      @Bebo What make is your frame? Do you have it posted on IG or anywhere else?
      I would just recommend quality parts. Gran Compe-H Plus Son wheelset from Velomine. Silver cranks(Shimano or Campy). You can go black or silver for seatpost clamp and headset/cockpit. It’s personally preference tbh.

    Highly recommend building your own bike at least once in your life. Very satisfying and a great way to learn about maintenance and components. 🤘

      @alienrefugee51 3 года назад +5

      This was my biggest takeaway. You take the time to research parts, tools and how to assemble parts and you come out so much more knowledgable at the end. That stays with you for the future. Then you tell all your friends, yeah I built this baby myself.

    Ahhhh!
    Purple is also my favourite colour BUT the correct shade. That looks like a base coat of purple.
    It needs to be deeper - I would buy the Soma Rush if given the choice of the two.
    One thing that Wabi nailed is those delicious cranks!

      Im not a super fan of purple but that Soma Rush is on point. This wabi looks like a funky crayola color. The sparkle is pretty dope but that funky lavender creme is... well not dope at all imo. The yellow one is my favorite still. Totally dig that particular yellow. Another dope color is 70’s peugeot green

    Nicely done!
    Just a couple additional thoughts from a member of the “steel is real” mafia;
    1) With a new steel frame, find someone who knows what they’re doing with the right tools to face the bottom bracket and chase the paint from the threads. You will be rewarded with a lifetime of well aligned bottom bracket bearings that thread on smoothly.
    2) Likewise, get the head tube and crown races ground. Hands free riding is so much better on bikes prepped this way.
    3) Nothing wrong with grease. Nothing. But-on same rack as grease at a good bike shop is anti-seize, use this on anything other than bearings. A little better for those applications in terms of keeping stuff from slipping, preventing corrosion, and more resistant to washing out. Superb for bottom brackets to aluminum frames and cogs to wheels.
    4) I absolutely concur with conclusion that if you are approaching bicycle components with an electric power tool, something is wrong. Never mind that I recently had to (successfully) resort to using an impact wrench to remove a freewheel that had been on a tandem for over 30 years…

My poor ass is going to try and built it up this winter hopefully by next year's riding season I'll be able to save enough to get it dialed in. It's my first bike as an adult and making it into a daily commuter. Running a 40/20 ⚙️ right now but need to bring it down to a 38/20 for the terrain. Been really loving this Chanel and have been watching everything the past 2 months. Learning as much as possible. I recently grabbed a chain whip. One tool at a time! Haha

    Alternative to greasing saddle rails on a creaking saddle is to put a layer of electrical tape where the rails meet the clamp. I have a Flite Titanium perched atop a Nitto S65 seat post and the titanium rails don’t seem to get along with the aluminium clamp. It produces the most irritating creaking noises. Grease was a great temporary fix. Electrical tape holds up much longer though. No noise ever since I installed it.

    definitely recommend a spray on bolt penetrating spray/oil (pb blaster, wd40, liquid wrench, etc). I had a similar situation with my cog that was put on by the factory and seemed to be torqued down by king kong. After spraying some pb blaster, waiting a couple minutes, and the rotafix method, the cog came off with ease.

    Wow one thing though, when applying the bottom bracket, make sure the threads aren’t fully painted on. If so please be careful when installing the bb as it can stripped the threads sometimes, depending on how heavy the coating is. Normally you should be able to install the bb by hand with ease, normally if it is painted you wanna get it retapped and bored so it can sit flush and to clean the threads from the paint. Now this step can be optional as the service from bike shows can be expensive but bike shops offer this service.

  • @brosettastone7520
    @brosettastone7520 8 месяцев назад

    To help get a stuck cog off - use a small purpose butane torch. It will heat the molecules in the metal and cause them to move at microscopic levels to release the friction. I’ve done this many times. No don’t torch the absolute shit out of it, just simply heat it up. You could have avoided the dremel completely .

    Proof here, that you will almost always run into at least one road bump when building a bike. Rather than trying to force something, the best thing you can do is take a break and clear your mind for a moment. Then re-analyze the situation, maybe watch some videos about your problem/forums and try again. If it's still not working, then take it to your LBS the next day. It's a hard pill to swallow, especially when you were pumped to go take your new build for a ride, but the alternative is probably being more bummed out when you realize you just permanently fucked something up.

    God's cosmic energy is a peculiar thing. In the middle of your vid I was reminded of not having cut the 350mm long aluminum seat post on a 63cm frame, steel. After considerable difficulty I got the post out but had only a Dremel tool and tiny cut off wheel; cutting at an angle because the wheel is smaller than my hand holding the tool. Doing this I thought not an intelligent solution but the post is shortened so success. Then I continued with your vid and there you were, cut off wheel at the ready! SOLADARITY!

    Really bothers me to see how you tried getting that cog off. You could have been more patient, apply penetrating oil, tried to get it loose by trying to skid without a lockring on a safe bit of road or parking lot, perhaps with a front brake mounted for safety. Now you just messed up the cog and the single spoke (that does need to be replaced!), it really pains me Zach.

    Not greasing it will lead to corrosion if ridden in the wet, just use a calibrated torque wrench and it will be fine
