  • Russia has launched an ICBM just hours ago form the Kasputin Yar launching site in Astrakhan, Southern Russia. The Launch was seen as far away as northern Iran and Iraq, and western countries have been very concerned about the message this missile sends with it's test launch. Meanwhile US warships are rushing into position around the Middle East in preparation for the Full Scale attack still excepted by Iran within the next few days. a massive strike was launched by Hezbollah on Northern Israel, Israeli air defense intercepted all rockets.

    • @frekihelviti
      @frekihelviti Месяц назад +3

      @RichardRodi526 you are correct. Looks like I was thinking IRBMs intermediate-Range ballistic missles. (3000-5000km range) but still effective against russia if they ever wanted to escilate.
      Google says uk had the trident 2 icbm (submarine based platform), but I guess they may have decommissioned it with the non-proliferation agreements of the past? Or they still have them and were just going off land launched systems. They do still have nukes, though, and more means of delivering them than just icbms.
      Either way my point is alot of nations have nuclear weapons and different means of delivery but it means nothing unless someone wants to do something very silly.

    • @RichardRodi526
      @RichardRodi526 Месяц назад

      I don't disagree with you on the complacency thought (Ukraine needs a lot more high end air defense systems) but the problem is much different between Israel and Ukraine. Israel is only 135 km wide, probably less than that at the border of Lebanon. Iron Dome is mostly a much shorter range system than what would work in Ukraine or what Ukraine needs. It is not an anti-ballistic missile system also (design primarily for short range rocket and mortar/artillery shell coverage). Israel has augmented the Iron Done system with Arrow 3 Missiles for taking out Ballistic Missiles. The main missile used by Iron Dome cost around $100K versus like $4M for one patriot missile.
      Iron Dome has around 150 square km coverage (12.25 km x 12.25 km). The land border between Ukraine and russia is almost 2000 km long (not counting the Belarus border where russian missiles/drones often fly over). So Israel in ways doesn't need as many systems (but a lot of re-loads of cheaper to use missiles for shorter ranges), whereas for better coverage, Ukraine would need a lot more systems with much wider coverage similar to Patriot or SAMP/T but the missiles for those systems cost a lot more.
      The Iron Dome system also calculates the trajectory of dumb rockets/shells and won't attack them if they would fall in un-populated areas. Ukraine is dealing with a much more advanced attack against them which requires more sophisticated and much wider coverage. There are not as many solutions to Ukraine's defense problem. russia is intentionally flying their shahed drones and cruise missiles in circuitous patterns to try and find the air defense systems and then send missiles at those locations.

      They probably did let the US government know. Otherwise they may risk starting launches from the US or other countries. It's not something that the US Govt. would tell the media about in advance as publicizing the test could cause people to get freaked out.

      You are talking about a major power that is a global arms dealer. That specializes in selling such ordnance. No comparison to the US in sheer volume. But still has done so for decades. Though with modern laser defense systems. Much of these slow lumbering systems wouldnt achieve much. They would need to be used in mass volume.
