I'm happy with pegboard for my tools, but I've used french cleats for hanging old kitchen upper cabinets in my basement for canning storage.

I chose to make my spacers without the 45 degree cut. You don't have to slide them out of the ends that way, just pop them out.

What stud finder is that? would you recommend it? I've tried 2-3 different ones and none have seemed to work well.

Decades of tool collection, one at a time. Do a job, but you're one $125 tool short, having someone do it will be $800. So you buy the tool and 25 years later people walk into your shop like, wow, where did you get all these tools?... little by little, job by job, one at a time.
