Back in the late 70s when they were playing on the London pub circuit trying to get signed, they had a mask on the wall with a small pump and tube that sat in the mouthpiece of the mask. They would play Iron Maiden and the pump would be squeezed to send fake blood through the tube in the mouth. So even with practically no stage to play on, they still had the theatrics to go with this song.

They were already a great sounding new, 80s metal band with Paul but became superstars when Bruce Dickinson took over on vocals. Every album under both singers is worth a listen, the song you are reacting to was originally on their first album, and is an utter classic.
