While I don't suggest it be done, there's another way to improve the over all performance and add to a cleaner combustion chamber/valves. That is to route the PCV hose to the atmosphere and plug where it normally attaches to the intake nipple with a vacuum cap. (I think it's a 3/8" I.D.). An added benefit is that this will provide the fuel pump with a stronger vacuum signal. It's also a good idea to modify the fueling with dual parallel fuel filters with each tank having its own filter. It's optional to eliminate the check valves. The factory muffler is quite restrictive and can be modified to flow better that boosts torque slightly and sound so much pleasing.
The oil cooler is not to add horse power, the increased RPMs from the wider throttle flap causes a already hot air cooled engine to over heat. If you crank it up you got to cool it down.
RPMs will not increase. That is controlled by the Governor and regulated. The THROTTLE will open more, same as giving it more gas, but speed will remain constant.
The oil cooler is because when you take a 23 hp and run it at 25, it tends to overheat. The oil cooler compensates for that. Otherwise you run the risk of damaging the engine.
Thanks for the informative video. My kawasaki 20hp FH601V (same setup as yours) was playing up bogging down etc. I cleared that all up. The problem l have now is no throttle control and she's running full bore, clean revs, no smoke and pto running strongly. There's no response when I up throttle or down just full revs. Can you assist please?

what's the difference with the fr651/691/730, all the same bore and stroke but different HP ratings, someone said it was the carb but i looked at the schematic and the jets are the same, also what are your thoughts about putting a canister filter from an FX engine on an FR engine, do you need to re-jet or replace the carb? there's been debate on that for years and years. kawa sold an upgrade kit year ago which did include jets but not for an FR engine, now they don't even sell them.
Put your ear down by the carb and turn the key on and off. If you don't hear a "click", check the wires going to the fuel shut off solenoid located on the front bottom of the carb. If power isn't going to it, fuel won't get to the carb.
The air filter is restricting your engine from breathing. I removed my filter and exhaust to really open up it up. I haven’t put it on a dunk yet, but imagine I went from 19 too a little over 30 hp.
Nice Job , I know with some of the older outboards that horsepower output could be altered by simply changing the jets , but never knew a throttle stop on the throttle shaft differed between hp models , i wonder if the throttle stop could be altered with a dremmel tool to increase the butterfly range at WOT on a 19 hp without purchassing a shaft?. great video thanks. question for you I have a what I think is 19 hp Kawasaki on my wright. its blowing oil from the oil pan gasket I believe the rings are worn causing pressure in the oil pan thus forcing oil out the gasket area. have you ever replaced rings/pistons. if so can you infom me on the this process. or if you have any replacement engine for sale. thanks
I have a Kholer with a bad piston. I'm thinking about rebuilding it. I know it's a completely different motor, but it should be close enough to learn from. Stay tuned. After I get this bobcat running, I'll try to do the rebuild next

Might as well go ahead and massage the carburetor, swap out the cam, take the governor off, bore the cylindesr over .030, put in some billet parts and switch it over to run methanol. RIP hydro pumps and deck belt. LOL!!!
You may have two engines both with the same bore and stroke ae: cu. in. but have two different cams or carb's to have two different hp rates. Just need to check p/n's

oil cooler ? this is how it helps. what does oil do when it's hot ? it loses viscosity correct ? YES ... well what property does oil provide besides lubrication and heat transfer ? Sealing properties around rings and cylinder bore . well logically cooler oil more viscosity better seal less loss of compression more combustion energy contained on top of piston . Less compression blowing past rings helps along with the other performance improvements to add some 1-2 horsepower over two cylinders. more cylinders more CC's more power saved ... There's your dinner...
Simple. More HP means you need more cooling to operate safely IF the cooling is maxed out. Its the same reason you put a tranny cooler on a automobile if you plan on heavy towing.
The displacement is different between a 19hp and 23hp in this model. You didn't increase any horsepower all you did was increase engine speed. The engine and hydros were not designed to turn faster than 3600rpms. I would highly advise getting a tachometer and resetting your governor. Now if you're planning on racing the mower then that is a different story as this will give you increase travel speed and blade speed. You probably lowered the horsepower of the engine by over revving it as it's turning faster than the efficiency of the overall engine characteristics. Increasing engine speed doesn't increase horsepower once you reach the designed peak detailed in the camshaft design or flow characteristics of the heads etc it will begin to produce less power.

Jam9297, that's correct. Everything hits a limit at a certain RPM, whether it's from carb size or fuel flow, air intake, head flow, or whatever. John Steele, I hope you are being sarcastic. You are, right? The guy making this video thinks we don't get it, but really, he doesn't get it. Does he actually think they both come with the identical size engines with identical cam, heads, bore and stroke? When you put the throttle wide open on your mower, that's not all it has. You can reach over and rev ANY of them higher than the throttle lets it go. Is that a good idea? Not if you want it to last as long as it should. If ya wanna rev, go get ya a K6 GSX-R 600. One of the highest revving super sport bikes made lol. Mine has a 16,000RPM redline. If you want to increase horsepower in your lawnmower, well hell, I guess you'd need to change the jets in the carb, or grind a custom cam, change the piston for a higher compression one (or two), bore and stroke it. Did he give it more horsepower by making it rev higher? That very well may be so. We won't know where the peak horsepower is unless it's put on a dyno. Did the manufacturer use the EXACT same engine in two different models, limit the amount of throttle you can give one and call it 19hp, while the other one sits at 23hp? Fuck no.

I'm surprised that you had to keep cranking on it like you did before it finally started. Looks as tho this engine is shot. But, I'd take it off your hands for a couple hundred. :-)
You could just use a grinder to cut the plate down a little bit. Just enough to allow it to open the butterflies a little more.

Cool, but it needs a new intake, with a Holly 850 duel-feed double-pumper, and some lake pipes.

Spring on your throttle linkage hooks on the little hook (on the spring clip) not above it . Ask me how l know? Lol

better seal at piston allows for more force contained on top of piston to forcefully drive piston down in bore for the power stroke...

The carb was empty. Had to crank till it filled....that motor has been replaced with a 27hp. The 23 went on a 52" Stander. Still runs fine
