Recorded mostly live at Portland's Jackpot Studio by Billy Anderson (MELVINS, SLEEP, NEUROSIS) and mixed by Anderson and later mastered by Justin Weis (LUDICRA, HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE, WORM OUROBOROS) at Trakworx.

7 years since this single was released never to be featured on an album, as it is accustomed. The best audiobook out there as told by the most phenomenal melody in black metal there is. Tremendous loss their disband; their music, especially this crown masterpiece forever echoing in my head resonating the beats of my heart.

I particularly love the dialogue between Faust and Mephistopheles in the end. I appreciate how wise their words are and the way they rime. As for the music, the electric guitar fading away and letting a beautiful strumming acoustic guitar take hold is just wonderful. Overall I agree with other comments saying this song is an epic masterpiece.

In my opinion one of their darkest songs, and also one of their best! Need to get my hands on this vinyl very soon. Also hope their next full length will be full of this black atmosphere...

Simply the fact that you ARE ABLE to say "18:08 to 20:40" is amazing. There are way too few songs that reach the 10 minute mark and are awesome.

Agalloch are one of my all time favorites! This song is fuckin amazing, I love how they keep getting heavier. The drum mix is better than on Marrow IMO.
14:00 is my favorite part so far. Reminds me a lot of AATG. This EP has the feel of Marrow with a little Folklore to me.
When I men Don Anderson at a show all I could say was that Agalloch's music resonates deep in my soul and that I am thankful for their magnificent art.

All the ep is a masterpiece, in all its parts!!! The ending is a dream, but the part that I mentioned is like the calm before and after the storm!!! Agalloch, with Opeth, is my favorite band, I've got all their albums! Believe me ... I listened to this EP I don't know how many times!!!
There's every reason to purchase this. The craftsmanship of Agalloch's releases is incredible, especially the vinyl ones if you're lucky enough to be able to play them.

I love Agalloch, I didn't like the intro all too much, but like that it's different. And once you go deeper into the song, my god it becomes awesome.
Same with me. V: Hävitetty is their best album, I never get bored with it. I listened to it so many times and I still find new things and themes which make me love it even more.

everybody loves an intelligent antihero like Faust .
The melodies from 6:13 to 8:15 and 18:08 to 20:40 are breathtaking. Surrounding these epic moments with John's growl and heavy riffs and the dialogue between Mephisto and Faust is such brilliant work very few bands can pull off.
is this song maybe their best??, its quite close to me, impossible to get tired of this epic song!

I know this comment is old but I agree 100 percent. She Painted Fire is incredible. The atmosphere is unmatchable. In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion comes behind it as a close second.

I'm not sure, maybe it's because of the length, but I'd say The Wilderness is their "blackest" song. Not the darkest one, per se, but it is the "most" black metal one, I think.

i think they peaked with marrow of the spirit. it wasnt so much pure atmosphere/ambience like the mantle and actually had some crushing heavy metal riffage to go along with the ambience
