Glad to see you back! Noticed the 1st day you were hacked, I wanted to search for your Vittoria Barzo/Mezcal tire combo review to confirm last time if I should press "buy", and saw that there was no video. Also so glad you are doing content you are, literally the ONLY channel that does live measurements of everything, and gives some comparisons too.
@@LoveMTB I bought Mezcal front/rear, I ride mostly light XC, and gravel, so no need for Barzo. I actually "downgraded" from Maxxis Aspen, however on bicyclerollingresistance Mezcal despite being ~50g heavier per tire, should have higher puncture resistance, and also your video giving a good word from them was worth a lot, since you are Maxxis Aspen user as well. :)
I'm assuming these are boost wheels? Can't find any spec's on the hubs. Just want to make sure the boost hubs are different than the none boost with wider end caps. Thanks.
Hi there. I would like to upgrade my 29er set on my hardtail to save some weight. I currently ride on Dt e532 rims and oem hub similar to Spank hex hub. I really love that set of wheels it is very durable and reliable but on the heavy side.(over 2000 gr) how do you think Gnar will comper? Will it be to stiff on trail hardtail?
They might be what you're looking for. From the riding we did they did not feel too stiff, just right. The new rims are meant to do that, only reinforced around the spokes not everywhere. Hope that helps
Nice to see reliable Chinese carbon wheels hitting the North American market. The workmanship of these wheels look amazing. The font and logos are nicely designed. And that high POE hub is a real contender to popular high end American hubs. Can’t wait to hear how it sounds installed.
Hey I know you weren't able to ride them with all the snow but I am curious how these are compared to the Pro36 since those are lighter but these seem more heavy duty? I would like the lighter wheelset unless there were definite improvements in riding characterstics with the Gnar TRAIL.
From what I can see these would be stronger, they are built like that, more impact resistant. Also pay attention to the hubs, the high POE is not for everyone but definitely more popular these days.
Just received them today and set them up. They held air overnight beautifully. Thanks for the code! The hub is loud but comparable to the Bontrager Rapid Drive 108s I replaced. Since the hubs are OEM, I hope they hold up! They appear to be very well made.
Are elite going to produce a 27.5 rear wheel for mullet riders? Without this option they are missing out on a large section of the market such as Levo owners.
Wow! Very nice looking wheels and a very competitive weight. My 29er DT XMC 1501's came in at 1661g ready to ride. The only thing that scares me with this wheelset is having just 2 pawls at a time lock in to move my 215lbs. I feel so much better with DTs 36T ratchets engaging at the entire face.... all that being said, these are very nice and the rims look awesome.
Yeah, I would go ratchet as well but I am pretty sure I9 has only one pawl engaged at a time so....they might not be too bad. Otherwise these look mint!
My question is about how easily are they to service? I mean, what sort of bearings are installed and how easy is it to replace them and the free hub? I would also like to know what sizes bearings are installed. Great review and it is tempting to get a set of these
Great looking wheels and another awesome video!!! Glad that you resolved the hacking issue,I wish those pos hackers would just get a real job and stop stealing from hard working folks!!! I hope the snow melts soon so we can get a review on those wheels...Cheers!!!
Thanks, great to be back! Pricing - I rarely talk about it in absolute terms as they vary a lot, depends on where you buy from, etc. However I did mention the delta to PRO wheels somethins that I believed it was relevant. Good point though.
These are pretty good value for light, strong and high engagment wheelsets. An equivelant wheelset from competetors would run somewhere around 2k. These come in under half of that!
Those look great and seems like they really engineered them to be stronger than most carbon rims. The hubs are definitely better than whet come with most complete wheel sets. Measuring i30 has become the new standard on most bike models these days and will accommodate the more aggressive 2.5-2.6” tires with ease. Thanks for sharing
Personally I’d choose these over the other wheels that they offer. The weight is a marginal difference and the benefits of the stronger rim and high engagement hubs with a standard pawl system that is probably serviceable seems like a better choice.
Good presentation, as always. Personally, I think this high-POE-hype is counterproductive. In this case, at any given time only two out of eight pawls are in cotract with four out of 80 tiny teeth (5%) of the drive ring. I prefer to rely on Star Ratchet technology, where every single teeth of the ratchet are engaged every time, all the time.
Yes, you are right. However others only engage one pawl at a time... I like ratchet for the simplicity, they served me well and see to be very reliable.
Wow. What an ordeal. Details and how to avoid might help some other poor soul from suffering the same fate! Now for the wheels, I saw those a while back. Found it interesting that they flip flopped with increasing hub engagement but backed away from center lock brakes.... Was it a $ issue or something to do with technology of accommodating heavier bikes & riders in tougher conditions?? Maybe both issues weighed in?
It's got to be both, these guys make their own hubs. I don't know all the engineering details of center lock vs 6-bolt but I assume that is only because of the fact that many just dont like CL. I would say the majority of people of they had to choose they would go 6-bolt. High POE is probably just so they can compete in another market segment and 2-pawl engagement vs ratchet can be because is the only way to get high POE and also withstand the high torque of the eBikes. As for the hack...learn everything you can about physhing and social engineering attacks! And be very, very suspicious even when it seems like you're having a conversation with someone.
@@LoveMTB I love center lock, but I guess its a personal & tool availability decision. In my discussions with EW they didn't seem interested in a higher count ratchet system even though the DT 54 is so effective. I guess they thought 320 beats 54? Lol. The hack fest is a real problem, besides being wiped out, creating ill will, suspicion and trust issues towards anyone that contacts you regardless of intent, is real aggravation to everyone. Which is the other side of the hackers coin. Stress less, ride more. It helps.
For RUclips/Gmail and really any other service, the most likely secure method, although it can be a pain to setup, is to use something like YubiKey's in place of SMS/authenticator apps for MFA. It costs $$ and you should buy two (about $110cdn, primary/backup) and you set them up as the only MFA option. Be careful though as if you lose both keys you're locked out. It will protect you against things like password hacks or key loggers. I set this up after the LastPass hack but like all security it needs about layered protection.

They are definitely BOOST spacing, 110 front 148 rear
Hi, if comes to vertical compliance, which in your opinion have more flex, gnars or pros 36?
I would probably choose the Pro36 between the 2
@@LoveMTBthanks, I'd pick pros 36 then, ratchet hub and slightly lower overall weight also support this choice... And less $ too...
Any long term update on how these wheels are holding up? Specifically curious regarding the reliability of hubs + bearings
Cheers 🍻
Riding those wheels today, so far so good 😎
