Good video but disagree on Tesla lack of indicator stalks - “that’s progress” - it really isn’t - it’s a dangerous backward step.

Having owned a Model 3 for 3 weeks now. The indicators do take a bit of getting used to but overall not really an issue. When going back to my wife’s ICE car with stalks I kept trying to press the steering wheel for the indicators. Even one pedal braking I get caught out when first driving the ICE car and realise I need to actually use the brake 😂

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru

I don’t agree that it’s cost cutting as they’ve had to retool the steering wheel and the buttons aren’t free - the cost of that would be huge.

Those stalks are 10 bucks at most. They could have kept the steering wheel the same and save on that aswell.

Here in NZ the Seal and Model 3 are about the same price, starting at approx £32K for SR RWD, up to £42K for the performance version of each. The Polestar 2 and Ioniq 6 start at £40K and go up from there. The key feature of the Polestar is that it is a liftback and is more versatile because of it. For boots of the others, the Model 3 is best, then the Seal and a truly horrible boot on the Ionic 6. But the Polestar is the only one that is on an ICE platform and thus compromised. The Polestar also lacks many of the features that come as standard on the Tesla and BYD unless you pay more for the “option packs”.
The BYD is the only one that has an LFP battery across the variants. While it has a slower charge rate, it can be charged to 100% every time, the battery is demonstrably safer and has a longer life. As a current Tesla Model 3 owner, I rank them slightly differently Seal, Model 3, Polestar 2 then Ioniq 6.

Out of interest, if you were to buy a second hand EV for around £20-22k, what would you go for, would a manufacturer warranty play a role in your decision or would you be happy with taking out a separate warranty like the one on your channel. I am looking to take advantage of the salary sacrifice EV leasing scheme that my employer offers and of these 4, 3 are on my radar.
For some reason, the Tesla is extortionate through the scheme. The Ioniq 6 single motor version is by far the cheapest for me, then then BYD Seal, followed by the Polestar 2.
Like you say in this review, they all have their plus points and there isn’t really a bad EV out of this selection, it will be down to preference or what kind of deal you get on it.
If it is purely down to finances, I will be going with the Ioniq 6. I really need to see each of them and get a test drive if possible

I was in a friend's Jaguar XKR at the weekend. I think having a smaller integrated screen is so much nicer aesthetically than all of the huge screens that look like they were stuck on at Halfords. The Polestar always looks better on video than when I see one. They always look to be sitting too high on the chassis (presumably the effect of the battery pack below).

Overall my personal choice would be the Tesla becuase of the great software (and regular updates), fantastic safety features (isn't Tesla top of the league in the euro ncap tests - so important for a family car) and possibility of adding FSD in the future. FSD offers the potential for even greater safety for all road users, plus will be a mobility boon for the elderly and disabled. I am not anti EV ( I have had a charging point on my garage since 2014. I had a Mitsubishi outlander PHEV ) and have driven a Tesla S. why are we not told the truth about the most important thing for most people , the real world range. Winter summer spring and autumn, you get told charge to 80% for quick efficient charging time, then you have to charge when you get to about 15% to save range anxiety. So you can take 25% off an already false range. Manufactures just need to tell us the truth. If we had this information people could choose the EV best for them.

Youve misunderstood the 80%. Seriously. Thats for everyday use. Going on a long trip? Charge to 100%. Dont run down to below 15% ?Depends. If you are going to arrive somewhere where you *know* you can charge, for example home, no issue with single digits %
There you are just got you 25% - 40% extra range for free 😂
Source? 4 years driving a 250 - 280 mile EV (nota tesla) all over England. How many trips in england do you do that need more than say 500 miles? (Eg one charge) id say zero for most people. (And there are plenty of JOG to LE trips in a single day as well on the web)
