  • So, you want to join the hobby? I have you covered in this thorough video! What I do is breakdown all of my investments in the last year. Where did I overspend? Where did I get a good deal? In a time where it's hard to get out to local game shops, often online stores are our best place so go, but with prices rising that can be wasting your hard earned cash. So, how do you get started? Well, I hope to help you with that. Happy game hunting!

I'm kinda collecting this past year or two. Nothing major. Concentrated mostly on 360 games that are series x compatible along with og xbx as well. Any others that I find at the local Sunday Market. Mostly ps2, wii and the odd ps3. A few ps1 but not in great condition

@@niallmccann6780 I tend to collect in waves. Earlier this year, my focus was PS3. Then I hit Wii/WiiU pretty hard. Lately, we've been on the same page - Xbox/360 titles that work on the SX. I started collecting with the OG Xbox in 2016, but I was still missing some choice BC titles.

I started game collecting as a way to save them from the dump. You'd be surprised how many vintage games used to be found on sale shelves, thrift stores and garage sales. Having started as a pc gamer, we haven't had physical copies in decades. Was never much of a console player, but I saw the value (no financial pun intended) long ago. Its nice that people are starting to appreciate old games as the art they always were.

I would love this too, but I guess limited run is the closest we'll get for now, even though it's not really the same. It would be great for a criterion type of release of a classic game like silent hill for example and have a bunch of extras like a second disc with interviews from some of the original devs where they talk about the inspiration and just the process of making a game like that.

I found it very beneficial to buy a backwards compatible wii since I sincerely don't have enough space with my ps5, ps3, Nintendo 64 and switch taking up majority of that space. Its been fun. Humbling in terms of pricing but overall, im glad to have my old collection of video games that I for some reason sold when I was a pre-teen 😅

If you were wondering why game stop put stickers on the spine, it helped inventory counts go faster. When I worked there, we were vehemently opposed to doing this for the obvious reasons. All they had to do was put the sticker with the thermal paper over the spin, no need to ruin the box art.

I grew up with physical games, but over the years they all got scratched up because my younger brothers and sisters. I was traumatized by that and began buying exclusively digital because they couldn’t get damaged. However in the last couple months, I’ve begun switching back to physical and have been collecting a bit of everything but mainly ps3 games. I switched back to physical because I’m a lot older now and am able to keep the games away from them.
Most consoles nowadays don’t even play games off of the disk anymore. The games still digitally download and just use the disk as a license key. So why not keep a license key so you can resell it later if you want to to make some money back.

you can still get amazing prices on a great game collection, you just have to have a more long form approach. there's a window where a console isn't new anymore but it's not old enough for prices to surge. about 6 months before the ps5 came out, i got 25 ps4 games for $165 from a guy who hits estate sales and then resells stuff. i actually got to pick the games from a larger pool, so i actually wanted all 25. then in the last month actually i picked up a 360 slim with 19 games (i didn't pick them, it's just what it came with, but the games are pretty solid on average), a first party controller plus 2 rechargeable battery packs for $85.

Love Jak X. It has a lot of bugs on slim PS2's. I don't remember the specific details, but apparently Jak X was developed with some reused code or an older engine that relied on PS1 architecture. Something like that. Either way, PlayStation 2's made after a certain date (perhaps all slims) lack the physical PS1 hardware of the fat models, and actually use emulation instead. I think early PS2 slims still have most of the hardware, but later versions were all emulation. Jak X apparently had trouble with this, and has a lot of game breaking bugs on slim models. I believe it's at a point where you can emulate it well with the correct settings. Whenever ya got the time, and maybe not on a newer slim model lmao, you should try it out Matty. I actually love Jak X combat racing. It's a fun arcade racing game with a story to justify it's existence. If you love the Jak and Daxter series it's just worth playing eventually.

They weren't ground breaking graphically or gameplay wise, especially compared to what came later, but they did have a certain charm. I also liked that hard to describe "chunky-ness" of the character models, maybe because they were lower res...the way they looked on older tvs. So, off the top of my head: Conan, Simpsons, Folklore, Stranglehold, Disgaea 3 to name a few.

It’s also nice supporting your local game shop if they’re really cool. The retro shop I go to is really clean and the people there are really friendly so I don’t mind giving them $10 - 15 over EBay listing price.

Your advice that you cannot profit from flipping games is crazy and inacurrate at the 1:00 mark. Any successful collector that also isn't in the poor house hustles like crazy, finding games at thrift stores/pawn shops/garage sales etc. and can easily generate $$$$-$$$$$/year in profit, in addition to growing a spectacular game collection to own and enjoy.
