  • Welcome to Them’s Fightin’ Herds! This indie fighter is cute on the surface, but it has many nuanced mechanics that can be overwhelming for newcomers. Now, I’m sure there are plenty of videos and websites that have tips for getting into the game, but I wanted to offer some advice of my own. Is it because I’m a skilled player? Heck no, I’m a rookie! But I’ve learned all sorts of things by watching tournaments of the game and playing it casually, things that some seasoned fighters might take for granted. So, here’s advice coming from one beginner to another.
    Much of the footage in this video was captured while fighting computer opponents. If you see huge amounts of skill on the screen, it’s probably the AI doing its thing or a sample combo playing in Training Mode. But hey, I did pull off some neat stuff and learn more about the game as I put hours and hours into making this video. (It was made with version 3.1 of the Steam game.)
    I should also point out that much of the footage was done in Training Mode with infinite super meter or magic on. So, if you notice a character use their super or magic but the corresponding meter doesn’t deplete, that’s why.
    I’m sorry that I don’t have a good microphone for the narration.
    Do you have any tips of your own? Let me know in the comments!
    The music in this video comes from the game, as compiled by the RUclipsr Dogman15 (ruclips.net/p/PL2.... Did you know that the music’s instrumentation changes based on which character’s winning? You can purchase the awesome soundtrack here: rc88.bandcamp.com/music

    Here are a few thoughts I'd like to add:
    - If you’re already in the corner or close to it, don’t tech roll into the corner. You’re just making it easy for your opponent to grab you.
    - There is no agreed-upon tier list in the community. Everyone has their own preferences, but all of the fighters are viable.
    - Velvet’s level 3 super can be useful sometimes since it gives her a huge command grab. Paprika’s level 3 super can be useful sometimes since it gives her a reversal. However, I still think you’re better off using your lower-level supers rather than gambling 3 bars of meter on one attack. After all, it’s hard to build up 3 bars of meter. I firmly believe new players should ignore their level 3 supers as they learn the ropes.
    - Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to controlling the game. Some prefer arcade sticks, some prefer gamepads, others prefer keyboards. I, personally, am most comfortable with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, especially thanks to its d-pad. (I think the Xbox 360 controller’s d-pad just plain doesn’t work well for circle inputs.)
    Thanks again for watching!

    Thank you! This is very helpful. I have been a fan of the game since it’s 2018 release, but the Console release has been my first chance to actually play.

      As I was aware of the Dev’s recommendation, I have been practicing with Ari the most so far, and she is certainly the easiest to pick up of the cast. I have found great success with her, even if I’m not winning matches, I find myself performing well, unless I’m against an experienced master who can deplete half my health in a long combo string.
      The only fighting game I have played before TFH is Smash, which I was never great at - because I was a button-mashing little kid. However, I have been trying my hand at Pom. Of all the characters, her Summon/Puppet playstyle intrigues me the most, as I enjoy similar concepts in other videogames, and it is something I’d love to learn well, and, admittedly, the concept of a sweet timid lamb commanding puppies is too cute for me to turn down.
      I think my biggest struggle right now is the inputs themselves. I have never had particularly nimble hands when using a controller and I frequently mess up the circle inputs, but I am starting to get the hang of it. This game is such much fun, and I look forward to learning more.

      I can definitely understand Pom's appeal. She's my favorite character to watch in tournaments due to her unique play style.
      I'm glad this guide helped you out. Keep up the practice! :)

    To me Texas is my go to, heavy grappler who’s bells hit as hard as the brass they are made of. I’m also very drawn to the puppet characters as well so I’m trying to get to stronghoof or palm. Great vid by the way

    I've had this on Steam for some years & was considering getting the console version. Good tips!
    No prob on a mic. I prefer text. 🙂 Combos could get really tough on the original Steam version.
    I wonder if the console combo trials are straight from there. Great vid.

    I just wanna know how you do the charge inputs (HOLD4, 6, A for example) because I wanna main paprika but her charge inputs confuse me

    • @SirNintendolot
      @SirNintendolot  Год назад +1

      Learning her charge inputs is tricky. So, you hold a certain direction (back, for instance) for a moment, and then you press the other direction and the corresponding button. This is how you execute her "cartwheel" and "teleport" attacks. Figuring out how long you need to hold a certain direction to charge it takes practice.
      Also keep in mind that you're allowed to hold down while you're charging the direction too so that you're crouched rather than walking backward. (For instance, you could hold down and back, 1, then go for 6 A to do her cartwheel without walking backward first.)
      It gets more complex when you factor in how you can charge while doing some of her standard attacks so that you can quickly follow up with a cartwheel of some kind.
      I hope that helped somehow.

      It is very difficult to tap that input quickly enough. That's a problem I have too.

    Do you need a controller to play this game or will a keyboard do? If so, what kind of controller?

    • @SirNintendolot
      @SirNintendolot  Год назад

      Most people use controllers. I like the Nintendo Switch one myself. Mainly, you would want a controller with a good d-pad. However, I do know of some top-level players who actually prefer keyboard.

    I put this in my watch later so I can take my mind off getting my flank handed to me twice by a Pom user. I just bought the game on Christmas and I have no idea what I'm doing the combos are so strict because I have to hit the buttons in quick succession. I did go through the tutorial skipping some parts because it was too hard for me to pull off a combo. My first online fight featured me getting beat into a corner until I went down.

    • @SirNintendolot
      @SirNintendolot  Год назад

      The combo timing is very fast and strict. Practicing combos in training mode is a must!
      And, yeah, Pom is quite the flank kicker. Keeping up with all her pups is tough.

    • @MidnightThunderKid
      @MidnightThunderKid Год назад

      @@SirNintendolot Yeah the tutorial was just irritating because I could hardly get a full combo off without the bot breaking out of the stun pose before I could finish it.

      @@SirNintendolot Quick question what would you do if a Oleander player continuously spams the projectile move (Idk what it's called) but it's down while walking back. I lost once by getting hit by that again and again using Paprika's teleport didn't save me.
