I first heard of this song almost two months ago, and for some bloody reason, I can't stop thinking about it, and I keep listening to it. I guess that while we may not know the name of the song, we, or at the very least I know and think, it's a pretty good song.
Nah, but a radio station at a time with negligible quality compared to clear digital era stuff could have been the cause. Tape wear might have gone down too.
@@denisdubovik228If I have the correct information, the song was recorded alongside other well known songs. If it was tape wear, it would have affected these songs aswell and been easily identified as a factor.
Even though I am a country music fan, I still love this song. The original version is the best in my opinion, but I do like the tuned up version as well.
Is it possible that this is an early song from German synth band Camouflage? Their initial band was called Licensed Technology around ‘83 and they may have released stuff as Camouflage as early as ‘85.
I only discovered this song today and I've been learning about it all day, and I admit I thought it sounded like Camouflage too. They have the same style and the same broken English and accented vocals, but I don't think their music had this style of guitar in it.
Wonderful job here! I want to point out that everyone automatically hears "Like the Wind" because that's how the song has been titled so far. However, Darius (the person who brought up the mystery) may have been close when he titled it "Blind the Wind". It could be just me but I hear "Ride the Wind". Anyway, here's my guess for the lyrics which, as I understand them, make me think of a young German person trying to find a new place in a divided country. Ride the wind You came here running Take the consequence of living There's no space There's no tomorrow There's no sent communication Check it in, check it out Or the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway For sad things on your mind Ride the wind You're going somewhere Let our smile be your companion There's no place And there's no sorrow In the young and restless dreaming Check it in, check it out Or the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway For sad things on your mind Check it in, check it out Somewhere new Tear it in, tear it out With you
As a synesthete, there is always music playing in my subconscious mind. Now this song will stuck there for the next rotation. Thanks! It's a catchy tune, even for an old metalhead.
wow such a great song! I, for sure, would love to know the probably well known band in order to check out their other beautiful and certainly not deep mysteries rabbit-hole leading songs !
The person who taped it off the radio posted the entire cassette. So we do know, based on the playback speed of the known other songs on the tape, exactly how it's supposed to sound.
Here is my two sense, but I think this is actually a heartbreak song. Here is what I heard after playing the song and writing down what I have heard with bits of other interpretations thrown in: Like the wind You came here running Take the consequence of leaving There's no space There's no tomorrow There's no sense for munication Check it in, check it out Or the sun won’t ever shine Right or wrong anyway In the subways of your mind Like the wind Your going somewhere Let a smile be your companion There’s no place, And there’s no sorrow In the young and restless dreamer Check it in, check it out Or the sun won’t ever shine Right or wrong, anyway In the subways of your mind (instrumental) Check it in, check it out Or the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway, in the subways of your mind Check it in, check it out It’s the summer blues Tear it in, Tear it out For leavin’ me Check it in, check it out It’s the summer blues Tear it in, tear it out It’s a real excuse Check it in, check it out It’s the summer blues Tear it in, tear it out It’s a real excuse Check it in, check it out It’s the summer blues Tear it in, tear it out It’s a real excuse
The pitch corrects the lyrics but I don't think this is the original pitch. Someone played the keyboard from the original song and it sounded exactly the same.
Yeah, I know. I've since realized this does sound too high, but the singer's voice sounds right. I think the true pitch is closer to the one in the other pitch corrected version.

It sounds British possibly European Australian somewhat, it's much more clearer to hear in this version, when the voices are slowed from tape wear and age like on the original tms tape it doesn't help in identification, finding the singers country of origin through their accent by finding the right pitch could definitely help the direction of the search and hold a valuable clue.
A short lived band from Berlin who recorded this single in 1981 & only released 1 full length album in 1983. The song was not released on the album which is why even fans were not familiar with it. Anyway the song is called "Find The Wind" by Statues in Motion (aka S.I.M.)
@@blackhawksnbullsncubsnbear4615Well It's probably Deine Lakaien And the song could have been written in 1983, although the band was formed in 1984, which didn't have to be an obstacle to record a demo in 1983 for the radio, from what I've read it was recorded on NDR radio in the GDR, so the origin of the band and the radio where the song ended up could be right, the fact that they sang in English, it was quite brave, because the authorities, and even more so the Stasi, didn't like English, but politics aside. I think it was a demo that was made before the band was actually formed, and so I think This is what it could have looked like
Sounds Like classic nouveaux to me also another band who had a record contract but never made it famous, can’t remember the name but styled themselves on Duran

I've noticed that people hear the lyrics differently shown by black hawk's comment and lyrics I've found on genius and by another person who commented lyrics on this video
Now that the song was found (FEX - Subways of Your Mind), a somewhat higher quality version was uploaded, the original band made an acoustic rendition, and plans are being made for them to do a live performance, the title & info on this video ought to be changed to indicate that it was theoretical since the pitch in the latest versions sound very close to what this was edited from rather than this re-pitch.
@@blackhawksnbullsncubsnbear4615 It's interesting, the voice does sound a lot more clear and "natural" and I can imagine what the person singing might look like. But the instrumental definitely sounds a lot worse and tampered with.
My interpretation of the lyrics: Like the wind, you came here running Take the consequence of leaving (living?) There's no space, there's no tomorrow There's no sent communications (or "There's no sense of ?unication", tho idk if there's such a word) Check it in, check it out, or the sun will never shine, Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind (there's a long dirty way?) Like the wind, you're going somewhere Let a smile be your companion There's no place, and there's no sorrow In the young and restless dreamer (though the last word sounds more like "dreaming") Check it in, check it out, or the sun will never shine, Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind, Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues; Tear it in, tear it out, it's the real excuse; Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues; Tear it in, tear it out, it's the real excuse etc.
I believe it was originally in E minor, and I pitched it to Gb minor. I just pitched it until the singers voice sounded like it was in the right octave.
Possible lyrics I'm hearing (Before looking at what others have put in the comments) Blind the wind / Like the wind You can't run / You came here running Shape the consequence of you / Take the consequence of this / Shape the consequence of Him / Take the consequence of living There's no space There's no photo / No such photo There's no sense communication *No idea cus syth kicks in" ...The sun wont ever shine *Loud synth making it hard to hear but I can make out "Sunbeams/Sunwaves make you mine" Or "Time to make up your mind" Blind the wind/Like the wind Your own summer/Your hearts slumber *Now I'm bored, I stop*
I firmly believe it is Christian Brandl. The song talks of sadness. Christian Brandl died in 1987. Look up the obituary. Look up Discogs on Christian Brandl that he died of suicide March 1, 1987.
Wrong pitch. I have the original and it's much slower too. It came out in 1984 and Like the Wind is not the name of the song. I'll post the name tomorrow and maybe some others can have a go at it until then,.
As I said, I could be wrong, but I'm just not sure that the singers voice is that deep. What I pitched it to sound a bit more natural. It could be a bit lower than this.
The song was likely mastered in different pitches, similar to the Beatles. We can say this song isn’t concert pitch, because either the synth or vocals are at different pitchs.
It’s almost too quintessentially 80s to actually be from that time period. Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to believe it is. It makes for a good story either way.
I was thinking that too. Could've been an experiment for an artist to try and release an 80's sounding song, and see if people really believed it was from that era. If this is indeed an experiment, then they did a great job at emulating the style. Sure has me and a lot of others fooled

We are too spoiled with digital music transfers. The tinny sound is just so awful now. It is so bad in the background, a sound in metal based tapes. The original definitely sounds like Alvin, but it also sounds crazy slow in certain parts of the song. However, if it is slowed down, it is a really short song. I really like Alvin's voice, only learned because of researching this song. It would be pretty cool if this song brought him back to life, even for a little while!
Am not going to tell myself l've heard it before,, it's got an early 80's Flock on seagulls sound and a bit of Duran Duran,, but ive never heard it.. its European for sure..
Contacting the station has been done. Contacting the DJ is more of a problem. It was originally thought to have been played by Paul Baskerville, who has been contacted. Paul has no recollection of playing the song, so it may have been a different DJ. I think there was another DJ that was believed to have been the one to play the song, but I think he is either hard to contact, or is deceased, I can't remember.

Dude at this point we need proof. Not calling you a liar but just saying that at this point "I wrote this" is not good enough. Find the actual original demo tape or some shit. Or any documentation from that time period.
@@choptop81 I think there has to be another person who recorded the song. I think it wasn't the main dj who played it but another one (gert timmerman) and there are recordings of his shows from that time. So it will just take time before we find out who at NDR played it. I think once we have the whole context in which the song was played more people will remember more about it, especially if they were affiliated with it during the 1980's.fact is though that many people can't even agree on at least who the singer is. It is pretty clearly Alvin Dean from Statues in Motion, but people don't even want to admit that or that he could have made the whole song himself. If I was to look for the original demo though I would start by talking to Gert Timmermans family or friends and seeing if he left behind any possessions or momentos. I would also see if he had any documentation (literally ANY) from 1984 that centered on what he was doing at NDR. The demo is probably in a storage locker his family has kept his stuff in I bet.
@@johngarcia1340 No one is against the singer being Alvin Dean. We just want the mystery to be solved and in fact one of the main theories is that it was a side project of Dean's that hasn't been fully documented. Unfortunately sounding alike is not enough, Dean is not the only vocalist to bear a striking resemblance, look at Sinking Ships for example. And Billy Knight has proven to be a flake and untrustworthy. If you have access to Gert Timmerman then you should try to get info from him. Or from Dean's family and friends. The wider community has no access to people connected to Dean/SIM besides Billy Knight.
@@johngarcia1340 And here's one more possible lead. Do you know if Dean was ever involved in doing music for movies/tv/commercials. Several people have pointed out that TMS sounds like something that could have been written specifically to play in the bg when a work called for a new wave song. Sometimes studios would commission musicians to join hastily put together fake bands that would record just 1 song for the work. And occasionally these would get radio airplay.
@@choptop81 Bill Knight nor Bouziannis (AstroDot) are flakes to be honest. The pro-german teens trying to prove the song was pro german didn't like hearing his greek Accent, and exerted a lot of prejudicial slander on him...period. If Billy Knight was really flaky or someone to discredit he could have legally filed to have the song as his seeing as to how it was a statues in motions song first and he is the only surviving member. I think he has tried to piece things together, but remember he left greece before 1984 for a while so any real idea about Alvin he has had to piece together from people he knew such as Bouziannis, or Yannis or whatever '80's dark wave band members were still around (like those from the Reporters) But honestly the BIGGEST mystery real is how it got played on NDR and by Whom. They say Alvin Dean went to hamburg and his demo could have floated around there and happened to get into an NDR DJ's hands. but there's no proof of that either. Ifonly we could get a snippet of what the NDR dj said before or after playing that song than maybe we could have an idea of what the bands name was that Alvin was playing under. I say Forward Music Quintet, but it could have been anything at this point. Speaking of FMQ I would like for Natassa Streusberg FMQ's keyboardist to be interviewed one day. I believe she is alive and accessible on facebook, because she replicated Billy Knights synth near perfectly for a previous song of his, when she was a member of FMQ. That means she could have replicated his sound on the unreleased Statues in Motion song " Like the Wind" as well. Don't forget that The band members of Forward Music Quintet are the former band members of Billy Knight's and Alvin Dean's previous bands before they were in Statues in Motion. EXCEPT for Natassa Streusberg.

It's now in C#m or Dm key... I heard only Bm key version and thought it was original. Thank you.

Ride the wind
You came here running
Take the consequence of living
There's no space
There's no tomorrow
There's no sent communication

Good work 👌 it adds a new perspective, it may also have uncovered a big clue, listen carefully to the accent change.
There's an accent change? What does that imply? I personally think it's British (UK) accent and origin, but I could be wrong.

Statues in Motion are from Greece, and they have been debunked for now (unless Alvin Dean ever comes forward, which seems unlikely at this point).

Not sure it needed correction, but it’s interesting to have an alternate version anyhow.
Quite a different voice when it's played at a presumably accurate speed.
It sounds more "pop" but I think it sounds sadder, especially the different pitch of the beginning
It definetely has some goth vibes
It's goth
New wave, post punk that vibes
Now that the song was found (FEX - Subways of Your Mind), a somewhat higher quality version was uploaded, the original band made an acoustic rendition, and plans are being made for them to do a live performance, the title & info on this video ought to be changed to indicate that it was theoretical since the pitch in the latest versions sound very close to what this was edited from rather than this re-pitch.
This is a good effort, but it sounds like the band is on helium.
Lol. Fair enough. Though I would at least say the singer sounds normal.

Nah. B minor is far more likely to be the key it was written and played in, going by the chord shapes on the guitar.
