In the early days, I would extract audio from Mandarin rap songs on RUclips (Mc HotDog), import it into logic (or any DAW), slow the songs down and loop parts, and then memorize the lyrics. These days I watch Netflix shows with Chinese subtitles on, and watch tech RUclipsrs review products in Chinese.
I am a fitness enthusiast and Ive been learning Chinese by participating in yoga classes, 5k races, trainning sessions or simply by going to the gym and learning the name of exercices, equipment, etc. Its great because I dont need to talk too much actually but still receptive to new words. Also trying to explain what we do in the gym to my in-laws its hilarious, nice practise.

I've been riding fixed-gear bikes for about as long as I've been studying Chinese, and one of the best things I ever did in my life as a Chinese student was message 阿寶 at SKUNK (a bike shop in Taiwan that sadly no longer exists) about building me a bike when I arrived in Taiwan for grad school. Not only did SKUNK help me build up a killer bike for ripping around the streets and commuting to school, but the shop became my third space in Taiwan. A place I could hang out and unwind after a long day of school... entirely in Chinese. I made lifelong friends and learned SO much every day Chinese while hanging out with 阿寶 and the SKUNK crew. Merging my two hobbies made it much easier to make friends and find common topics that went beyond the usual "how old are you, where are you from, 等等" of daily life outside of school. 非常感謝阿寶哥還有所有的車友們！
