The saga continues as award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve embarks on “Dune: Part Two,” the next chapter of Frank Herbert’s celebrated novel Dune, with an expanded all-star international ensemble cast. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Academy Award-winning “Dune.”
The big-screen epic continues the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed bestseller Dune with returning and new stars, including Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Wonka,” “Call Me by Your Name”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Malcolm & Marie,” “Euphoria”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning”), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Avengers: End Game,” “Milk”), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (“Elvis,” “Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood”), Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (“Black Widow,” “Little Women”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Thor: Love and Thunder”), Oscar winner Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter,” “Hairspray”), Léa Seydoux (the “James Bond” franchise and “Crimes of the Future”), Souheila Yacoub (“The Braves,” “Climax”), with Stellan Skarsgård (the “Mamma Mia!” films, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Being the Ricardos”).
“Dune: Part Two” will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Villeneuve directed from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts based on Herbert’s novel. The film is produced by Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Villeneuve, Tanya Lapointe and Patrick McCormick. The executive producers are Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, with Kevin J. Anderson serving as creative consultant.
Villeneuve is again collaborating with his “Dune” creatives: Oscar-winning director of photography Greig Fraser; Oscar-winning production designer Patrice Vermette; Oscar-winning editor Joe Walker; Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert; Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West. Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer is again on hand to create the score.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Present A Legendary Pictures Production, A Film By Denis Villeneuve, “Dune: Part Two.” The film is slated for a March 1, 2024 release in theaters and IMAX nationwide and internationally beginning on 28 February 2024, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

When the Harkonnens' feet lift off the ground, I knew this film was going to be something else.
Sameeeee
Exactly 💯..it might not be something 1st time done ever in sci-fi filmmaking but seldom have I got such edge of seat experience in theatre for a scene like that..
Right ! 😂😂
I liked when Paul saw them do that and went "THEY FLY NOW?!"
nice copy paste comment
Part 1 opens with narration by Chani.
Part 2 opens with narration by Irulan.
Dune Messiah will open with narration by Alia.
Love it!
cool point
i totally agree with you!
Facts.
It would be even better with Scytale or Edric, but given DV is focussing more on the Bene Gesserit probably Alia is the most likely. The Bene Tleilax and Guild are more Lynch's area
One of the best films I’ve ever seen in theaters!
This is the best squal to any sci fi film I've seen
@@legostudios953 blade runner 2049 is better. anyway love villeneuve

How many films have you seen?
@@reeeeeevo this year, only about 5 or so, but in theaters I’ve seen 30+
Really wish this was released digitally in IMAX aspect ratio 😪😪
Me too
It's basically the old tv format of 4:3, quite ironic that we are back at the beginning. lol 🙃
It was filmed on imax then converted to film and then converted to imax again for the grain of the film
You can also find viewings in IMAX and 70mm separately:) hope this helps you guys
Me too
"No shields!"
My guy trying to prevent a nuclear war.
Can you explain a bit more here? Not sure I understand why he yelled no shields.
@@husamstarxin4626 the shield is made of subatomic particles..so if a gun is used on a shield ..then it may result in a nuclear explosion ..that’s why they mostly use hand held weapons
@@husamstarxin4626 two reasons:
1. The shields attract worms and sends them into a killing frenzy hence why you may have noticed no one ever uses shields in the combat scenes in the desert, the spice harvestors don't even have shields on them for the same reason, however the Ornithopters (the dragonfly looking helicopters) do because obviously they're not touching the sand
2. As someone else already mentioned, if a laser gun hits your shield it causes a massive explosion of a nuclear proportion, the Harkonnen's were not sure whether they were under attack from Fremen with lasers or with maula pistols so it's safer not to use them in case someone's shield gets hit by a laser
@@Killerkwoi13 What a cool, subtle analogy pointing to the futility of using nuclear weapons due to the mutually assured destruction that would follow. Given when Herbert wrote these books, I bet that's what he was aiming at conveying to the reader.
@@Killerkwoi13 It would’ve been helpful if those facts were ever implied in the films.
That Harkonnen chant really hits your chest in IMAX.
sardaukar actually but yeah it does hit different
Nothing like it. I'm glad Denis and Hans continued this tradition from the first film.
@@mrspecs9211 Nah. They're the Harkonnen soldiers. Sardaukar don't bow to the Harkonnens.
@@Net_Flux He's referring to the sardaukar chant right in the beginning
In the next seen you see the Harkonnens chanting around the battle operations rooms but the opening is Sarduakar throat singing, or maybe it's Leto the Worm God speaking and it just sounds similar ...
The shot of the baron eclipsing the sun while levitating from his anti gravity machine was so menacing. That shot really stuck in my mind.
🤣🤣🤣
Right?? its these little moments that don't get enough credit! and skarsgard is awesome
“Filthy water. It's full of chemicals. But good enough for cooling systems” 😂
Yeah, it gave us a bit more insight into The Harkonnen, they even have chemicals in their water. Stilgar was a bit of comedic relief in this.
I think it's because the Harkonnens take pharmaceuticals, something that is foreign to the Fremen. Perhaps to help with the heat and sun they're not used to.
@Sk4M_.RangeroftheNorth And then they masterfully turn that comedy on its head when Paul becomes the Mahdi. Stilgar's faith wasn't funny anymore; it was frightening.
This is a reference to the Fremen metaphor of accepting someone into their ranks: "Your water will mix with our water."
So for them to speak of the unsanitary/chemically tainted quality of a person's water is a powerful statement against their moral character and the extent to which they are regarded as inhuman.
@@amanofnoreputation2164 yeah, very good. I never thought that deep about it but makes perfect sense.👌🏾

6:28
One of the most iconic scene in the movie and perhaps, in the history of cinemas too.
The eerie electronic music coupled with the orange brown lighting spectrum. This strange feeling brought you to the atmosphere of Arrakis itself!
Witness this masterpiece in IMAX is one of the best decision that I have ever made, not gonna regret that.
Thats a 100%. It was spiritual experience in imax
...I went to see it in IMAX 5 times 🤣
I envy you my man. I saw it twice and I’ll watch it again def.
Теперь бы еще найти название музыки, что играла в этот момент.
Oh, yeah. The Harkonnens. They fly now? They fly now.
Have I already watched Dune 2 three times in the cinema? Yes.
Will I watch this preview three times now? Yes.
As is written.
just noticed, at the start when Chani and Stillgar run to their respective positions, it sorta symbolises the divide between The Northern Fremen and Southern Fremen
Best theatrical experience I have had in my life ever. Also one of the best openings ever. Every shot Every camera movement Every character in this movie was like a gut punch. I'll never forget all my life. This is art at its best. I would like to see after the third part all three films' DVDs in the Criterion Collection closet.
6:28 chills everywhere
4:32 one of my fav shots. its like a painting.
It looks like the cover of a pulp sci fi novel, I love it
To me it almost looked like it came out of a Wes Anderson movie (in the best way possible).
I was thinking Lion king for some weird reason
@@Psalm144verse1
Yellow and sand, I know. Also a large protruding rock.
Anyone notice the similarities between the openings of I & II?
A Sardaukar message > A voice-over narration by one of Paul's wives > A shot of Rabban & the Harkonnen army > Outerspace shot of Arrakis > Title cards > Shot of Paul sleeping/dreaming.
👌🏾👌🏾
And a fight scene (with the same music playing) at the end.
I don’t think it was the sardukar throat singer this time, It honestly sounds like a guild navigator
@@colbykitto4597 (spoiler warning) it’s probably Leto II, the god emperor
It’s a sardaukar, the director confirmed it for both films. We dont even know what guild navigators sound like yet.
That opening Sardukaur line gave me chills just as much when seeing it on IMAX a seccond time as it did the first. Really thrusts you STRAIGHT into it.
Beginnings are such delicate times.
“ and the emperor said… nothing.” *chills*
Please Warner Bros. realease the film with the IMAX footage one day!!!
it's shame, why one day? If they could release it now days.
8:25 such a beautiful shot that barely lasts a second.
Very big shot for sure
The whole movie is basically made up of 1 second beautiful shots.
The cuts were way too fast in this way. One of the few things I liked more in Part One
@@Mike_v_E same. They had A LOT of stuff to cover. But it’s still a masterpiece, imo.
HOT TAKE: I think this is the best opening scene in the movies in this century. I love ir so much. Firstly, it's looks absolutely beatiful and very atmospheric. Insane shots. Insane soundtrack and amazing unique atsmosphere. It'a literally amazing scene for understanding this lore. Dramatic, epic, futurustic, complex and variety lore.
Secondly, before Arrakis, how they perfectly showed the Emperor and his reaction to Leto's death, it was very accurate. Shaddam loved Leto as his son, but still he strove for power and therefore killed him, which was very painful for him as a man. Walken did amazing job. Same like Pugh. Just 2 minutes moment, but amazing adaptation
Them Stuntmen really commited when falling off that cliff.👌🏾
This was actually insane in IMAX, so glad to watch it again
This glowing orange desert scene was visually spectacular
1:23 everything about the sound design is immaculate, but this moment always stood out to me. The burning of the Atreides symbol followed by this almost heavenly shot of the trees with that ethereal, almost alien birdsong is so poignant
This is such a peaceful cinematic nature shot!! With birds singing and than after the switch to the opposite, brutal cut from peaceful
I feel sorry for anyone whose first experience seeing this movie isn’t gonna be in an IMAX cinema, this opening sequence and the rest of the movie just isn’t done the justice it deserves without it
This is the GREATEST Cinematic experience in my ENTIRE life
Paul: *breathes*
Stilgar: "Lisan al Gaib"
As written
He knows the ways of the desert as if he was born in it
2:24 You can see the shadow of a moon falling on Arrakis due to a solar eclipse. At first I didn't understand what that black streak was, I thought it was some kind of exaggeration to describe the princess's words. Until recently, watch a Nasa video shot from outside the earth on the day of the solar eclipse April 8, 2024.
Yeah they depicted the solar eclipse, so beautifully in the movie. Just felt like a real one.

@@phil_animates_stufftony soprano: Paul Atreides is a hero in this house!
The very first bit hits different when you think of Leto II...
I knew Denis was COOKING when the movie began with Paul talking to his sister in utero
That part was so emotional and meaningful. There are so many layers. So poignant.
And the realistic detail in embryo Alia's umbilical cord. The blood is really flowing in extremely tiny veins. Quite simple detail but the work is meticulous. They could have just hidden that cord and focus on embryo's main body. It is not a documentary or a biology lesson after all. However, they showed it! In this way, they underlined how lively she is and the fact that life continues in the midst of death even more.
@@hypatia137What did Paul’s conversation with her mean (such as when he says “shouldn’t you back to the stars?”)
He means she shouldve died like their dad Leto or never been born bc the world/universe is beyond cruelty @@jimmyfaulkner1855

It's in a grim but sort of wholesome manner where he doesn't want his sister born into such a devastated situation by telling her she might as well "go back to the stars". (get aborted)
How could anyone suspect the Harkies of being bad? Their ships are shaped like a big heart! 4:32
*signs the Atreides battle code for “friends” 🫶🏻*
This opening scene with all The Atreides burning will haunt me for a long time. Such a cold, dark scene, no funerals, no family, just murdered and burnt lightyears from home!! I got some salvation when Gurney says he's helped survivor escape the planet, but why didn't they tell the Lansraad about this heinous war crime by Shaddam IV???
It wouldn't count as credible proof that the emperor was involved. You would need a neutral third party to confirm it.
Ngl this is better cinematography than in any Nolan film. Sure he’s the most well known with imax cameras but all the wide angle shots in this film was just wow
The way they glide up the rock so elegantly and falling so thunderously to the ground. It’s something so simple yet such striking imagery.
This scene with the Harkonnen squad is incredible .
The intro caught me off guard cause I went to a theater that started the movie immediately after the previews ended with no other adds it just jumped right into that chant full blast
This movie was everything beyond expectations I’m so glad I watched this in a cinema
From this opening, I knew I was in for something phenomenal. And after 3 times watching this film, I can say that this is one of the best movies I've ever seen.
I'm guessing these guys are the closest the Harkonnens have to a special forces unit. These guys are actually competent and they have good equipment. Even the Baron, paranoid as he was, would see the value of more highly trained and equipped troops to fight a war like this
I just love the thunderstrike at 5:10 and the menacing approach, with wind blowing sand across the screen. Pure art.
Why release it in 2:39:1 when TVs are already in the IMAX ratio. You're basically cropping the movie in half. Infuriating
I was upset when they did this with part 1 too, I do hope we get it eventually though 😢
TV's are not in IMAX aspect ratio. TV's are 16:9
@@kingpablo2720lol what tvs. You mean LED monitors?
@@kingpablo2720 still 16:9 is better than this
Not everyone prefers 16:9+ aspect ratios. I much prefer a nice wide 2.4:1 for cinematic titles. Seeing more is not necessarily better. Letterboxing and cropping in focuses the eyes on what is happening in the scene and what is important. Comes down to preference at the end of the day. Planet Earth BBC style documentaries obviously benefit from a full frame, and actually, IMAX was created for nature content in the first place. It depends what the director is going for. The vast vast overwhelming majority of films are released in 2.35-2.4:1. There's a reason.
You could also argue that 60fps is smoother, but every single film is released in 24fps. Its "more cinematic", as cringe as that might sound a lot of the time.
6:29 That reminds me of “Sea Wall” from _Blade Runner 2049,_ also composed by Hans Zimmer as well as Benjamin Wallfisch.
This whole opening sequence is just so iconic. You know immediately that this movie is going to be great. I’ll never forget how locked in I was as the tension ratchets up with those theater-shaking drums at 5:10. This is how you set the tone for a film. The striking orange color grading, impeccable cinematography, and Zimmer’s masterful score create a gripping intensity, making it an unforgettable introduction to the film. The amount of screensaver-worthy shots in these first few minutes alone is just ridiculous. Seen this film in IMAX 4 times now and I simply can’t get enough of it. It’s the perfect sci fi blockbuster and already an all time classic.
The parallels of the usage of flamethrowers throughout the movie is quite interesting. At the beginning it's Harkonnens burning bodies, by the end it's the Fremen. Also the Harkonnens falling from the cliff can't help but bring to mind the scene with them roasting the poor birds in the Cave of Birds.
We want IMAX version !!!
Florence needs to dub the little bits at every chapter start for the audiobook
Dear god. Yes.
shouldn't be hard to do with ai voice cloning. Input the audio file of all the clips in to an ai voice adapter output is her saying the stuff. the tech is out now
"in the shadows of Arrakis lie many secrets, but the darkest of them all may remain, the end of house Atreides." powerful, goosebumps opening scene. Sensational.
Movie of the Decade and Greatest Sci Fi Film OF ALL TIME
I was really losing hope on finding a movie that would enter my top 10 favorites in the 2020s. I’m grateful for Denis and the team who worked on this masterpiece👏🏼
Yes, Dune: Part Two really is that good.
Irulan be writing diary entries like classic novels.
6:28 Me and the boys on our way to the store so we can buy dozens of Dune 2 DVDs
Saw it in the cinema. Cinematic Sci-fi epicness!
Why only 2.39:1 on home release? 🥴
dv will relese imax blu ray prob in anniversary
6x in cinema baby!

"Karatcha Duusha" ("We're ok") LEGENDARY
That last part of the log where she talks about the secrets on Arrakis with the music and the eclipse is just cinematic gold to me. I love it so much.
Dune is the sci-fi that graduated college with a PhD. Star Wars is the high school jock that never grew up.
well said
I watched this twice in the theater. It's one of the best movies I've seen in so, so long.
Why
This 8:52 might be one of the best shots I've ever seen in any movie. So beautiful and majestic.
The sound is even more incredible than the visuals which is really saying something. In the theatre this was amazing
This is one of my favorite opening scenes in a long while
love paul and alia's relationship and so pleasantly surprised they chose to open the movie this way
They are tragic siblings
“BMMMMMM INNGG NNNINNG
BYMMMM NYNUUU NYDG-NDEEU”
You had to be there in IMAX. Best experience ever !
When you realise that both part One and Two opens with Sardaukars quotes, and that those quotes are in fact lies, deceptieve beliefs. Dune is in fact built to make you realise that dreams can be dangerous. That's why the only "noble" figure in part one, Duncan, says to Paul when he talks to him about his dreams "Dreams make good stories, but everything important happens when you're awake" as a warning to not be deceived by his dreams. Then the movies just reach another dimension.
One of those few sequels that’s better than its predecessor imo
Anyone else hear "Theo Von" at 4:35? 😂
Hahahaha
Listened to the audiobook and rewatched Dune 1 a couple times before the premiere. I did not want this sequel to end. When somebody says Dune 2 was better than Dune 1, with no strike against Dune 1, they mean it. First thing I said when it hit the credits "This is the best film adaptation of a book I've ever seen." I highly suggest if you haven't read the books, read Dune. I'm not exaggerating lmao. i want to go see it again in theaters. Not a clip wasted.
I basically look at them as one movie but you are right!
"Look for wormsign" love that line delivery
I LOVE how all the crazy Fremen devices, like the water collectors and the thumpers, were all done practically! They're of course impossible in real life but they have a strange logic to them. It feels like forever since we've seen real props in sci fi movies because it's so easy to build it in a computer. But Dune is in an analogue world so it makes sense to do as much in camera as humanly possible.
One of the best cinematic experiences ever, was incredible in IMAX
This film was a crazy experience in the cinema
At 7:49 you can see incoming rounds from the Fremen as Paul is looking up. Probably Stilgar and others using Maula Pistols. You can see Stilgar reloading at 9:39.
One of the best movies I've ever seen.
7:20 Really need this as a wallpaper. I hope there's a database or something with all frames soon because I need it in 4K.
1:31 The emperor said: nothing, you idiot! the emperor's dead, he's locked up in my basement
I remember at 6:28 on Imax screen got me wow so loud in silence
I’ve seen it 5 times; in IMAX 70mm x2. I Just cant get over it.
6:30 - 6:50 by far the best shot of the whole movie !
Those flame throwers are shockingly primitive for 30k years from now.
This was an amazing experience in theatres: hope they’re gonna release it in the Imax version as well eventually!
6:20 never fails to send chills down my spine ☺
That part where emperor is dead staring thinking about his decision to have Leto killed.... it's like he knew it was going to comeback and bite him
6:29 the intense goosebumps hit me so hard that I almost pass out in theater
I dont get it. It was shot for the IMAX which means it should be almost square, but this version is extremely wide. Too wide for my 16:9 computer screen. wth?
They wanna gatekeep the IMAX ratio for only IMAX theatres...very annoying...Hopefully in DVD/Blue ray the full IMAX ratio will be released. It should be.
This movie was almost 3 hours but felt like 30 minutes.
Man I want the water drain scene it cuts off right there I’ve been wanting just that scene since movie came out
It was the first movie that I watched twice on a theatre and with little time apart. Beautiful

I love the fact that there isn't an overindulgence of futuristic technology on display. Where the home planets are visited you see glimpses of the worlds, which makes it even more intriguing and captivating.
