I'm going with a white shirt, brown vest, and black cowboy hat.
EDIT: I wrote this before I saw the end of the video, so shorts and boots too.
Do it to make Lauren happy!
This would make Lauren very happy (I'm told).
From terrible El Paso, wishing you... all the best. Haha
Thanks for the ideas, but I'm still showing up as thor crossdressing as freyja
😅
very argr of you /pos
I expected a history lesson, that's quite the surprise.
Ouh, the seiðkona dress sounds amazing! 🥰I'm gonna try to sew and recreate that, but more out of historical clothing curiosity than for a Halloween costume.
In preparation for October I got an Odin as the 'traveling old man' costume. I am getting back into Pokemon cards lately - not merely 'collecting' them, but playing them. I built two decks, one based on Honchkrow, the other on Corviknight (both corvids, Huginn/Munnin - Honchkrow particularly is based off Odin, with the 'wide-brimmed hat' and plumage that resembles a beard), and I will be going around local card shops to play people in-character throughout the month. It'll be fun.
That's so fun
A spotted cloak made me wonder. Spotted in mud? Sootted with embroidery? A shaggy cloak with spots of colour woven in? You can surface dye fabric by laying leaves upon it and have the tannins stain, but ive only heard of this in a modern context. Hmmm.
Aptrganga. Does that mean "after (death) walker"?
No, the "aptr" part ( modern Norwegian atter or att) means something like "again" or "one more time".
@@johnegeland Thank you.
Meaning is very similar to the German word for revenant: Wiedergänger meaning again-goer or again-walker.
Analogous to english's "un-dead"?
@@jwelke9 Just like Swedish "gengångare".
Witch again for me, everything already is in the wardrobe. PS I have a black felt cowboy hat, a closet full of boots, but no vests, they don't sell them in the midwest and Grimfrost is NO HELP!
So where do I get some cat skin for my völva costume?
No idea, but I've heard there's more than one way
Any recommendations for making a convincing blood eagle with cocktail sauce and some tortillas with liquid concealer?
Good seeing you!
For the last one, I thought of John Tolkien. Doesn't he qualify as an Old Norse scholar? I know it wasn't his focus, but still...
Yes, he taught at Oxford
Some information that might be interesting to know: The Vikings in East-Greenland also used to wear 'Fugger hats' (of German origin) imported from Brugge (Hansa member). In return they exported walrus ivory to Brugge . When the Portuguese started their voyages to Africa, the elephant ivory was cheaper and the Vikings lost their income. That would be one of the reasons they left East-Greenland.
I was already thinkin you were gonna be the last costume as you should be but that one was also great 😂❤ I love that your lady is just tellin you what we are all thinkin 😁💞😊
I've gone as the Jörmungandr once. Sowed myself a green dress and wore a weird frog hat I made back in Year 9. Worked very well.
Hello Jackson, why don't you make videos about Kveding or other "post old norse" traditions... we would appreciate this on this side of the Ocean :)
Best I can do is Hank Junior, or Rip from Yellowstone. I can't pull off the whole badassed professor of Old Norse!
No way! Another banger from old norse specialist Dr Jackson Crawford right in my feed?
I'm not sure I have time to do more sewing, so maybe I will just be a nameless peasant. I did sew myself a tunic, and I have a cloak I made out of an old wool blanket.
Well, well, it isn't son of Jack of Crows crossing back at it again
Last year I dressed up as Odin (wizard hat, staff, and an eye patch) and I found a quote from one of your videos from Odin and repeated it to some people.

OMG, Visfússon!! 😆
Amy, Can you believe the Doc said we were “carping” about the C-V dictionary? Not even! I’ve personally only carped a dozen times! What an egregious over statement. 😂
I'm going as Inspector Gadget.
