    Clearing away last years growth and finding the buds emerging from the earth below is one of the most exciting things about spring! (I know everyone here will totally understand that! ;). ). Thanks for all the inspiration and get-er-done attitude! It is contagious!

    With coffee in hand I bid you all good morning. I cleaned up a flower bed I started last fall and I see my Autumn Joy sedum is coming up and the iris I planted last fall. The iris came form my grammas garden, my aunt dug them up in the 80s and has split them and gave to my cousin and my cousins sent me some a few years ago. I was so glad they are growing since I had to move last fall and honestly i just stuck them in the ground in hopes to keep them alive. It worked. ☺

    Hello Laura, you have already created so many videos with tasks that have to be done. Do you think it would be possible for you to create a "monthly playlist"? At least for spring and autumn. Then you could look up what and how to do everything in February or March. Thank you for your videos. Greetings from southern Germany.

    Ahhh. The same exact three things I need to address in the garden. Also a zone 5/6 (newly 6 but still plant for a 5 because I have trust issues 😂) so we are in the same boat with seed starting, but it’s still too cold here to get out and prune or do garden clean up. Thankful for the reminder every year that it’s ALMOST time to tackle these disasters.

    • @LadyCourtney13
      @LadyCourtney13 2 года назад +7

      lol....yes, they say i am a 7, but i still lose plants that are zone 7, so 6 it will stay.

    • @BettyWhiteJr
      @BettyWhiteJr 2 года назад +13

      😂😂 sister, I think we all have those trust issues…thanks for the laugh, that was such a true statement 😂😂
      For me it’s trusting that “full sun” lie they put on plants here in the hot and humid south. Very few plants can truly take full sun here. The “full sun” label almost never means “zone 8 in the Deep South with 70% average humidity and no reprieve at nights type of full sun”….it really means “zone 4-6 full sun where nights get cool and your humidity isn’t the consistency of boiled soup type full sun” lol 😂😂

    • @saltycat662
      @saltycat662 2 года назад +2

      Wow I thought I was the only person who felt like this. I also don't trust those zone recommendations. I am doing cleanup for some of the plants now because the ones I planted can easily deal with a cold Spring snap. Otherwise, I'd be wary.

    • @jsaysyay
      @jsaysyay 2 года назад

      honestly same about those zone trust issues lol, we've been a zone 6 as long as i've lived (only 23 though), and this year we got -13, like, hello? zone 6 is -10 MAX but ok

    Ever since I have started watching you I am a lot braver when it comes to pruning my plants. When we started gardening 20+ years ago, every plant was an investment and I was so afraid that cutting off so much might kill them and therefore be money thrown away that we would be hard-pressed to replace. But now I can see that it was actually better to give my plants the attention they needed for their overall health and for a better show. Thank you for helping me to be fearless and to enjoy my garden more.

    You mentioned hydrangeas are great for in front of the house because they look good all the time- no deadheading, etc. I wondered if you could do a video of your favorite plants (big and small) for front walkways where you see the plants up close. I love daylillies but found out I don't love them in the walkway where you clearly see the deadheading that needs done. Would love to know your thoughts! Nice clean up Ms Laura. Ready for spring and summer. Enjoy your spring. I laughed when Mr. Benjamin said, "your all dirty". So cute. Does he not like getting out and getting dirty ? I thought maybe since he likes to help at times it wouldn't bother him. I pray that Mr. Aaron is doing well from his concussion. I had one once. I was knocked out from falling down a flight of stairs. I cracked facial bones in the process. It took a long time to heal. Be safe and well. God's speed.

    Good morning Laura! I smiled when I saw the plant labels tucked into the soil by the hellebore plants. I don’t remember you leaving perennial tags in the ground before. You usually seem to know your plant names off the top of your head. :) I use metal garden markers at the base of my plants along with a plastic tag buried close to the crown of the plant. I locate the markers to the right of the plants to make them easy to find when the plant leafs out. I grow too many varieties of plants to remember all the names. I also use photographic files of images for the plants in the different beds. For things that I have a lot of, like Lilium, hostas, and daylilies, I have spread sheets with names and locations of the plants.

    Motivation Motivation Motivation Girl you are such a Motivator. Thank You Thank you 🙏🏻. Now to go get mine done. Much smaller but the only reason I have these plants is because of your example. I’m 63 and learning so much. Bit here in Texas no hydrangeas can hand a full 6 hours of our sun. Just an hour or two of dappled morning sun. I planted a twist and shout and a limelight. So far😉. And some Italian ice last year. And only one hellebore. It’s a experiment for me. Ok. Gotta get busy. I don’t have the young energy you do so I have my grandson helping this week. Thanks again for all the videos. You are my favorite 🤩

    You're still a little ahead of us on the chores for outside. We just had 7 inches of snow. I do love the spring because of how much of a contrast it makes once you get everything cleaned up from winter. I'm having trouble getting hydrangeas to grow in my garden. I'm losing them every year. I've tried different spots and it's so frustrating. I want hydrangeas but they don't want me! I'm starting a lot of flowers from seed this year and hopefully they will do great. If they do will save me on my budget for my garden and can put in a lot more drip line. Thanks so much for posting, enjoyed this one with my coffee.

    The brick sidewalks there are the improvement on which I was focused. Such a drastic and beautiful difference they make. Recently, I was looking back through your videos for your opinions on how to grow asparagus, which I am finally going to try. It's astounding to see how much your landscape has changed and how it's slowly but surely coalescing into one seamless whole dotted throughout with individual garden pockets. Really looking forward to seeing what you do this year. ~ Lisa

    Yes! Exactly wanted I needed to see, learning all the time. I hope you film pruning the Clementis at your outdoor fireplace - I have two at my arbor and every year I wonder if I am doing it more harm than good.

    I am looking forward at pruning my Limelights and see how they do this year. I planted them last year zone 7 and they were small but pretty. I cannot wait to see how they grow big and full of blooms. Thank you for the inspiration!

    Pruning these make me feel like I do when I come out of the hair salon with a nice hair cut! It’s just the best feeling! That’s how I feel about pruning…..best feeling for the plants.

    Last week I bought myself 2 hydrangeas, 2 clematis and 1 rose bush. Today I ordered Felco 14 pruners (I have small hands) and 2 pair of gloves. The pair you demonstrated with the berry bushes and a pair like what your wearing in this video.

    I planted a hellebore last year to see how they would do for me, well my deer love them!!!!
    All I have is a few dead leaves from last year no new growth!!
    Hopefully they will get some new growth now that the deer have other things to eat.

    What a timely video! I was out in the glorious spring , 68 and sunny 🌞 trimming roses cutting back perennial’s and raking , I’ll have at least one big load to haul away with the Ranger ! Came in to rest and watch my favorite RUclipsr Garden Answer !My arms are all scratched from the roses , I don’t even notice because I get so involved! I want to cut back the hydrangeas in front of our house now . Oh and get rid of all the chickweed growing prolifically 😖 I suppose you don’t deal with chickweed ? It’s our winter ground cover , uninvited of course !

    It's so satisfying to watch you (high speed) pruning and cleaning up. We still have rain happening here but I stand at the window, pruners in hand, just waiting for a few minutes of blue sky so I can get my pruning done too. Thanks, as always, for the inspiration!!

    Whoa! I bet you were hurting the next day. Those early spring clean outs are tough after a long winter. So satisfying to stand back and observe the end results though.
