- "How do you find these deals on motorcycles?" is a common question I get on this channel so this video is all about answering that! I sit down with some select people who like to wheel and deal for insight and advice on exactly how they do it. This is a fun podcast style video so sit back and enjoy the conversation.

Well this was super fun to make so I hope you all enjoy this random video! Thanks so much to my guests for taking the time to talk and give insight to a common question I get.
Who do you think got the best deal?
great video the next 500 Is it still available messages get a link to your video
I'm sorry I'm not sure what you are asking about. Can you clarify?
Loads of fun. Thanks for the opportunity.
I'm still fairly new to working on motorcycles (I got my first bike about 5 years ago, a vintage CB750 like BJs). Ive been inspired by RUclipsrs like yourself (and others in this video) to find some flip projects and put my limited skills to the test. So far I've picked up two bikes. My problem is I'm a bit OCD, so I'll find a bike for a good price but end up putting way too much time and money into it fixing it. It's surprising how fast parts adds up... and I'm not good at figuring out what to fix and what to leave for the next owner to deal with. I got my first non-runner flip bike up and running and sold it for twice what I paid...but in the end I broke even. For me, a big part of this is about learning to work on bikes, so I'm ok with paying for my education. I learned a lot on that first flip bike and I'm elbow deep in the second one right now. I could spend money taking a class or I could find an old bike and teach myself in my garage.
Flipping can be hard. I'm currently in the same dilemma with a cx500 I need to do work on and resell. They aren't worth that much money so I need to be very careful not to invest too much
The hardest part with buying a "barnfind" for me is deciding NOT to buy it. Which is hard sometimes especially if you drove a big distance to see it. I guess best advice would be to stick to your budget and be aware that replacment parts can add up reeeeeeeal quickly. If you buy the bike for yourself, then it doesnt matter, but if you want to flip it then making a list (expenses, parts, labor) is paramount. Nice video BJ (thanks for wearing my hat)!
Well put and I agree. Very hard to walk away sometimes but it can be for the best
This was a fun video. Good guests. I've learned a lot from Classic Octane videos, as well as Brickhouse and Motorcycle Rewind. I'll have to check out the other guy's channels.
Sellers get annoyed by "tire kickers" which I totally get, I've sold bikes before, but I feel like even if there's only a 5 percent chance of me buying the bike, I still want to go look at it if it's local to me. And then there's the part of me that wants to go meet another guy in my area who's into the same vintage bikes as me. Ive made a couple motorcycle friends that way. There aren't a ton of us vintage motorcycle guys around. If I'm selling and someone shows up and has knowledge and enthusiasm for vintage bikes, I'm usually happy to have met them whether they buy the bike or not.
One of the best videos on RUclips
🤘🤘 glad you enjoyed!
Such a great video. Just finished watching the whole episode. Thanks!
Big thanks for being a part of it! I know we could have gone for hours
Great video with some good insight. I listened to the whole thing like it was a podcast. I definitely need to checkout two more channels but you couldn’t have picked a better bunch of guys to do it.
Well thank you! I loved how everyone had something different to say as far as making deals and such. Was a lot of fun!
@@BrickHouseBuilds the podcast idea I think is a good one. I had to get off the app and get on the web so I could listen without the screen running. Great to listen to while I worked.
You are an absolute treasure. Incredible information, amazing you are willing to share and shed great light on the subject.
Glad you enjoyed! I think everyone had a unique take and provided solid advice!
my first show was an estate sale where i picked up a YSR for 50 bucks. and flipped it for another bike and cash.. then i traded one of those bike a GPZ 900 for a Fireblade and another bike.. triumph 600 TT for 500 bucks and parted it out for 3000k.
Duuuude thats rad! I assume it was a 50?
good information. I already subscribe to most of these channels. I have recently, last October, bought my first bikes to flip... 24 actually. All Hondas, all from 1962 to 1969. A variety ranging from a CT90s to CL175s to a Dream 305 and a CL77. Six came with titles, the rest will have titles within the next couple weeks. Sheriff already approved the VINs for transfer.
My goal is to work through these to get them sold and at the end have two bikes that I keep in the stable for my riding pleasure. I'm sure I will be doing some horse trading to get where I want to be but I'm having fun selling spare parts, working on my own project, and working on the first bike to sell. I'm watching all the videos from you, Eric, Taylor, and Brian Matson at Keep on Wrenching to learn how to do the work.
I got bit by the vintage Honda bug last June at a swap meet bike show. Game on!
First, I never thought I would watch the whole video but I did. It was very interesting and informative. Your "guests" were great and obviously very sharp. This was a great video. I'm starting to buy and sell bikes a little bit. I started in hopes of just helping pay for the hobby.
Well I'm glad to hear that! I know 2 hours is a long time but everything that was said was interesting or insightful so I just kept it all in
I'm glad you kept it all in. If you ask the opinion of 10K but they don't know what they are talking about the information is useless. The guests repeating similar things drove home the fact of how knowledgeable the group is. @@BrickHouseBuilds
Great content BJ on where to find the "Best Deals." Thank You for posting your many "How to videos" on getting these bikes back on the road. The deals are out there for sure. You just need to be vigilant, do your research and be ready when the opportunity arises. When I lived in California, I went to Arizona for a '74 CB750, Sunrise Flake Orange. All stock with the 4 into 4 pipes. In my situation I bought it as a keeper. I've owned it for 14 yrs and ride it as much as I can. That was my first EBay purchase. Final negotiation in person. I'm living in Oregon now and I went to Arizona again for a CB1100, 2013 model and rode it home. That was a Craigslist find. My most recent find was on a W650 I found on Marketplace. The "Deals" are out there whether buying to keep or flip. I'm also on 750 Forums where guys are always buying/selling/trading or giving away stuff. That's my 2 cents approach. Best of luck to everyone on finding that deal.
Well I'm glad you enjoyed!
I loved this episode. It's for me exactly.
My deals I've swapped a really nice pitbike for a Honda cm400 project that ran and rode but I had to competition to the wiring from scratch. Jack the hoop cafe it it came with an 2001 r6 front end complete with dual disc's! Very fun bike just had a really annoying issue getting into neutral most of the time. Replaced clutch already. Lol. It used to drag now it doesn't do that but the neutral issue seems worse.
I just got done dealing an 86 iroc z body with alot of parts for a complete 03 gsxr1000 but the engine case is broke. So it'll either be replace block and do the machine and rebuild or source a different engine.
Lots of deals there! Glad you enjoyed
I'm from the uk and when this popped up on my subs list i put off watching it for awhile, i didn't expect to find it interesting or relevant but actually found it really interesting and now don't feel so ashamed of how much time i spend scrolling through marketplace
Hahaha you're in good company amongst us marketplace addicts
I’ve been buying, working on, and flipping bikes as a hobby for about 5 years now and I loved this episode. I enjoy the bikes and working on them but I LOVE the hunt for the deal. Maybe I should start filming my adventures 🤷♂️. Thanks for putting this together!
That's awesome! The hunt is fun for sure
LOVE this. Great episode and very relatable conversation. I've been looking for a good podcast about bikes too but haven't found one I can stand haha.
Glad you enjoyed! I do like highside lowside and the pigeonwhole when Dave still did it
Enjoyed this a lot BJ. I was already subscribed to a couple of your guests. Prefer this to podcasts, I listen to tunes or chat with a buddy when I work, not talk radio, even if I like the topic. Keep em coning!
Thanks Jeff! Glad you enjoyed
What I always do is take my time, I’ll get interested in a certain bike and then spend a few months looking for one, sometimes I get distracted by another type of bike that’s a bargain and get that instead, but that’s fine.
So generally this is what I do.
Search for weeks til I see one that looks good and is at a reasonable price (never at a dealership, I always buy from other bikers).
Then I contact the seller and ask how long they have owned it, if they know of any faults , that sort of thing.
If they stay friendly and helpful I stay interested, if they get wound up I leave it there.
Anyway if they pass the personality test I go to see the bike.
I’ll be friendly and not ask them insulting questions.
If it’s any good I will say “look it’s a nice bike and I like it, but always a difficult question what’s the absolute bottom dollar you’d accept?”
I’m always amazed by what they drop to, usually hundreds less than the initial asking price, that’s because people ask as much as they dare but are very often happy with far less.
I have only ever once lost money on a bike, and that’s because it was a brand new bike which I knew would depreciate, every other bike I’ve bought 2nd hand I’ve made a profit, buy cheap, look after the bike, it works for me.
Kindness goes a long way. I like that tactic
Hi BJ really enjoyed this such good friends you have with channels I hadn’t heard of will be good to have a look at ,I think this had a really good inside view to what all of you guys do ,and what and not to look out for when buying not only bikes and cars but just about anything parts or whatever some really good points made for sure yeah really enjoyed it thanks for everyone’s time 🏁🏁👌👍❤️🔧🔧🔧🏍️🏍️🏍️
Glad you enjoyed and found some new people to follow!
@@BrickHouseBuilds yeah thanks to you 👍👍👌
Bj, thanks so much for putting this together. Such a good idea. I thought it was cool to see how similar some of our stories and process thinking are. Everyone had great stories. Pod cast 🤔 Build that empire buddy!!
Thanks dude! I thought everyone had some great stuff to share and only my questions were really repeated!

Best deal I had was a kz750 and a a7ss that was literally down the alley. I had seen them sitting under a tree since I moved in and had my garage door open while working on another bike. The owner stops by and talks to me and asks if I'd want them and shoots me a price of $300 for the pair. I pay and then push them back home. I got the kz running and ended up selling it for $400. I had a guy send me $500 for the a7ss and then never showed up and I couldn't get back ahold of him (he was a major ebay parts seller). I waited over a year and then resold the a7ss.
Can't beat that!
We're fortunate here, anything over 35 years old doesn't need a title.
Very cool
🤘🤘
Great video, interesting to see everyone's perspective and where the differences and similarities lie. Had a laugh at the "1/5th of the fleet runs" comment with Taylor, also like you mentioned in a video you did awhile back when you were counting up the bikes in the shop, do frames count? Because I have at least as many frames as I have rolling bikes. 😆
Haha yeah that 1/5th isn't bad! I'll let the jury decide on if frames count
@@BrickHouseBuilds I'll say, I'm at 0/5ths at the moment 🤣
Deals are getting harder to find though as every man and his dog thinks they can make money from old motorbikes. You have the dreamers who put a cafe seat on a bike, call it done and want $3k more than they paid for a bike and then the people who have no idea what they are selling but still want an arm and a leg (because the internet leads them to believe they have a goldmine on their hands).... The World has changed over the last few years especially in Canada.....
Well this comes down to the negotiations. I don't feel its changed drastically and can still find deals like I always have been able to
Very helpful video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed
Nice...👍.
🤘🤘
Great vid! Extremely relatable lol
Glad you enjoyed!
@@BrickHouseBuilds haven’t finished yet, it’s long!! 😂 (But good so far)
Great Podcast! Yes, CL is scam central and not the best source anymore, but I just scored my 100% original, shed-stored CB750K3 on there. Lots of old folks do not social media and CL is maybe all they know. But I have definitely scored more bikes on Marketplace.
Thats exactly the scenario I target on Craigslist lol. Deals to be had so congrats there!
What would be the maximum distance you would drive? Also, I've been burned on titles, twice before, I get to the bike to buy it and the title is not in his name from the previous owner with the tile being a closed title. This was after asking specifically if they have a clean/clear title in their name or open title. One was a five hour drive. I now ask for the seller to send a pic, front and back , of the title.
Thats a tough call. I once flew from Stl to New Orleans to buy a truck that was NOTHING like the seller described and I backed out if the deal. I bought a Corvette sight unseen and it popped the head gaskets 30 minutes later. That sucked. At this point in life though I typically don't need to venture past a few hours away unless it's something I have been actively hunting for a while
@@BrickHouseBuilds I just bought two bikes recently and Intend on flipping them. It's almost a crap shoot in this day. Good luck and happy hunting
Spent a weekend driving from NY to VA and back to pick up $200 bike 😂😂 no regrets.
Great show. Do a podcast please.
I would definitely like to
Deals Wait For Nobody 🤑
100% As I say they are out there but you have to be quick!
Didn't see Donald Trump🤠
Like anything else..the more work you put into searching the more results will be found....That perhaps seems like rocket science to todays youth...
IDK its seems like a comment I get from all generations
OkOKOK I haven't been the "very best" fan. Not gonna lie. I've been binging on the Suzuki V Stom 800. All about that bike. Well today I discovered fb marketplace. My site is 12 years old. And there, this afternoon, I'm going through all of the east coast and lining up the Honda Nighthawk 750 today on fb. Maybe, just maybe, with your help, I can cut through the crap. Of the six sellers that I've connected with ~ five have responded. A 1996, a 2002 and a 2003 are - I think - maybe real. The very best is the 2003 who has offered a story about no title and opening a container and only has a bill of sale. The price is really cheep. Odds are it's a stolen bike. How do you do a title search??? That's my big question. I have been "new best friend" for some time. I appreciate your focus on Honda's so that is where I went today. All day long. The title search. How do you do that? Thank you Thank you Thank you. So now I'll watch and listen. I'll follow up with another comment and like I'll be a patron. Anything ! Thank you so much. Maybe the Honda Nighthawk 750 is crap. You can say that too. Anything! Thank you!
No worries! Since the bikes you are looking at are modern 17 digit vins you can use vincheck. It will cost a few bucks to run them but it's worth it
@@BrickHouseBuilds it’s a 2003 night hawk. “She” just replied again. I can not believe the storage container story. And a woman who sells bikes. So so sketchy. I will go with a reply that I’ve consulted an expert. You. I’ll also let you know. Thanks so much. 🙏
