As a pentecostal, I love the Unction! Some of my favourite discussion in Preaching and Preachers!

    great video!
    time stamps on points:
1:58 Too boring (too personal) --expound the bible
6:10 too long--undisciplined (edit, outline before)
    8:17 too short-(nervousness)- write out a manuscript
11:28 repetitive-be expository. let the text communicate
13:24 shallow--get into the text and the commentaries
16:20 lacks application--go be with your people
19:15 lacks unction-- prayerlessness in preparation, don't blunt the scythe
21:58 nervous ticks (ums, uhs) -watch yourself on video
24:53 overdependent on manuscript--often perfectionistic, have not spent enough time with the sermon, preach it out loud alone
28:20 phony -use your own voice. be real
30:53 nervousness/timidity--center and be calm, breathing, look to those who give you positive feedback visually

Loved the final tip about Finding the "safety people". That is very wise.

Every preacher/teacher should watch this video. And if you get nothing else, please focus on exegesis of the scriptures ❤

Outlining is really important. Every time I’m having a Bible study with my fiancée I end up getting really excited and throwing everything that pops into my head at her along with stuff I’ve read in Mathew Henry’s commentary. Many times it overwhelms her and I end up having to slow down and reiterate the main points.

Thank you - this is a subject very close to my heart. I completely agree with most of what you said, I do agree with what I did not completely agree with. I would like to throw out a few extra thoughts from someone who has been in the pews for over four decades.
First: I cannot agree more with you about "personal" stories. Preaching is a serious responsibility; humor and interesting anecdotes have no place in a sermon.
Second: Working in a profession I learned early on to communicate a fact or argument coherently, moving from the salient point to supporting material using as few words as possible. A sermon should not be modeled after a Paul Harvey radio broadcast.
Third: My relationship with the infinite creator of all is at least as important as my work, my hobbies etc. A preacher should not believe he needs to dumb down a sermon because his listeners really aren't interested in hearing a solid exposition of Christian truths. Do not fearfully avoid using theological terms. When in college we were awash in terminology we previously unfamiliar with. Instead of shutting down we learned what the terms meant. I have often found mastering the applicable terminology is at least 50% of mastering the subject those terms apply to. If you give your congregation the idea that knowing applicable terminology is neither expected of them nor in any way necessary to Christian growth they will believe you to their detriment.
Fourth: While it may be appropriate to read a fairly lengthy passage of scripture to establish context it is generally best to limit the thrust of a sermon to only one to four verses - and construct your message based on what those verses address.
Five: Too many preachers have their hobby horses they will not willingly stray from. Of course such subjects as the Grace of God, The Holiness of God, The Love of God, The Glory of God etc. are vitally important topics they should not be preached to the effective exclusion of other equally vital topics. While I believe the gospel message explicitly part of each sermon the gospel message is not the subject of every individual passage of scripture. Preach the full council of God.
Six: I believe too much emphasis is often devoted to the application portion of the sermon. If the scripture is clearly and correctly expounded the application should be obvious.
Thank you for your RUclips videos. They have been both thought provoking and a great encouragement to me.

I wonder what too long is? My first associate job they had a goal of 25 mins. As a senior pastor I have pushed it to 55 and haven’t gotten complaints. I definitely have a hard time figuring out what to cut from my prep. Editing is a short coming for me for sure.

Improve the "Craft" of preaching? Please support it with scripture. Because the word "craft" in scripture is used in this context "craftiness".......what happened being guided and Holy Spirit inspired?
That's because none of you are walking in the Spirit, but your flesh........which means, this and 100 percent of so-called YoutTube teachers, pastor's, ministries are not of the Lord but Bible University, Seminary, Colleges granted "Degrees" which supposedly prove they are true Spiritual leaders for the Lord's Bride, His Church.....when that is totally a lie from the devil.
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

"Because the word "craft" in scripture is used in this context "craftiness".......what happened being guided and Holy Spirit inspired?"
      LOL! Words. They MEAN things.
      Good grief.

Words can only "mean things" if they are spoken in the Power of the Holy Spirit, as Paul, and the Lord has taught:
It's not funny, it's a serious teaching, therefore you mock God's Word, "thinking it is silly".
Rom_8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
Rom_8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom_8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
God's Words, are also my words.....
Truth will be offensive to those who know not the truth.

1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
Then you consider the Lord's Teachings along with His Apostles are rude and nasty, just as the Pharisee & the Sadducees also accused them of.
The truth will hurt and offend those who do not walk in the Spirit of Truth.
      Lord bless you....
