The spongy shift pedal is a result of how all transmissions are made these days when the bikes have quickshifter/blippers. That spongy feel is the manufacturer mking you to compress a spring attached to the shifter mechanism in order to guarantee enough lever force to make the shift happen. The old days of aftermarket ignition cut style shifters tended to work well only at certain RPM, throttle, and engine load ranges, and most didn't work below 3krpm. Forcing the rider to put enough pressure on the pedal allows them to get the shifting smoother and more reliable over a wider range of RPM.
    Cheers.

Thanks Apurva - the heat is a little noticeable but the engine can breathe without a fairing. DEAL KILLER! How can such a great company screw up something so simple? Not to mention they COULD have sold a a bunch of aftermarket windshields save for their bizarre nonesensical engineering of that area! Compare to Yamaha MT-10 where an aftermarket screen or factory optional touring screen is so clean looks wise just 4 bolts and 5 minutes....and it is frame mounted like triumph too! Damn BMW and Honda mount the headlight and guages to the FORKS man I HATE that! hanging a touring windscreen is like a SAIL! I think KTM 1290 did it right .....if you can live with bug eye headlights ....well ALL the models have funky headlights anyway. BTW I SOOO would have bought the RR version of the Speed Triple except I am not into torturing my wrists and neck and Triumph engineers left NO possibility of raising bars as control lines have zero slack and there is no extra room in fairing....Had they just allowed for upgrading the ergos? THAT would have been my motorcycle! grrrr ....I mean I really like my MT-10 dont get me wrong but I think the Speed Triple is a better bike....but i INSIST on a real windshield and Triumph does not get that for whatever bizarre reason

The Ducati does not have the same usable power. Even the 2021 version suffers at low speeds.

@@kevinofishero Not sure where you get this perception from. I've just had a look at the dyno chart for the streetfighter. The triumph makes 125Nm of peak torque at 9k rpm. The streetfighter exceeds the triumph in torque at this same RPM. In fact, the Ducati makes the triumph's peak at around 7800rpm (that's around 1200rpm lower than the triumph). I haven't seen the triumph's dyno chart (I haven't been able to find one), but, I assume that the Ducati keeps making more torque even lower in the rev range. Maybe, maybe, you can argue that the triumph at some point makes more torque... at this point if we are talking a window between 2000 - 4000 rpm where the triumph makes a little bit more, then I say it doesn't actually have more usable power at all. Even then, if you were correct to suggest that the triumph has more usable power, a buying decision is not judged purely on power. The Ducati is just way more desirable.

@@Omar-kw5ui my observation was just from a test ride perspective. I found that the kind of roads I normally ride (Bucks B roads) the Ducati just felt lack lustre at lower speeds. It was no fun at all and almost frustrating. On the other hand the The Speed felt so at home on normal roads and a misile when I got the chance to open the throttle. The Ducati however is a far more stunning bike to look at… I think the Triple Engine, the cost and actually having a fuel gauge is finally what swung for me!

Had one over 3 years now & done 15k on it , had the first black one in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 , it’s suspension was shocking for me when first got but had it set for me very early on , have fitted race fit exhaust , taken rear seat cowl off and replaced with carbon fibre , removed rear foot pegs , love it now . Much lighter than factory ., the exhaust and cat weigh lots .. getting in to. Neutral easy from second gear , most try from first , they design bikes to hit neutral from second down so don’t hit on up shifts . Love the triple engine .. gear shift and quick shifter is awesome on mine , I’d say best gear box I’ve used & I’ve used plenty , my BMW is agricultural by comparison 👍.

Excellent review👍🏽 I’d really like to see you review a KTM 1290 if possible. I think that ktm beast definitely has sex appeal, although beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Of course any of the naked MV Agusta line is the epitome of sex appeal. Your 890 r review was helpful in my decision in purchasing that crazy ktm machine. Thank you. Looking forward for your next posting. Keep up the great work!

Lovely bike but of the 4 riding buddies I know who have owned 2 have rejected due to multiple faults, 1 no issues at all and 1 the anti freeze bottle cover flew off on one occasion and the fuel pipe wasn't crimped and it poured all over the bike mid ride with it being about 500 miles old. It would seem (I dont own one) it has a few teething issues

The suspension is sporty and the road I was travelling on was bumpy. I select great routes to test a bike and I feel given how bumpy the road was the bike was handling it very well. I would be honest if I felt it was too harsh

Haha honestly it's just sporty there was enough give in both front and rear for my weight. Those roads are rough so it is actually a fair test. The bike looks to track the road surface with what feels like great high speed compression damping. No doubt it could benefit from a setup though to rider weight and wants
