two cars, an EMS and a GLE. Glorious examples.
Owner of the Aquamarinblau R129 SL here 🙋🏻♂️ great to have you along Ian to showcase the awesome selection of vehicles that show up to the ECR events, and other events too. Keep doing what you're doing my man!
You do great commentary on these events, years of Hubnutting has given real depth of knowledge. Lovely to see these events taking off again too
It must be so heart warming for you to have these events being so well attended, I thoroughly enjoyed the Leeds one.
"Still not sure I'm brave enough to own a Velsatis" says the man with THAT Multipla 🤣
mr hubnut in this case turned at someone elses event :)
@@davestraight8219 Aw crap!! I didn't read it right, if that's the show that they put on then I wish I lived closer than over 3 hours away ☹
@@graemew7001 me too i live further away than you ive only ever been to it once
One day I'll have to go to one of these kind of meets with my Colt 1.3. They look a fascinating way to spend a weekend.
940 escort for ‘even more misery’ hilarious 😂
I loved the Opel Monza when I was young and they were new.
It's a bit like the Manta for adults :-)
Nice one mate. Good to see my mk1 Capri on tv 😎👍
My Dad had an 1988 Croma ie in the same colour and some 131 Fiats which he owned the Mk 1 and 2 and 3👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 great cars here Ian
I’ve seen a couple of the US Police cars at a different show and they really are incredible. A testament to the dedication of their owners. Great vid again Ian 👍🏼
christ ian, you could go on and on in there and none of us would complain, honestly. thank you very much.
The last Crown Vic was built in 2011. The "Blues Brothers" car is a Dodge Monaco. (I'm in the US.)
I think he said 2012 because of my car being on a 62 plate which is a late 2012, ironically it is illegal to have a newer plate on an older car.
This countries dvla, our version of dmv, is just a stupid illogical group like they will destroy the original title which you have to send to them to register. So its become a challenge now to try and get a copy of the title done so i can keep it with the car.
Lot's of headlamp wiper moments !! Perfect
What an amazing selection of all types of cars and motor enthusiasts. A truly eclectic day out (and video).
Thanks for featuring my MK1 ford Granada 3.0 Auto GL (not a Ghia) - The colours called Ford 'Neptune Blue' Metallic - You're right it is a lovey colour and thanks again.
Da iawn HubNut! Nice to see a gathering again. A soft cloth salesman would have a field day, pun intended.
Never thought I would get sentimental about cars, but when I see a Cortina mk5,I realise I'm as vulnerable as anyone.
One was my first car poverty spec 1.6 in midnight blue...EDH160Y
Just spotted your old toyota Starlet on ebay.
Yes, still with the chap who bought it from me.
The red Mk1.5 Capri 3.0 looks gorgeous.
Lovely Crown Vics the GTA 5 Los Santos Police car very cool. I know MR Richardson wants one.
It was great to finally meet you Ian !
What a fantastic mix of cars!. Hard to pick a favourite but it would probably be the white Mk2 Granada
Thanks for including my “Minty Fresh” Calibra turbo 👍
Hey mate you got a thumbs up. Mark with the Mk1 Capri. And remember you gotta love a Cube!! 😎✌
@@bigdogcars3277 hey !! How’s it going ! Thanks 🙏 I see your Capri got a looksey too ! He was loving your delivery covers on the back seat wasn’t he . Was a great day Mark and hopefully will meet again . And yes very much want to see the Cubes again
@@stevendennis2522 Next years Retros is going to be massive mate. Can't wait. See you there 😎👍
Only 3 minutes or so in and I'm laughing at the sight of someone having put together a Los Santos Police Department cop car!!! For those that don't know, the LSPD is from Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and GTA5... :P
I loved that as well 😂😂😂 I don’t think Ian is a GTA player 😁
I would have been tempted to steal it and drive it straight through the hedge. As a short cut.
Yes we created it @essexnypdcar and it's in the hands of a very capable and doting new owner. One of the last ones made in April 2011, originally from Massachusetts.
Great to see some Consuls, Zephyrs and Zodiacs.
I'm really getting a liking for Mk2 Capris.
Those American Public police cars are amazing especially the white Plymouth Fury.
TVR Tasmin 280 very wedgey.
Lurvley big Fiat Chroma.
Brilliant as always and full of detail!
I really really like the styling of the A40 Farina
Very nice turnout of vehicles. Nice Show!
That Secma QT500 Fun had a towbar fitted. :O Joyous! :)
Fantastic show and report. Bond minicar moment was hilarious. Thank you 😁👍
It's a 1955 Mk C with a 197cc Villiers engine. Best car at the show for me.
"Do not tell Miss Hubnut".....yeah okay....good luck with that one Ian. LOL.
What a great show. I loved those Saabs too. Looking at the rims the Lambo was a replica. Alfa 75😍🍀
Lots of great vehicles here. Car of the show: the black Mirafiori Sport (at 8:26), but only because I used to own one ('82-'87). I really liked the VW Splitty with the safari windows.
Always enjoy your walk arounds like this Mr Hubnut.. Great knowledge I always learn something.
Love the Opel Rekord and the Ford Taunus, dream cars for me
Delightful report! Last saturday there was a classic car meeting in the village where I did grow up (Germany, Kressbronn am Bodensee/Lake Constance, public bathing beach). The last one was two years ago because of Corona desaster and lockdowns... This place was quite overcrowded of people and cars and the weather was fantastic - wonderful. Live is good in certain moments...
Nothing like a Hubnut vid on a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee! Thanks Ian!
Since watching hubnut videos the eye for finding rare sight vehicles gets to you. Especially when you go to a major event like the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone and get excited over old cars including a early Citroen Synergie 2.0i owned by one of the track marshals.
Los Santos PD "Obey and Survive" I'm pretty sure that's from Gran Theft Auto: San Andreas.
It is and GTA 5 very cool idea.
What a Wonderful collection of cars..! Nice Work, thx for producing it..!! 😎
33:52 I've had three of those. They're getting exceedingly rare now, at least here in Norway. Thanks for sharing this event with us, Ian.👍
The “Mach 1” you saw was a sportsroof, and not a fastback. Mach 1’s were always fastbacks. What you saw was a nicely done tribute. I’d really like to come to the UK and spend the entire time doing car things. Thanks for the great video. Cheers.
lovely, thanks for making
Relived I'm not the only person who says Come On Brain out loud!
What a great selection of cars on display, think that's the most mark 3 fiestas I have seen in a long time, but I approve of the Mark 6 Escorts on display.
Hi Ian thanks for sharing the show and a great walk around the drifrent car's,
Very Nice video! Loveley mix of diffrent cars 😃
The Blues Brothers is a must watch film. Held the record for the biggest car chase. I don't know if any other film since has crashed more vehicles.
A quality video hub nut. great vehicles. thanks, just like being there.
Thank you it was great to see all the lovely car's. I had a Vxl Cavalier 92K never liked the Ride&handling. Before the Cavalier I had a Nissan Bluebird 1.6LX saloon T72 1989F in green metallic. My Ivory Beige Ford Orion 1.6GL 87D overheated.
My little alfasud made a brief appearance 😁 if you’re ever back over this side of the country and fancy taking it for a drive let me know. You’ve done a sprint and a cherry / arna, both with snorty twin carb engines so how about a much more Hubnut spec single carb 4 door? This year marks 50 years since they were unveiled at the ‘71 Turin motor show 👍
Alfasud
One of my favourites at the show!
@@romac9516 it took me about 10 years of looking on and off to find one, right condition, right colour, right model, right price. Somehow all the stars aligned and I finally got one!
@@retr0naut823 Thank you! I love hearing people’s memories of them, I get so many comments from people who haven’t seen one for 20+ years, especially a ‘normal’ family model, not a sporty Ti / cloverleaf.
I,ve had 3 back in the 80,s , cant forget the lovely handling , I did not realise how many were left until I googled alfasud for sale!
Great looking event and very well documented. Thanks Ian 👏
Pauline Cole asked, 'Where have all the cowboys gone?' Hubnut asks, 'Where have all the Nissan Almeiras gone?' 😊
I traded in my Almera N16 back in June. Coincidentally I parted with it in the same county where this event took place.
There are three in daily use within two miles of me.
My dad had one, the sills rusted while the car was quite young. They are NOTORIOUS for corrosion! There is one near me on a P plate with VERY patched up sills!
the Cop cars,, blues brothers,,,, ,awesome
Thanks Ian very enjoyable video as always but what a selection
The variety is insane
The front design of the Trident looks so much like a Corsair with the indents over the headlights. Beautiful car
A Morris pick up..WOW i'd love that and the Mini 30 my two favorites of the Show
The fiestas got 9k on it, that’s my mini, still looking for some bumpers as the ones I have aren’t in great nick! Awesome too see my car in a video
I've seen the Sierra based P100 flatbed (parked next to Giselle) before. I have 2 photos of it on my Flickr photostream.
Nice to see the 1983/84 Vauxhall Carlton 2.0i CD near the very end. My parents owned a slightly rough but reliable 1986 D reg 2.2i CD auto in navy blue in the mid 1990s. The torquier 2.2i engine replaced the 2.0i in 1985. Loved that car, had driven it a few times after I passed my driving test. Wall to wall velour inside and so comfortable. Velour upholstery ought to make a comeback.
My favourite car the is probably the brown mark 1 Cavalier.
Great video Ian some great memories of cars gone by have to say some people arriving look so miserable when a camera is pointed at them suppose to be enthusiasts club is it not oh well.
Excellent video and it looks like you had a good time 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
One of my sister's had a beige Orion Automatic in the 1980s, but it just rusted away before our eyes. 😂
Excellent Cavalier fact!! 😎
Great to see my old Peugeot 106 Rallye on this video . I owned it till about 2013 I think , had hoped you would take a closer look at it
Crown Victorias with the police package were generally badged as "Police Interceptor" on the trunk lid
Ironically, except for the ones with the SAP, Street Appearance Package which didnt.
6:36 Your Finnish viewers might appreciate the Mondeo being Spedeworth.
This one used to be used foxhall stadium. Speedway, hotrod, banger track.
@@AllanLibert-Simons I thought I recognised it, must have been a fair while ago.
About time some 131 action mine will be on the road next year
16:12 Everytime a see a Cinquicento in that colour, I recall the bus stop scene in The Inbetweeners!
Fear not Ian, you are not alone. I've never seen Blues Brothers either.
What a fantastic turn out!! Great video
Saab’s!👍 Funny an e21 bmw caught me out on a railway crossing bridge years ago, what a hoot.
There are 2 of the Ford badged Mazda pickups in our village, seems they're very popular with the farmers!
I never knew the Mk1 Escort was available with such a small engine! Must have gone like an asthmatic donkey!
The at Falcon ute is not standard. I wonder if it is a South African one? I don't remember ever seeing that small panel on the B pillar.
The front quarter panels (wings) are also different. Missing the wraparound parking lights/blinkers and also seems to slope forwards. Bumper looks off, too.
Looks like an XA with XB guards and bumper, and modern LED headlights (presumably for the indicators). The handles on the B pillar would be handy for push starting...
I had a 155 Quadrifoligo Verde. So much fun and oh so dangerous on even slightly greasy roads
thanks for the mention for my silly bug!
Absolute fantastic video really enjoyable well done 👍 👍
21:00 That's not just any F-150, that's an SVT Lightning. Supercharged 5.4 L V8 making 360-380 hp from the factory.
Blues Brothers (the original), is a great watch. It has a ridiculous car chase and some great tunes. It's perfectly family friendly too, the smut is minimal & all the bad-guys crawl away from their accidents (as they did in the 80's).
Avoid the sequels like the plague.
Some of the language may not be considered family friendly though.
You've never seen the Blues Brothers!!!???!!! That's verging on criminal! Promise me that it's a matter you'll remedy by the end of the year. You can watch it with the family - you'll all be rolling around the floor in laughter. On that Renault estate, I've never seen one, and indeed only ever seen one Fregate in Australia. As your camera got to the rear of the car, it's surprising how quickly it came to look like a Peugeot 203 estate. We did get some of those here. Cheers.
The Saab 99 was the first car to use the Triumph Slant Four in both 1703 and 1850 cc forms from 1967 until 1972 when Triumph launched the Dolomite. At which point Saab developed the B engine from the Slant Four
18:30 Marina pickup - had the number plate higher up - where the GB is on that one and it was hinged - so that if you had the back down the numberplate could still be read.
Always loved the Carlton wheels 👍
At 8:21 am, the black one is a 131 Racing (in the Netherlands at least), I had an orange with dark brown and black interior, great driver's car.
7:10 is the exact copy of the GSE I'm driving. Small sidenote, the mirrors and sideskirts were never in de cars colour from the factory. But that's just me being snobby :P Nice that there are more white GSE's around.
Find me a replacement wiper arm for the renault! Great report Mr H.
I enjoyed your comentary
The Blue's Brothers cop car is a Monaco, not a Polara.
Bugger I missed this one, only down the road and went to the previous meets this year. Could have got a cameo from my MK2 Consul!
Brilliant video Ian 👍
I recognise that blue Blackwell, I saw it at the Motorfest show that happened in Chelmsford!
