When I stopped caring what other people thought I was set free!
Me too. I was 6.😮😅😅😅😅😅😅
Amen!
And it’s sad because people really do care what other people think 🤦🏻♀️
Success in any sense of the word depends on what you want. Not what others women think you should.
People are annoying.
When my car kept acting up, i bought a 20 yr old camry from a 95 year old lady for 1500, over 2 years ago, it has not failed me yet
Very smart. 😀
Continuing the legacy 🙌👏
Camrys rock. My '94 camry wagon is about to hit 300k miles and it's still running great and going strong. Seats 7, gets 25-30 mpg, fits as much in the back as a small truck bed, and it only cost me $1200. Camrys last forever.
Yet!😂

@mustafakhasawneh4713 nah a 96 chevy is still 10 years old lol
I got a 95 myself
How long ago was that? 20 years ago I bought my first car for $2300, but it was a 20 year old piece of junk.
As a high school teacher, retired, i supported my wife and Three kids. Each kid went to University then Grad school. My newest car was always More than 12 years old! At 72 I am in rapidly declining health but no regrets. Taught Engineering, Math and my favourite was teaching Developmentally Delayed teen-agers. They taught Me so much. Just be grateful. I also volunteered hundreds of hours with at-risk teens. Many went to post secondary education and got careers going.
That’s pretty much what I do. 10 yr old car about every 5 years. The last car has out last the 5 yrs so now I have 2.
My grandma, on the other hand, always got a new car. Every 10 yrs she would go get a new car. And it was affordable for her because she knew in 10 yrs she was going to buy a new car. Trade in the old one and cut a check.
The days of being a teacher and supporting a family of five and sending them to college are OVER. Thanks to boomers

I have a 2010 rav 4 with 192,000 miles.. mint condition runs great.. so reliable.. Toyota..
Bought a $40k car and still have it for almost 13yrs. Regular maintenance, including exterior and interior detailing, and it looks almost brand new. I allow myself $1k a year for any unexpected expenses to keep this car going forever. Better than spending $8k a year for new car note. Invest the extra money.
If you would have spent half that, you’d have just as reliable of a car, and an extra $20k in your pocket.
@@smileychessThat’s ridiculous. There is no way of knowing that for sure.
@@bryan_witha_whyyHe’s right.. Buy a preowned Honda or Toyota and you could’ve easily gotten as reliable a car as the one you own now. No one knows for sure but it’s what the statistics prove. $ 40 K is an awful lot of money to spend on a car that too 10-12 years back when prices were not that high.. 😊
I got an underrated reliable Mitsubishi in high school. That was in 2011. Still runs great. Am a primary care doc now without a car payment still driving the same car I tested for my first DMV license in. Love the car. Make memories because those priceless!
Mitsubishi largely pulled out of America. Getting parts isn't that easy.
@@thullraven1 that's true, paint chipped front bumper, couldn't find another in the country that had the same color. A cheap $15 AC valve needed to be replaced. Took 8 months for that part to arrive (had no AC in the Vegas summer of 2021). Prior to that the Mitsubishi dealerships would fix my car under warranty and give me a free rental. That fortunately lasted 10 years.
The problem is, the people who need these cars are unlikely to have even 8k saved up, and most of the financing options for vehicles in this range are predatory.

Focus on safety as well as reliability because I promise you that if you have a tiny cheap car with bad safety ratings and a horrible accident happens, you’d give any amount of money to get your health or loved ones back.
This is another reason people don’t understand old cars yes they are reliable but most of them should you get into accident with youd die or either have serious injuries
Dumb reason to be poor.

It's a very good point. I think the same rule applies though, if safety is a concern then buy a more recent safe car but don't go overboard
I have a Big truck that kept costing me money in gas and repairs. It's all fixed up now but instead of upgrading it more I bought a super cheap 97 Toyota Avalon. Only 100$ worth of work on it and it runs like the clock
A lot of older cars break down a lot.
You really need to be careful when buying a second hand car.
Agree. It happened to me. My car is at the mechanic every 3 months.
Buy Toyota's

I've always bought second or even third hand and never had a problem.
Yeah some cars are great but seriously you can get a real lemon sometimes.
My husband and I tried this and 3 cars later that needed new engines, meaning thousands of dollar in repair, weeks without a car, spending money in rentals cause life goes on we finally financed a new car and 3 years later is payed off because I payed extra every month, and no mechanical problems just maintenance.

I drive a 28 year old Ford daily. Have no idea what mileage it has since that quit working 6 years ago at 214000 miles. But the 4 wheel drive still works.
As a first responder with long hours and low pay. I just want a nice car. Not a new car. Not an expensive car. Just one in this decade lol. I've paid off mine for 10yrs now but my engagement comes first. My bills comes . My debt. Buying a house. Sometimes it feels like I'll be dead before I get something decent. So I understand why people splurge...it's so tempting.
I understand the feeling. That's why their baby steps are so great. Following them to the letter gets people debt free (minus house) in roughly 24 months. Then you save your fully funded emergency fund and then a sinking fund for any other big purchases (i.e. car, home renovations, etc). In 3-4 years, you'll be in a position to forever more pay cash for that car you want and never stress about a payment again.
See that is the problem with most people is when they put it down on paper, it will look something like this. 2-3 years to get out of debt if they are really intentional, another 5 years to save enough to buy a decent car let alone a new one, plus their emergency fund and other stuff that they have planned. What they realize is they do not make enough fast enough to enjoy life's luxuries and so they splurge, take out loans etc etc. It's unfortunate but our economy is a consumer based economy where if people dis not splurge and take out loans then the system would crash. Ford, GM, Chrysler you name it would layoff thousands and we would be in a recession. It's a nasty cycle but a necessary evil if we want to maintain our economy. If people didn't buy new cars then we wouldn't have second hand vehicles. Their stupidity is our gain kinda of thing 😅. What the Ramseys fail to recognize or maybe they do and just accept is, Dave's retirement accounts wouldn't be where they are now if people did not consume.
@@andidede3653 if someone is intentional to get out of debt in 2-3 years, in absolutely no way will it take them another 5 years to fully fund their emergency fund and save up enough for a car. That's absolutely ludicrous to even think that.
If you don't make enough for luxuries, then you either save or get a better job. Getting these loans doesn't help the economy...especially when people are drowning in debt and can't save for retirement. What good do these luxuries do when you have no savings/retirement, and then rely on the govt to sustain you in your later years? It's a horrible plan that is doomed to fail.
Besides, if people were debt free, do you know what they would have...? Money. And they'd be able to spend it on whatever. Rather than jumping into a loan and being saddled to it for years, thus reducing their expendable income, and being able to buy even more of those luxuries.
We have our beloved ‘snot mobile’! It’s 7 seats, has transported a wardrobe in the past, only 85,000 miles and it’s 100% ours. It’s just a terrible colour 😂
My three musts in a car: starts every time you turn the key, cold A/C, good gas milage. In 2007 I found a 1993 Honda Accord with only 30k miles on it. I paid $3,200 and to date it's the best car I've ever owned.
I’m planning on using public transport for as much and as long as it’s possible. To know that all of my transportation needs are covered for less than a $100 per month is extremely liberating. It’s not always convenient, but I like being able to save money.
That's exactly what I did, I use public transportation and lyft to get around, it aloud me to build a 1year emergency fund, get out of debt, and invest 65 % of my income into cash flowing assets, I no longer have a desire to by a car at all, my mid 6 figure networth gives me satisfaction and freedom knowing I can retire early and travel when I decide too

In California, we have smog checks and emission standards that must be met before our cars can be registered. One cannot get away with buying an $8,000 car. One will not see very many old cars out on the road in California environmental regulations do not permit it. Furthermore, you will be at the mechanic wasting money trying to fix your car to pass smog check and other numerous car repairs as well. So here, in California at least, a cheap used car $8,000 or less is not feasible in the long run.
What about reliable brands like Honda and Toyota.
I kept my 1994 Ford Ranger and drove it for 19 years. I keep every vehicle for a least a minimum of 15 years before getting a newer vehicle.

Our car is 13 years old and our truck is 20. We're not looking to replace either at this time.
Nope! I agree with the Ramsey philosophy on almost everything. This is the thing I disagree with them most on. I do not care to sit in places waiting for a car to be fixed or stranded somewhere by a vehicle ever again. Been there done that!
The hack is to buy a toyota or buy a model of vehicle from another brand that is tried and true and verified to be reliable. There's a lot of junk out there but if you know what to look for you CAN find quality used cars that will last a long time. And just for the record a lot of new cars are junk too, plus you get the pleasure of paying $50k+ at 6% interest for 5 or 6 years.
That depends in so many factors. For instance, of you own a small business, you are better of leasing and offsetting the car as business expenses. Old cars require more maintenance, and if you dont know how to do on your own, labor will eat up your money very quickly everytime something breaks down.
This so true and I'm shocked at how many people don't do this and then complain afterwards

You need transportation, you don't need a car. When you start looking at it that way a lot more cheap options open up to you.
It depends on where you live and/or if you have kids.
For me, I have to have a car. I commute 32 miles a day to work.

Well you need to do research and have some knowledge of the type of cars you are looking at. We have so much info today to research which vehicles are more reliable. The most expensive car I've bought was $8,500 dollars and it caused me the most issues. My current car is 23 years old. I literally paid $1,000 for it and I've driven it for over 2 years now. I've done under $1,000 in maintenance so far. Also make a difference if you do your own repairs and if you're willing to learn.

How nice we talking? My car is pretty dang nice and it was $10,000. Are we saying spend $30,000 on a car? Because that definitely not necessary. I'd rather retire earlier than spend an unnecessary extra $20,000 on a car. Or worse, finance a $30,000 car.
Looking for a car now. I'm not seeing anything decent for under $12,000. The $8,000 cars have about 170,000 miles on them. Not good if you are looking for something to last more than a few years. This "$8,000 reliable used car" was a thing around 2014. Not so much anymore.

I agree, I’ve been looking and early 2000-2010 corollas go for about 5k give or take a thousand. And they’re already at around 150k miles generously. And I was like hm well I wanted a Toyota if I’d go for something such high mileage and decided maybe Prius for the extra mpg. Prius also go for upwards of 5-6k on the low end with around 200k miles, I’ve seen some with 250k plus miles still around 5 grand. I get they’re reliable cars but buys any car at that mileage just feels like a trap and if someone’s selling it in this market there must be something wrong with it. I refuse to believe so many people just have 5k plus cash just sitting around it just doesn’t make sense.
I came here to say the exact same thing. Sorry, but I'm not spending $12,000 on a car with 170k miles on it. At that point I might as well spend $20k on a car with much lower miles.

I imagine this applies to the U.S. only because reliable used cars in Canada cost more than that.
Until you buy a old cheap reliable car that breaks two or three times a year in the end costs almost as much as a new car payment when you average it out. Mazda charges less than 2k for a 6yr bumper to bumper warranty no worries ever.

It basically paid for itself within the first year.
Still running fine almost 20 years later.
I'm tempted to buy one of those fancy new vans I see... but I can always come up with better ways to spend $40 or 50K!!
A similar vehicle, 3 years old, would cost 35-40k today.
I purchased a used old van for 4500 dollars and used as transportation, traveling and making decent living. Earning 40 k years. Easily. .. used as /. in transportation for sharing and services for tourists traveling and visiting. Florida.
The problem with a lot of people is they buy cars and they know nothing about cars. Blows my mind how much people will invest in something they know nothing about.
So many people end up spending way more than they need to and don’t keep card for long because they don’t know how to keep up proper maintenance.
I need to play this for 1 year straight
I totally agree, that’s why i ride motorcycles.
I am glad you think this way
I love your sincere spontaneous personality and expression! lol!
Was stuck in car loan after car loan for almost 20yrs. Finally done with them. Lesson learned. 🤕
You are absolutely 💯 right 😅😂 love you ❤
This great advice for people who don’t put high mileage on their vehicles.
Also, for my business, my vehicles are tax write offs. They have saved me about half of their total cost a year in taxes. The other half of the cost, I wouldn’t make the rest of my money without them.
Different strokes for different folks. Being capable of fixing things yourself will always save you a good amount of money as well. I hadn’t had a mechanic change spark plugs for me in maybe a decade but my truck was due, I call the dealer, a few mechanics, the median price was $420 for six spark plugs.
I spent $33 on the plugs, and $8 on a spark plug socket, 20 minutes later I saved $379. *This is a real world example to nail the point home. Most anyone can learn how to do this with at most an hour with their vehicle and RUclips. The tools at their minimal to do this will be about $20-$30 depending on the vehicle and last until you break them or die.
In my country the new car is cheaper.
Because of fees on imported cars. We have to pay an extra fee for imported used cars on top of ordinary fees.
Lots of cars being sold off the street cheap $500--$2,500. Most of them are being sold because they a major repair issue. You can get lucky and find one in good condition.
No, you can’t. Any car today that’s less than 4K HAS major issues and I’d bet the owners know it. Far as I can tell the cutoff for a used car that doesn’t have issues is 14k
@@lecherojrBought an old bmw for 5k and it runs great 👍🏻 All cars need regular maintenance
You are absolutely right beautiful girl. Some used car can last longer than brand new ones and by doing one can save some money to invest on other things that can yield economic return in future. I love that.
I wish you all the best of luck beautiful girl.
2007 Honda Civic with a fender bender, bought for $3500 7 years ago, at 223k miles now and still going from A to B with A/C blasting cold.
That's my one requirement. Cold ac. Nothing like it when you need it.
Great, look at those cars today. They cost triple that.
I’m buying a GR Corolla cash. Is it necessary? Nope, but I want to get a fun car.
Reliable used cars come with a lot of issues , so you have to kind of prepare yourself to spend extra money on repairs
My uncle sold his 2005 Acura to me for $500. Fixed it up and it runs like a dream.
I understood fine what she just said, but I was also staring at her beautiful face & carisma to tell things ❤
You do what make you happy and do it wisely great advice but I don’t want to wait till I’m 65 or 80 to be driving nice car like I saw bunch people out there
That is so so right. My dad always says exactly what she said. However, when I ask him to buy something for me, he always buy something better than i ask..
I have a’19 corolla 36k miles love it!
I bought used vehicle for 13k. The transmission went and then every other possible problem. I was 13k deep in repairs within 5 years. Im never ever not having a car without warranty again.
2 years ago I got a 04’ Accord for 5k that had around 80k miles. Been very reliable since
And today that car cost 12k or more.
Two times now I've gone on auto trader and bought literally the cheapest car in the whole city. Both times they needed a small repair, less than 100 usd, and ran perfectly fine. 650 in 2012. Again, I spent 650 gbp in London for a 1999 lexus. What a bargain!
Smart lady, I bought an Acura TL from a friend of mine for a good price. Everything on the car works. The only thing I HAD TO DO was replace a bad crank position sensor and while I was in there did the timing belt, water pump, pulley's and hydraulic tensioner. Even a major repair is often cheaper than one year of payments, not to mention the higher insurance and registration costs on a new car.
I just purchased a 2015 Ford Focus (5 spd manual) with 75k for $4,000 on FB market place. It was an estate sale situation & they needed to sell it quickly.
I bought a Civic Type R 30th Anniversary Edition (UK) in 2003. Yes 2003. I’ll definitely change it in the next 10 years… Probably.
