That was my first Iron Maiden concert. I was there at Rock in Rio 2001. There was when I fell in love with Iron Maiden. Best live concert I’ve seen so far. And I have seen a lot.
Bruce, the lead singer, got some advice early in his career that he had to sing for the person in the back row as much as the fans front of stage. thats how he approaches performance. Just saw them this week in NZ. awesome concert
The "changes" you noticed in the song (and which are pretty cool) are in the studio version too 🙂 I would have LOVED to be in this crowd 🤘 Listen this one + Metallica - Enter sandman + Sweet dreams (Marilyn Manson version) just before going to bed for a good night Maddy 😂 It seems it's my week, 2 in a row! haha 😎
he says in his book, never voice lessons. in school for the choir, was sent back with a note..rejected. he was hanging around a band and the singer could not hit let it be high notes so bruce helped. oh you are a singer. he did have an ex girlfriend who had studied voice and he read her notebook. later he felt if he was going to be aq singer he should study so went to the library and checked out books. he did do theatre in school and liked it, he likes telling stories. he has never smoked tobacco or done coke. he is a champion fencer so is very fit.. he is one of the 3 great metal voices, bruce, ronnie james dio and rob halford. none took voice lessons but dio played trumpet as a kid and credits it for helping his singing.
"I am a man who walks alone", It was all in his head, as sometimes happens with all of us. We can relate to the song and that´s an awesome reason. Glad you enjoy it and thank you for sharing.
Like fair dinkum-for those that know who Bruce Dickinson is-I leave this clue. He is simply the greatest heavy metal frontman who lived-to say nothing of his musical genious-he is also a fully qualified jumbo jetpilot-omg he flew iron maiden-around the whole f****** world-it was also top of his game at the he sport of fencing-he did come 4-at the olympics-absolute God-legend???-❤❤❤
A lot of stylishly really aggressive metal is about insecurities and vulnerabilities. That's why a lot of people relate. Sure, there is glam metal about being cool and all that, but those bands are the ones who use their music as a shield to conceal their insecurities. This here is about facing up to yourself and rocking out to it instead! 🤘🏼
Did not know the great Nico- mcbrain+received such a fate-❤ and best wishes to man,-search joy and happiness he has contributed to me get well soon my brother❤❤❤.
Bruce Dickinson (vocals) did not have formal vocal lessons as far as I know... He joined his first heavy metal band Samson in 1979 and recorded 2 albums w/ them ('Head on' in 1980 and 'Shock Tactics' in 1981) and his vocals were very raw in that band... He went by the stage name 'Bruce Bruce' and dressed like Freddie Mercury circa 1975... Dickinson's stage presence was inspired by British vocalist Arthur Brown, who was very theatrical and wore costumes onstage... He was also a huge fan of Alice Cooper, who was famous for his macabre theatrics onstage... Musically, he was huge fan of Deep Purple and their 2nd vocalist Ian Gillan. I believe he saw Iron Maiden live around 1979 when Samson did shows in the UK w/ them... Dickinson was very impressed w/ the band and their songs... and he wanted vocalist Paul Di'Anno's job early on... In the fall of 1981, Bruce Dickinson was approached by Iron Maiden's managers about auditioning for Iron Maiden after Samson had played a festival set... Paul Di'Anno (vocals) was out of Maiden and they had shows to play that year and a new album to write and record... Manager Rod Smallwood made 2 demands - he was to go by his name Bruce Dickinson ... and he needed new clothes to wear onstage 😂 Iron Maiden did the shows in 1981 w/ Bruce Dickinson on vocals and went right back into the studio to work on their 3rd album 'The number of the Beast'... But it was not an easy transition. Producer Martin Birch had worked w/ top-rated singers like Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath/ Rainbow)... Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) ... David Coverdale (Whitesnake/ Deep Purple)... and in the studio, he demanded that Bruce Dickinson produce that level of performance on his first Iron Maiden record... and it was a brutal learning experience to enhance his vocal abilities. But it proved worth the effort - 'The number of the Beast' charted at #1 in the UK and became Iron Maiden's first US platinum hit... Bruce Dickinson was immediately embraced by Maiden fans and they nicknamed him 'Air Raid Siren' for his high vocal range in concert. The other problem was that Dickinson clashed w/ bassist/ band leader Steve Harris onstage... Harris would play at the center stage and Dickinson felt that the singer should be front-and-center... So, Dickinson forced Harris to the side by moving his monitors... Harris did not take it well and tried to force his way back ... Dickinson then brought in a mic stand w/ long legs so if Harris got too close, he would trip up the bassist 😂
I know that young Bruce was in choir at school for a bit and when he started singing early days he was getting a lot of headaches and he’s ex girlfriend showed him how to position his tongue properly cause she was a somewhat trained singer then he read a book or something lol
It's a primal instinct to be afraid of the dark, it heightens your senses, that's what kept us humans alive for the past 300K years. One of the best songs from one of the best bands ever, and a great reaction to this awesome song!🤘
I get what you mean about the song topic. People often say about rock songs, that so rock and roll meaning it is tough or passionate in some way. This is more about vulnerability. Metallica's top charting song is about nightmares with a child's "Now I lay me down to sleep" but they make nightmares scary, particularly by making the subject a child. Because rock, like most pop, is aimed at 17 year olds the normal message is one of passion, and a lack of limits. So I have been interested in songs that are very not rock and roll in this sense. And I think you are right that Fear of the Dark has that quality. Maybe the clearest example I know is XTC's One of the MIllions with the chorus "I won't rock the boat/ Cause I'm scared what might happen" Perhaps the most non-rock and roll line in all of rock. XTC also has a song about not getting married until the singer makes enough money to support them both. Again the kind of consideration one doesn't get much in rock. Meatloaf's two out of three ain't bad is another example of a song about settling. Very different music than Iron Maiden, but similar in that it is not the usual rock Bat out of Hell kind of message, to reference another Meatloaf song which is much more rock.
Up the beautiful, melodic, sentimental and emotional, powerful, vigorous, daring, dramatic, epic, theatrical, and dynamic Irons!! All at once, mostly! That’s their signature and essence; very unique, and distinctive! And one of the great things that they are not a shitty, shallow, stupid, and unfair “one man show” lol Btw., it's not "what a baby" lol!! Usually maiden songs about existential experiences and pains, and usually they are metaphorical and figurative, with some literal things. Fear of the dark is an inherent and universal thing with different degrees and shapes of course, it's not just "what a baby" this is shallow lol! Most of us often don't live in REAL FULL DARKNESS at night like before, now it's mostly safe, expected, luminous, and visible environment. Also it has the metaphorical meaning of fearing the unknown and the anxiety of uncertainty, which is also inherent in different degrees and shales of course! I bet that you could say that in the middle of the jungle/woods/savanna at night 500-300000 years ago or whatever lol 😜, now a lot of people going nuts if the electricity shut down for a little while 😂😂
im has written songs about the life of alexander the great, european colonial wars against first peoples, the poem the rime of the ancient mariner, the crimean war. have read steve saw omen 2 and had a nightmare and wrote fear of the dark. they also do number of the beast about a man who sees a satanic sacrific and dance of death about a man drawn into a dance with demons.
Please take it personal. You are gorgous! You have really nice hair and a great personality! Call me one of the thousands but I love your videos. I don t care.

Best live band ever. Up the irons!
Another great song from the same concert is the Clansman - one of my all time favourites!
Bruce had no training in song, but he is a commercial airline pilot and an author plus a workaholic!!!
Bruce has never had vocal training but, he has done theater in the past.

: ) love from Minnesota
well, aren't women especially often afraid of walking around alone in the dark or being outside
It's not the, dark but what's in it.
Bruce can fly a plane and rouse a south American country. Bit of an issue there.
THANKS FOR THE COMMENT ❤
