- The Riving knife is the your first line of defense when it comes to preventing kick back. As far as I can see there is no reason mot to use a riving knife. In this video I'll cover why to use it and how it works. If you have reasons not to use one please tell me in the comments.

Excellent tips, Andy! Thanks! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays!
Thank you! Same to you!
The riving knife is an absolute must on the table saw. Outside using a dado stack, I cannot imagine any circumstance where it’s not a superior safety benefit. Your looking good Andy, no more punching objects harder than the bones in your hand 😉😉
I agree and thank you! Thanks for watching.
Good advice. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I don't use my riving knife at all, but I do alot of things on my table saw that most people don't.
I do however absolutely make sure that my blade and fence are dead on parallel when I do make rip cuts. Most people just take for granted that the fence is square to the blade when they lock it down, I check with my machinists ruler and get it dead nuts.
Another good practice is to only use as much blade as needed. I see people have that blade up 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch above whatever they are cutting. It blows my mind, I have mine about a 32nd, maybe a 16th above the material.
I could go on about other safety things about a table saw, but it could go on for days lol
Those are all good! Just keeping fingers and hands away is good
I see so many videos from the US & Canada where the riving knife has been removed, along with the top guard.
I never see the former being removed in videos from here in the UK & the guard only removed when it interferes with a certain procedure.
Riving knives save lives.
Odd thing: Dado sets are non-existent here in the UK & my table saw can't even accept one.
I did a video on dado sets. Why are they shunned in UK? check that one out and let my know your thoughts. I’d like to know
@@epeiusgarage I think it's down to restrictions on their use commercially.
That & the saws available here generally have a short blade arbour which can't accommodate them.
Any time I've cut a rebate I've used my router table, or router & circular saw guide fence if the cut won't fit on the router table.
@@GARDENER42 dados make easy work. Thank you friend!
I want to put mine back but part is back ordered same saw as yours
It’s good to have!
My saw didn't come with one.
Oh wow, that would be a reason to not use one I guess. Was it made not to accommodate one or it’s an old saw and it’s lost?
Thanks for the info.

It's a 35-40 year old Craftsman.
It's being replaced by a Skil 10" that's sitting in my garage.
@@livinaftermidnight9651 oh nice. I do not think safety was not a priority 35-40 years ago lol. Thank you for watching and commenting. Hope you enjoy the new saw.
i have a ryobi 8 1/4 in table saw. the original blade got dull in short order , and i replaced it with a diablo blade which was just a little thinner . that made the riving knife wider than the kirf of the blade. ryobi does not offer a narrower riving knife and i have yet to find any good quality blades that fit my saw. other than diablo, so what your telling me is i should use my riving knife that is wider than my saw kirf and force it past the front edge of the knife thus putting the wood in a bind and putting me at higher risk of injury. ok bud , not subscribing to your channel.
No, I said tell me in the comments about your saw and why you would not be able to use it. I only have one saw. This is exactly the comment I was asking for, minus the rude “I’m not subscribing comment” but it’s a free country and I appreciate the feed back.
Have a good day.
