    I don't know if they could be considered "fidgety", but three of my favorite semi-fidget budget knives are my buck vantage, my spyderco tenacious, and my steel will cutjack. All have liner locks that I can comfortably close with just my left hand, and that's fidgety enough for me! Thanks for the great video, Jay!

    I have that SRM and am pretty impressed with it. You can round off any sharp edges easily on any G10. (I prefer a wire wheel on a Dremel for smooth or just a small hand file if you want some grit to it), and you can also round off the inside edges of the axis lock area of the scales. That gives the effect you are looking for with larger "buttons", without adding more bulk to snag on things. Also, the blade on that knife is one of the best D2 knives I have. It can take a crazy fine edge. Even better than an S30V knife I have it seems. After sharpening it my way, I can just hover this across my arm and watch the hairs launch themselves off.. Pretty amazing. I wish it had a flipper as that is my personal favorite combo.. (some kind of button lock and a flipper).. but nothing is perfect. If I had that I would be wanting it in 4v or something... at least it comes with a black blade which I also love.
    Also, if you want a cheap knife to drop closed, I have had good luck making about any budget knife behave like that with a little work. The fast way is to take it apart and clean it. Add some grease but mix into the grease some diamond polishing compound. Like 7k or 14k grit... and then just fidget with it for a few days... that usually gets them behaving like a high end knife in my experience. Even when they use washers instead of bearings. Great list. I will check out some of the links.

    Great list. Let's see budget fidget knives, got to go all the way back to the Y-START JIN01. Thumb stud flipper, running on washers now with a fantastic smooth deployment. Bringing the blade back home you have to use two hand and physically guide the blade back, no drop shutty on this one. Why do I like that over say the Houge Deka? I have been bit many times, but the old tried and true JIN01 has never drawn blood. Plus, it weighs so much if you need a boat anchor you got one in your pocket.

    I've got the bruiser in micarta. Super smooth. The swordfish is one of my favorite budget knives. I'm a fan of large blades so it's right up my alley. I call it the poor man's zt 0452cf. Everywhere you touch that knife is nice and rounded off, the flipper, the lock bar tab. And drop shut smooth. I've given the Ruike p801 as gifts, great budget pick. The dogma looks good but for fidgeting, the shredder can't be beat.
    Easiest knife to spydie flick I've ever felt. The mordax is a blast to fidget with, waiting for the malibu to come out again. Going up in price, the skaha 2 is so addictive, the action is dialed in perfectly.
    And what more can be said about the Koenig arius? It drops with a controlled smoothness that's one of the best. To close it out, if you like to fidget with a front flipper, I recently got an Artisan centauri. I used to own a boos blades smoke tm-1 but sold it because I couldn't flip the darn thing. But the centauri is a breeze, not to mention the drop shut action and such a gorgeous knife in every dimension. Blade, carbon fiber show side, and micro milled titanium lock side. Can't say enough good things about it. Got the s35vn version for $200 and absolutely love it! I could keep listing more knives but we'd have a small book. Great video Jay.

    Not to sound like a knife snob but I stopped buying budget and got rid of most. When I first got into knives there really was only CRKT, Kershaw, OKC Rats, Spyderco Tenacious, and a few others for decent budget blades. D2 was pretty much unheard of except on the Benchmade 710. Another outstanding video Jay! I'm pretty interested in that Sanrenmu. You could probably sand the scales in a few places to solve the issues you have including access to the lock studs.

  • @lenzielenski3276
    @lenzielenski3276 4 года назад

    I hadn't seen the Harnds before but I do have a Y-Start that looks amazingly like that. As you note, the springs were quite strong and on my variant the scales were abnormally thick so the release studs were barely taller than the scales making it really hard to disengage the lock. Normally I'd just do a judicious bend of the springs but I've tried everything from soldering iron and heat gun to solvents and can't get a couple of the screws out. My solution was to jam something in holding the lock open and tuck it away for a few months. Problem, sort of, solved. I really do love the look of the scales and for that alone its worth the purchase price.
    The SRM blade calls to mind some of the Turkish or Hungarian style blades I've seen where the curve of the clip point almost matches the curve of the blade. I sold my green Swordfish when the blue ones came out. I should have kept both. Having carried an Endura or Police for many years I don't find the size to be a negative. In fact, having more cutting edge is, IMO, never a bad thing.

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  4 года назад

      Yeah, Axis locks are my least favorite to disassemble, even when all the screws cooperate. You're exactly right about the SRM clip point. You just helped me realize why I like the shape of it so much, thanks Len.

The thumb studs however, are useless to me for opening and believe me, I've tried and tried but to no avail. Had the same problem with a Sanrenmu (don't recall model number) that I bought from Amazon and ended up returning it.
    As for my favorite fidget knife that I own regardless of price, I'd have to say that I have several different ones from several different manufacturers; Benchmade, Spyderco and TwoSun top the list. However, I have to say that I'm waiting for what promises to be my favorite fidget knife; the Orion Solaris which should ship in early February. It'll be my first ever button lock and it will have multiple deployment methods.

      Yeah, that Solaris should be a good time. Blade Banter (David) sent me one a few months ago and it was a lot of fun to carry. Thanks William.

    Hey, I mentioned that Honey Badger previously as being fidgety, can't agree with you more on that one.
    Besides that, I liked the Silkworm best.
    If the Dogma handle was a non-patina metal, I would have added that to my faves.
    I Loved fidgeting with the AD-10, and it's YUGE-NESS, which would be an oddball mention that may not seem fidgety due to its size!
    And, I wouldn't consider it budget, unless you compare it with the $600+ dollar Demko customs, coming in at more than a fifth of the cost of those.
    Thanks for the upload.
    Be safe.

    Just got the giant silkworm- love the way it feels and looks, but the action is bad on it. Had bladeplay so tightened the pivot a touch, and the action is bad now. Been messing with it for an hour. Does it need breaking in for good action? Or do I have a dud? Also the damn axis lock tabs are so stiff they hurt my fingers to engage them.

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  4 года назад

      Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that. Mine was good to go right outta the box. The lock is a little stiffer than a Benchmade, but not to the point of causing pain.

      The Knife Beater I exchanged mine for another, due to the lock being so stiff and bad action, and the new one is not much better. I hit it with some KPL, still not good. Any advice? Does it just need a ton of break in or what?

  • @redactedcanceledcensored6890

    Do all of these on the list run on bearings? I have never owned any pocket knife with bearings, can one lightly baton with them (generally speaking, I guess some really high-end knives with bearings can take it no problem)?

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  4 года назад

      Yes, they all have bearings. I know it's possible to baton with a folder, but I personally have not.

    As I mentioned on your small fidget knives video, I absolutely agree with your choice of the Honey Badger. If you cant satisfy your fidget needs with that knife, something is just wrong, lol.
    One other knife you may want to look into is the Civivi Aquila, which is somewhat of a higher end Civivi Wyvern, with both a flipper tab and a thumb hole. Although primarily designed as a flipper, I can get that blade to rocket out much faster with the thumb hole (which can also be used to slow roll and/or middle/index finger flip). In fact I dont think I have seen a non-assisted knife that has a faster deployment than the Aquila when using the thumb hole... its like the blade teleports from closed to open! However, rumor is that the Aquila is discontinued (but you can still find them here or there... get one while you can; they may be gone forever very soon). As an added bonus, the Aquila is not D2, lol (its VG10... the only VG10 Civivi I believe).
    Thanks for the video Jay, I'm going to check out those SRM Sanrenmu's :)

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  4 года назад

      It's to bad they discontinued it. i know these are different knives, but I have the WE Bishop, which has a very similar thumb hole design. That's probably the only reason I haven't tried the Aquila yet.
