Many Thanks in advance!
Tried for two days. Couldn't get my printer working until I watched this. Thank you!
You're welcome :)
Saved my life... Managed to setup Brother MFC-L2700DW printer on Lubuntu 20.10 using this. Thanks so much
Brother provided instructions how to install their Linux Driver using Linux Terminal, but as is typical, there was enough confusion or lack of clarity for me to simply guess at what they were "saying". Since computers are so literal, the addition or omission of even a space between command elements would result in a fail. Your video was exactly what I needed. 5 years after you posted this video, the information is still relevant. Thank You.
Awesome. The only reason this wasn't working for me at first was because I wasn't following your instructions to the t. Very professional and much appreciated.
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. Lenny. I have just bought an HL-1112 printer and the driver base in Linux Mint didn't have the correct one.
I did as you suggested -- the Printers Directory was a brilliant idea, by the way -- and followed your instructions to a T. It took a little while until everything was finished and then a Test Page printed!
You are a terrific teacher -- liked and subscribed, with lots of thanks.

Thank you ... even 7 years later still a good tutorial.
i had never loaded a printer in linux before. i had a wireless Brother printer and thanks to this video i was able to install it. Thank you for making this video, it was clear and easy to follow.
Thank you Leon! And thanks for stopping by, glad it helped you :)
Your video was a really big help in getting my Brother MFC-L2680 printer set-up to work with my newly installed Linux Feron OS. ....Thanks Lenny!
Thank you for such clear step by step instructions. What a relief to find someone who can really bring it down to a level and pace that anyone can understand and follow. There seem to be so many knowledgeable Linux people out there who want to be helpful to beginners, but they just can't seem to communicate at a beginners level.. They start off with some kind welcoming words, but the next thing you know, they are off to the races spouting Linux lingo and commands without any clarification. I thought for sure I was going to have to go back to Windows since wasn't able to figure out what to do with the drivers once downloaded to Linux. Thanks to you, I was able to get my printer up and running in linux Lite and learned a little about using command prompts too.
Thanks for the kind words :) I'm glad it helped you. If you have any other questions that you can't find an answer to, feel free to send me a message. Good Luck!
Thank you so much for the info. You are very thorough. Next time you can let them know to right click in the printer directory and select "open in terminal". Definitely easier for newer people. But very nicely done!!
Lenny
Thx too much for this video. I am trying to configure my Brother HL 1202, an hour ago. And your video help me to install once and for all. You explain very well, congrats. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Brilliant! I thought your presentation was a little too slow at first. But you are spot on, it's JUST RIGHT. Thanks.
You're welcome :)
It's works in 2021 too. Thanks man for the very clear explication
I am slowly working towards eliminating my windows/linux dual boot and eventually moving towards 100@ linux, and videos like this make it much easier to do. I am loving my mint install, but the few occasional linux quirks and difficulties are made much easier by step by step videos such as this.
Wow it worked the first time. Wow thanks for the video. I had to redo the installation at the point of selecting the proper number which was 15, instead of the Device URI.
Thank you very much ;Len that was a very splendid procedure. When I opened the file to extract I did not have the same set-up dialog box you have ,but I still managed to succeed. Your idea of a seperate folder also means that you could possibly transfer that fil eo whenever you install another distro,
keep up the good tutorials.
This is Brilliant! I have struggled before with Linux, but this guy makes it so easy and understandable. My new Brother MFC-j491DW worked first time, and scans as well. Top Marks Len
This was great. I am using Zorin 15 OS and I followed your instructions and everything loaded perfectly. My printer is a Brother HL-L2300D Keep up the good work!
This is the best Step by Step video I have ever come across. I only wished I had more problems I need solving!!
Thanks Howard, your comments made my day :)
Even in 2020 it works. Thank You!
Hi Lenny, I second Mad Harry.I had the same frustrating experience to looking for a tutorial a linux-beginner can understand.Following your detailed explanations even I was able to make my printer running. Thanks a lot and a "Happy New Year" to you.
+teutonicos Glad I could help! Thanks for stopping by the channel! Happy New Year to you and yours!
Yes, that was VERY helpful! I really needed to see it done that way BEFORE I go to install a new printer when I get it so I don't scatter stuff everywhere like you said! I can learn some good ways of doing things in Linux from you, Thank you!
Thanks from 2020 "March! It is still working...
Excellent video as always Len. This video answers all the questions. Thank you very much.
Thanks man!! I have been fighting with this printer for 3 days, you made it happen.
Glad it worked for you :)
THE BEST TUTORIAL
By the way, I wrote up all the instructions and located it in the new Printers Folder with all the rest of the files.
Thanks yet again!
PL
Lenn Thank you so much for doing a great video on installing the drivers for a { BROTHER} printer, Although I did have a bit of a puzzling time when I tried to change directory as linux said it didn't exist - where you changed the directory to downloads/Printer/ I think the extra {/} was needed at the end but never the less I got it to work.
Fantastic Video, however I recommend that when you show the terminal as you are typing - It would help to zoom in a bit more and or put the commands that you typed in the description as I found it a bit hard to see but other than that Great job.
Thanks again
5 failed to follow instructions 198 got saved including me. Thanks !
I'm a computer illiterate and switched to Linux to get away from Microsoft.
Your video helped me out so much. Thank you.
MICROSOFT: KISS MY ASS
A very good tutorial, congratulations, you know how to explain concisely and clearly. You are a very good teacher.
Cheers Lenny you have changed my printing life.
I'm glad it worked for you Franklin! Thanks for stopping by!
Great tutorial. Even I could understand what was going on. Lets now see what happens.
Thank you very so much for the your video how to install brother printer in Ubuntu you're such a good teacher....
Thank God the bushfires are over 1000 Km (600+ miles) My niece in Calif. said it was 40Deg.F on Monday ,here we had abt. 77Deg F.
+JOSEPH BARR We were 75 degrees F on Christmas day. Now it's cooler and wet. Normallt this time of year we get to 55deg F during the day, down in the 30's at night. Not too bad. Stay safe and have a great New Year Joseph!
Awesome. Found you extremely helpful and accurate. Highly recommended
Thank you, was able to add my brother all in one to Linux mint. I'm still unable to print, but can scan.
Thanks for the excellent instructions! I followed your video as went thru the terminal commands to install my Brother HL-2270DW. I'm using mate 18.1 and entered the ip address in the choices menu (no auto config choice).
Glad it worked for you :)
Thanks I was struggling new subscriber bro
Благодарю , год возился с установкой драйвера на brother hl-1112R сейчас он заработал , ура !!! Тысяча благодарностей тебе !!!
Thanks for the tutorial, worked great, saved me the headache, thanks again
This saved me a lot of time. Thanks for making this available,
Thanks for this video ... even today it's pretty usefull
Thank you for clearing it up, for it was extremely difficult to figure out
Both of my printers (MFC J 475W & MFC J 430W) act dumb when I attempt a test page. Some how, somewhere I have apparently got something wrong or missed a step. Rather than watching & listening to the video while trying to do the process, a list of the steps I could print out and follow would be helpful.
Thank you very very much man ! so easy following your instructions. you made it like piece of cake :)
+Wolf33 Thanks for the kind words. And thank you for stopping by the channel. I am glad I was able to help :)
thank you so much!! this video was so clear and concise and solved my problem of how to install my brother mfc printer correctly!! thank you! :)
Great Tutorial! Really helped with my Brother Scanner.
Thanks you for such clear step by step instructions. !!!!!
Thanks Lenny for your excellent video,I got my printer working. But what about the Scanner ?I guess I am not the only one with the problem,so,a video with instructions which also a layman could understand would be appreciated. Thanks again and kind regards.
Thanks a bunch man, I can use my printer now.
only helpful advice I could find thank you
Thank you very much ,I shall do exactly as you recommend, esp. the "printer " folder.I really appreciate your review because you enunciate ver clearly and succinctly. You must have the patience of Job.
We wish youand the family a Happy New Year and may the weather be kind.
God Bless,
From Down Under ,
Joe &Monika Barr
+JOSEPH BARR Thank you Joe and Monika, I'm glad that the videos have helped. That is my intention. I know how frustrating it can be venturing into something new, especially Linux. Glad I could help. In Australia it must be warm now. I saw on the news that you also have severe issues with wild fires. Hope you stay safe and Happy New Year!
i wish id seen this 6 months ago thanks
Thanks from 2019! it worked.
Many thanks even though I made three tries getting past the Download file set-up. My Brother MFC-J285DW has scanner and this family needs for there school work. Hope that will be your next video. I couldn't print using linux and the Skype sound failed so I was ready to give up on Linux. Now I need to solve the sound on Skype and I will be a happy Linux user.
Glad it worked for you :)
Thank you for your great informational video, Leonard!

Great tutorial, really helped me out, many thanks.
Thanks Man, very good video. Simple for new on Linux. I have L. Mint and samsung M2020 and after many hours of try to find solution.....bum Call Lenny and problmes gone!
thanks for video i hope this does it and this is why can not get anyone to use linux its convoluted still
thank you so much!! very very helpful!
Thank you very Helpful
Appreciated the instructional. Would the setup be the same through a wireless setup? Entered IP address of printer, it executed without errors, but no test page -> The device just shows "Processing" indefinitely. Cancelling the job and attempting to execute another to the same end ...
Thanks a lot !!!!! You have helped me !!!!
Very precise, thanks. Great Vid.
Thank you Allan!
Thanks! This helped me a lot:)
+Andrew DiBernardo I'm glad it helped you, and thanks for stopping by Andrew!
Very good, Thank you
Thank you very much for the clear!! and slow!! instructions. I had to learn how to find my IP address but this "Wilma" Flinstone is coming along.
Great Job! I'm sometimes criticized for talking too slow, but sometimes that's what it takes :-) Thanks for stopping by Wilma ;-)

Can you help me with the scanner function?...same printer/scanner machine but I have never been able to scan to/from the Linux to the scanner?....
good tutorial
You instructions are very clear and thorough. However, at the stage where I'm trying to run the installer file, I get the error message "cannot execute binary file." I can't progress past this point. Attempting to install a printer in Liinux has given me a new appreciation for Microsoft Windows. : (
I recently switch from Mint to Linux Lite. My printer is HL-3170CDW. It's a laser printer. The last time I installed the printer it was on Mint. Everything went smoothly. But here on Lite it acted weird. Following the instructions on the webpage... They tell you if your using a usb answer no. But you wanted to us to select auto. Anyways either way mine won't print a test page from the terminal. But I checked and the driver is installed now. I'm able to print. Go figure. I also found this interesting.
Your install file is linux-brprinter-installer-2.0.0-1
Mine is linux-brprinter-installer-2.0.0-1
It seems that the only difference is when you put in the printer model number. Go figure.
Just felt like posting that. lol
+gregorylock I'm glad your printer is working :) That can be one of the most frustrating tasks when installing linux. And let's face it, if you can't print, you probably won't use linux. Thanks for stopping by Gregory!
Thanks a lot! Great!
Thank you so much, i've never used gz before. I have the same series as you, does this also install the wireless printing as well?
I did it with my HL1202 and it didn't work out. The strange fact is that it prints few pages, but when I decide to print a file with, let's say, 25 pages starting for the even ones it doesn't function
I'd still buy you coffee though :)
Start sound is not so nice .... nice content. thx mate
holy cow.. how long does this process run.. selecting .. preparing to unpack .. unpacking...? ( i guess when your machine is a dinosaur like mine it takes a few minutes)
That's an MFP. So, the question is, does the *scanner work? Currently searching for printer/scanners (MFPs) to buy for my Linux, considering HP or Brother.
Thank you very much, appreciate it.
TYVM, I got my brother hl-2270dw installed, I upgraded to linux mint 18 mate, after I was downgraded to windows 10 on main machine. i duel boot with two drives one w10 one mate 18 only use w10 now for MMO games
Thats great! Glad it worked for you. Thanks for stopping by Bruce!
Can’t get it working on Kali unfortunately.
Did everything as suggested and got an error message, something about a “brmfc7825dwfilter” file missing…
help as well thanks
my issue is it all goes well until near the end it says...cups service failed...check cups service. trying to run a brother mfc-j497dw with usb only and it still wants me to connect to https:631 an all that does is show a page not found..even the local host 127.0.0.1 is not found...odd thing is I changed over an HP laptop to Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa and the printer works but on my desktop running a full install of the same OS on a bootable USB the cups thing goes belly up. printer is never recognized but for some odd reason the Simple Scan function works....odd to say the least.
