Lovely tour Carolyn ❤ We live in Northwest Montana and understand all the weather woes this part of the country has undergone this year😆 Your kitchen and cottage gardens are absolutely spectacular! I've visited alot of small and large gardens in our area over the past 27 years but have never seen gardens like yours. You have all done SO well growing such a large abundance in a difficult climate !!💚 May God continue to bless you and yours ❤
I LOVE the flagstone path and your plan for low-growing thyme in the cracks. I also like your lavender plants by the steps. I can’t believe you can get them to be perennials in your climate! Great tour, Carolyn.
(Wife typing) "I think I should have a coffee before I film" 😂 That made me chuckle. I disagree: any mother who is up at 5:30am making a video of her kitchen garden gets a pass. Such a beautiful garden, Carolyn! Thank you for sharing it with us! We are getting ready to put in our fall garden here in Iowa.
I love your video today. One of my favorites. I am Linda in North Texas, where it's 105 at 2pm. I had wonderful tomatoes this year, fair cucumbers, green beans, onions and corn. Had shade cloth over the tomatoes and they are still producing slightly. Peppers in buckets are great, okra loves the heat as long as i water. Canned wonderful sweet pickle relish from the cucumbers and canned tomatoes and made salsa. By now here most things have called it done except the okra and peppers. We have had only 10 days so far oner 100. This time last year we were already over 20. I have lots of plants and flowers i am watering, early and late only. Love watching you. I grew up gardening, canning, pickling and freezing vegetables. Thank you for teaching younger people those skills. I am 76 and teaching my grandchildren. ❤
Thank you for sharing your tips - I am so inspired to keep trying to grow lettuce. I used to hate landscape cloth, now I LOVE it and can't believe the difference. I think of it as giving the food plants a chance against the grass... since our garden is near the pasture the grass constantly invades every space. Thanks again!
I have a periwinkle lawn, and when it blooms in the spring, it is STUNNING! And it controls the grass well. Occasionally I'll pull up a tuff of grass or two, but 95% of the lawn is periwinkle now :)
Good morning!!! I've been up since 3 am...you know when that idea hits, how you figure things out in your sleep? Well, here it is 8 am and my problem is solved. Ain't God good? :)
Thanks for sharing. You are an amazing woman!! I don't see how you keep up and do all you do. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate you trying to help others. And although it's off the subject, I am about to start making cheese with the "DAIRY CLASS" I purchased. Wish me luck.......
Beautiful garden! Great idea collecting seed. Thanks! We are in the south and find some greens only do well in early spring and late fall. Our favorite salad greens are mustards, red lettuces and beet greens. I've just planted some more beet seeds for a fall harvest starting with the greens and later the sweet roots.
Thanks for sharing part of your quiet time with us. Grass and weeds are why we finally went all raised beds 2-3 years ago.... especially since we grow no-till style. Financial cost up front, but so much time saving over the years.
Great video. Grass has been my biggest problem too. I did the black fabric hoping to remove it in 2 yrs. But my grass is so invasive and I am aging. So I have decided to leave it down. It has reduced my work so much. And I feel my food and soil is healthier than most. Making gardening easier is very wise.
Beautiful! I struggle with grass too! We have the SoCal heat so entirely different issues but I can relate to the grass problem! I love the cottage garden look! So welcoming.
Good morning from Michigan! We have used the landscape fabric for a few years. It has been wonderful and saves us so much time. The quality of your fabric makes a huge difference. We learned that the hard way the first year. 😊 After upgrading to a better fabric, it has been great. We have a 40x100 foot garden of just pumpkins and winter squash.
Good morning. Carolyn i love the flagstone walkway. We are in suburbia and doing my best to homestead. We even did a medicinal garden this year and have calendula to make your salve and oil. Have a good day to all!
We are in the Willamette Valley of OR where every weed can grow anywhere including on top of sidewalks 🤣and we use very deep layers of tree chips, like 12”+ deep. We literally use a drill to make holes to the dirt to put in our spring seedlings. Almost no weeds or grass anymore and the soil quality underneath just keeps getting better & better.
We are in North Georgia and it’s a rainforest here during the growing season. I cannot keep up even with the landscape cloth. It’s awful! I’ve resigned myself and just amend the garden heavily so the crops can grow amongst the dinosaur weeds 😂
I just watched this video. I have been watching y'all every day but I had never seen this one. I totally agree. I am a nurse too but I have learned a lot in the last few years.
Lovely tour Carolyn. The grass between flagstone is a real challenge. Driving me crazy thus year. Trying baking soda right now between walkway stones! Re herbs, my Oregano hs gotten way out of hand, humungus flowers! Do you dry and use the oregano flowers?
Beautiful garden! I struggle with how to cook Swiss chard, do you have any recommendations? It’s so easy to grow and has no pests so it would be awesome to figure out how I can like it. It seems bitter. ❤ Thanks for sharing!!
Path is lovely❤ Bad garden year in SW PA. I don’t know what’s going on but for the first time ever, the deer are jumping my 6 foot fence and just trashing my main garden. They started doing it in July -at the beginning of July. The deer have never eaten my garden until usually things start freezing off. i’m not the only one complaining I talk to a lot of gardeners, and the same thing is happening to their crops. It’s almost like the deer are out of control this year. I wonder if it’s a sign that there’s going to be a bad winter ?? ((that’s kind of hard to believe because we’ve had one of the hottest summers in history.☠️) Do you not have deer come through and eat your stuff?
If deer are pushing into an otherwise difficult location, they're either struggling for food due to bath growing conditions for their regular fodder, or they had a boom in their population and there are simply more deer, which causes pressure on food sources too. I always tell folks to plant 30% more for the critters, but if they're in your fence it's probably mass destruction. Good luck and take care! PS Deer are also great food, if you're into that type of thing. Just a thought...
So much plastic:( I use cardboard and wood chips to kill the grass and it works, the next year we have nice soils that can be added to the beds and then more cardboard and wood chips or shredded wood.
Just beautiful ❤ And the work to make it so requires extraordinary persistence ❤
Good morning! The flagstone path is gorgeous.

Hi Carolyn, You may want to try and propogate the lavender to fill in those patches. It's worth a try, no?
The path in your cottage garden is very pretty.

I love the garden path! It looks so lovely and cozy.
Your garden is always an inspiration. Thank you for sharing
Lovely garden tour
I’m so excited for your flag stone pathway in your wonderful 8 inch metal edging! I’m excited to see how it turns out for you next year too.
A beautiful garden
Thank you so much. Seeing the update of this garden, after watching it since you started it, is like visiting an old friend.
Hello from Toronto. I just found your channel; what a gorgeous garden. Thanks for sharing! ❤
Your garden looks great😊
Awesome garden!

Those salad greens look so fresh and delicious!

I have periwinkle on an embankment by the road. One of the best spring things is when it blooms.
Oh the path is gorgeous!!
Thank you!

Your cottage garden is a dream 😍
What a beautiful garden you have Carolyn. God is blessed your family well.❤️
Lavender is pretty easy to propagate with a little rooting hormone. You could fill in your lavender beds really quickly!
What a beatiful kitchen garden! ❤
Simply beautiful! I agree, the black fabric isn't the best looking, but it has a purpose. It'll be great afterwards.

I’m envious of the hollyhocks in your garden…I’ve had no luck growing them myself.
Thanks for sharing part of your quiet time with us. Grass and weeds are why we finally went all raised beds 2-3 years ago.... especially since we grow no-till style. Financial cost up front, but so much time saving over the years.
Same with us.

wow just wow Carolyn you are such a master at all the gardening
Thank you for sharing your beautiful kitchen garden! Motivation for all of us!! God Bless y'all!!

You look better without makeup 😊

Maybe propogate your lavender. It's pretty easy
I just purchased clover to plant in hard to mow area, considering replacing most of the grass with it.
Amazing garden. How do you not have cabbage moths and worms?
💕💕💕
💞
I love your cottage garden and flagstone path
How did you establish the terrace garden on that slope? It a great way to use a space that has very limited function!
❤😊❤😊

Do you have issues with squash bugs or cucumber beetles?? What do you do to control those pests?

You mentioned your cilantro bolted. Do you still eat bolted herbs?
May I ask where you got your lavender? Thanks.
Path is lovely❤

What kind of Leeks are you using? Im zone 3/4 and can't get them to grow.
Did you find the source of the round up?
