It’s I weird that the most mysterious song is my favorite song?
Its my favorite too, there's just something about it that makes it stand out compared to other songs!
Helios the Dracobox: I agree.
How do you edit someone else's comment?
Me too except I go deeper with this song
@@sammytimgaming2947 Same
Question I have: What if it was a one-man recording project by a talented but unknown individual who subsequently did not have or pursue a
musical career and has since died? Isn't that a possibility? Seems like such a scenario could explain various aspects of the mystery.
In 1984 most people who weren't at least somewhat professional wouldn’t have owned a synth like this. This was run through a Yamaha synthesizer that cost easily as much as a car.
@@lizgoldstein4256 Not everyone could afford a synth like that. Shit was expensive back then.
@@chrish4nsen that’s what I said when I said a synth like this could easily cost as much as a car.
@@lizgoldstein4256 Maybe the band borrowed it. Like, "hey rich friend, can we record a tune with your expensive instrument for our song? Thanks."
@@YannY1150 I suspect this song originated from East Germany, the arrangement sounds very GDR-ish, and the lyrics can be interpreted as the singer being born into a system where he doesn't want to be, can't tell anyone about his feelings and has to make do, pretending everything is fine and searching for some short moments of joy. This is exactly what life was like for many young people in East Germany in the 1980s.
As for the equipment, even pop music in the GDR was always professionalised, so "garage bands" were very rare. I think that song was made by some background musicians who did music for mainstream pop / schlager, and they composed and recorded this after work. This would explain the availability of professional music equipment. This song then somehow got in the hands of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk who aired it.
That's an explanation for the missing band / artist on the tape, because these lyrics could get you in trouble in the GDR.
this singer may be dead. this makes my heart hurts :,(
I mean, the song is from the late 80's. If we kick off he was around 20 at this time, then he would be like 50-60 years old today. So i don't think this is the case
@@The_Copper_Element_Itself If the singer wasn't dead, he would have claimed this song already.
@@SergeantExtreme I don’t think you realize that this is still a relatively small investigation that has only been on 1 major newspaper. Maybe the “50-60” year old singer/band don’t use social media and have no idea that they are being looked for. From their perspective, it may have just been a song they made and had it air once and they all forgot about it.
@@Seeker_903 At the same time it could also be someone like Christian Brandl who died in 1987. And no, it's a completely insane and absurd notion that someone could ever forget a song that they wrote.
Understand that the band would have been practicing this song for *weeks if not MONTHS* before going to the studio for a recording session. And even then, once in the studio, they might spend days if not a full week playing the song over and over again until they got it right.
You're not going to forget something like that no matter how long ago it was.
@@SergeantExtreme *it is* possible to forget something like that. Many performers have forgotten songs they have made in the past. If you make a song that you have been or practicing for months like you said just for it to not even become popular in the long run, they probably abandoned it. I mean if they really didn’t forget it they would probably try to promote it again or at least make other songs to get a real name in the music business (which they didn’t as far as we all know).
Also you can forget something but remember it later if it is brought up, hence the idea that they might not have social media to see that everyone is talking about their song which would most likely jog their memory of making it.
Best remaster hands down

The song is "Subways of your Mind" by the band, FEX!

I think we should start a campain to get this song into air on most well known radio stations around the world. Surely when a lot of people get to hear this masterpiece, they'll try and investigate further. It may also encourage original creators to step out and open up, speak for the first time, and they'll of course have to prove they own the rights.

Hey Alex - it’s neither me, or Camouflage - take care and stay healthy ☀️

True. It's just awesome!
This is what I heard in the "clean" version:
Like the wind
You came here running
Take the consequence of living
There's no space
There's no tomorrow
There's no sense communicating
Check it in, check it out while the sun goes down outside
Have it all anyway in the subways of your mind
Like a wind
You're gonna suffer
Let a song be your companion
There's no place
And there's no sorrow
In the young and restless dreaming
Check it in, check it out while the sun goes down outside
Have it all anyway in the subways of your mind
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out
Is it really you?
This lyrics seems more "logical" or i should said poetic for me.
But I guess they are not the good ones. Cause I dont ear the same thing on this version, or even at every listening of the song.

@@AgentAAARTS I agree. Fixed.
@Liz Goldstein i think its "check it in, check it out, or the sun will never shine"
I always picture something like this or 1980's East Berlin.
There's no way someone in East Berlin could afford a Yamaha DX7. It would be the equivalent of buying and importing an American made 1983 Monte Carlo SS. Not even if used would this be possible. It had to come from West Germany.
@@SergeantExtreme definitely hear a Yamaha DX7 also huh
@@SergeantExtremeSolved. It was a northern German band.
@@lizgoldstein4256 Ah, it was FEX. Glad to see that mystery was finally solved. Crazy to think that their song became so famous, and yet none of the surviving band members knew how famous their song had become until the Keyboardist was finally contacted by a newspaper.
POV: it’s the end of the world and you are walking in a street now covered in rubble and debris, buildings covered in vines, and animals running around, you are looking for survivors as you listen to this.
While this is an excellent remaster, there's one thing that isn't considered very often. If this was recorded on tape, the recording we have is probably experiencing tape drag. Some of the remaining artifacts disappear if you bump the speed and pitch by 5.946 percent, the speed necessary to bump it up one semitone. I think that's the true original intended sound.
Such a haunting image to go with such a haunting song. This song is literally a ghost.
Feels like this band/person considered dropping the song, but decided not to in the end and disappeared without any official announcement whatsoever anyway.
Damn this needs more attention
A lot of creepypastas, strange radio signals and weird unexplained noises and recordings.
And the most unknown mysterious soundtrack of them all is just a simple genuine song.
It's like a group of serial killers making cryptic riddles to their crimes and the entire police force and media asks: Who the fuck invented the first knock knock joke?!
I think this is the best remaster job for that song.
The intro makes me feel some way, it just feels so nice. This song is so good, there's a reason why it's a mystery, but I don't know that reason.
This song exists in it's own bubble of reality, just like that one childhood memory of yours that you can't connect to anything in time or space. One day, someone in our miserable superconnected world will use it to time-travel back to 1984, where they will live under the stars, and their memory will fade into oblivion after their death.

I just played it and it blew my mind how good it sounds
It sounds much better than modern shit.
The reverb effect from the recording gives the song a "beyond our reality and the cosmos" vibe to it. The part where the singer says "there's no space, there's no tomorrow" along with the synth sounds increases that vibe even more.
yeah this isn't going to be solved, weird how something can just vanish from existence like that.

taeshooky It sounds clear but I wonder if people can find the correct lyrics now
VipQueenLover123 it depends on the person
It wont ever blow up, it's a niche meme song
Damn! So impressive how you managed to add more clarity to the song, while keeping the bass high. How'd you do it? Am curious
Sounds like he cut a lot of low-mids. More like around 180-250 hz and boosted a little the 2-4khz region + 10khz and up for the clarity. The bass can sound higher when there arent too much low-mids to mask it.
Fr. I can listen to the bass so well
I believe he's saying
"paranoid anyway in the suff'ring of your mind"
instead of "subways" his accent makes it hard to understand but suffering of your mind fits the song more, makes it make sense, and ive extracted the vocals before and he's defintely saying that
(and this is a really good remaster btw)
Edit: nvm this aged poorly

To me, it sounds like the singer has a slight German accent when singing on some of the words. I think this might be something someone recorded in the former GDR.
As someone who grew up in the GDR my immediate thought was it sounds like it's from the GDR. It'd explain why the creator is unknown to this day, as well as the writing style of the lyrics (there's a lot of obvious but still vague enough hinting going on so that it could pass govt censorship inspection, without him ending up in prison. Bands like Silly and many others wrote the same way, even Viktor Tsoy in Russia). There's endless such "lost" recordings still popping up decades later, from GDR as well as other former soviet bloc countries, in some cases the original masters are lost and only poor quality rips exist.
@@DOOMGENERATION I’ve been doing some research and I think it could be Christian Brandl’s work. The voice fits. He passed away decades ago, which is why he wouldn’t be able to claim it was his. But then again, I don’t think this mystery is meant to be solved. That’s what makes this song special.
@@lizgoldstein4256 never heard of this dude you speak of
I have two theories:
1. It was recorded by this band, who are time travelers - ruclips.net/video/dRCI9oAxeNg/видео.htmlsi=mUylcS7ZZ4mH15MV
2. A really good local band got a one-time really good hookup or pulled some really good strings. As unlikely as that is for a nationally broadcast show, it only had to happen once. And while the recording is really good (made during a pre-digital era when recording was NOT cheap), I think they could have certainly pulled off this one song without “breaking the bank.” But my time travel theory is better 😎
This version further supports my idea of a tank crew in a war, soldiers running, checking in to command, sun going down outside, and wishing to be home in the summer.
Maybe the meaning behind it who knows

Quick music terminology tip:
The word "master," when used in a musical setting, means the final recording of a song; therefore, a "remaster" requires an entire re-recording of the song. A more correct title would be a "remix," because remixing does not require a new recording of a song, but mixing the song again, which appears to be what you have done.
The definition of re-master "to create a new master of especially by altering or enhancing the sound quality of an older recording"
No re-recording necessary for it to be a re-master.
My theory: Alvin Dean, from Statues in Motion, with Forward Music Quintet providing background music and guest Guitar by Yannis. "Like the wind/There's no place" Created in 1982 first by Statues in Motion for their debut album, but not included in final pressing. After the break up of Statues in Motion, Lead singer Alvin Dean attempted to join up with Forward Music Quintet after they had two members leave (the vocalist and guitarist). He and the Greek Guitarist Yannis tried out for the band and all of them were able to re-record "Like The Wind/ There's no Place" in 1984, using the brand new Yamaha DX that the band's keyboardist was able to purchase after doing a dozen shows around Greece with New Order. The new Keyboard allowed the Keyboardist to replicate and enhance the twangy synth noise of Billy Knight's from Statues In Motion's 1982 rendition of 'Like the Wind.' Subsequent to this, the Female keyboardist did the same in a previous Forward Music Quintet album where she previously replicated Billy Knight's synth from the Parthenogenesis song "I will not apologize" in 1983. The drumming in "Like the Wind" is nearly exactly as the drumming in the 1984 Forward Music Quintet's 1984 album and is provided by a greek drummer nicknamed Von Claus, who was also, surprisingly, in a previous band with Alvin Dean. The Guitar Riff in Like the Wind is a combination of the band Fra. Lippo Lippis's guitar riff from the 1981 song "The Inside Veil" and the guitar riff from "Hit me with your best shot" from Pat Benatar in 1980. THAT'S WHY THIS SONG SOUNDS EERILY FAMILIAR! Combining early 80's sounds with the most modern synthesizer in creating and releasing the song later on mid-decade, has actually contributed to a lot of problems in figuring out the origin of this song, as well. It seems Yannis must have kept some demos from their FMQ Session (That's why he has a sample of 'Ghosts' with Alvin Dean singing with background music identical to Forward Music Quintet's 1984 album!) Alvin Dean and Yannis did not join Forward Music Quintet, though, with Alvin Dean moving to Germany for a while and most likely, also, taking demo copies of the new 'Like the wind' with him, where they were able to be eventually somehow someway, played on NDR in Germany. On NDR if Alvin Dean's demos were titled under Forward Music Quintet (which they should have been) and with FMQ having a couple of members with german sounding nicknames, the German NDR DJ could have been thrown for a loop and played the song as a demo thinking it was an amateur German band. Whether Alvin Dean, Yannis, or Forward Music Quintet ever heard their song play on the radio in 1984 in Germany is not known.
If that's true that's an amazing bit of analysis.

The song is most likely a hoax. The song may have been recorded in 2005 or 2006. The composers may have leaked it online to see the reception. They went on different forums and started asking help. As time passed some noticed but nothing happened. In 2019 a lot of effort was put in making this song viral.
The song despite being good sounds like a generic 80s song. The music instruments are crisp but the vocals sound wierd. The vocals aren't easy to understand. That could have been done purposely by the group who made the song.
I think one of the composers knew about the German radio stations as he was a guy who heard radio and most likely recorded songs. One of the composers may have had a huge cassette collection of recorded songs. The group came up with an idea to make the song viral. Maybe its 2 min of fame.
Even the bluueey profile is handled by them. The fact that even the NDR people have no clue about the song means the song never played on radio otherwise someone would have atleast recognized the tune.
I dont know if the band has any other motives.
But you have to think about this from another perspective. That's a LOT of time and dedication just for a troll/hoax... first they had to compose an ENTIRE song with a band, make it sound like a legitimate 80s style song, then produce it, get it to air on a radio station for someone to record it on a cassette tape, take it to a forum board, and hope it goes viral a few years later? You'd have to have the same amount of luck that Dream has in his world record speed runs.... not to mention the fact that the team has a pretty solid lead on the dude who might've been the vocalist, and the bluuee account is owned by the sister of the guy who recorded this, not the supposed band like you theorize. Also you have to remember that we're asking people who worked at NDR *many* years ago, to remember one song on a station that aired probably hundreds of small bands back in the day.. if you worked there at that time I bet you wouldn't remember it either if you were asked today. I'm not saying that it *CAN'T* be a hoax, but I'm very sure personally that it isn't.
No, their theory is it was NEVER played on the radio. The rest is just internet fakery. Easily done.
@@z̈q or the "recorded from the radio" bit is part of the hoax too.
Update: Since you wrote your comment, someone has found a semi-professionally produced tape (called BASF 41) with this song as one of the tracks thus proving that it's not actually a hoax.
I hate to be that guy, but...this isnt even a good song. If not for the mystery no one would care.
people have different opinions
just because you don't find a song good doesn't mean that everyone on the planet will agree with you
I honestly find the chilling tone really something special.
i respect your opinion, but even without the mystery, this song is awesome
Your first sentence is false, your second (unfortunately) probably true.
@@max-dy3vs unfortunately, like the band the sinking ships people discovered during this one's researchs, their songs are awesome but unfortunately not many people know them
underrated is the word
