  • The HobbyKing pulsejet is a super-cheap engine but there have been some issues which seem to boil down mainly to quality control and manufacturing tolerances. In this video I look at the variance in fuel atomizers and get ready to try and run the engine with a replacement atomizer.
Once the engine is fixed, it will be going on my Mini Talon RC plane and we'll have some real fun!

If there is one thing you can count on it's the weather!! Really looking forward to see how this project turns out.

I piddled with some control line jet speed as a kid... c. mid to late 60's. As I recall, 'flowjector' assembly quality varied a good bit between individual specimen... as I suspect they may now. Dyna's were an order of magnitude better than OS Max, but still so so. You very well might need to remove and re-position the start tube. check around on the web a bit... I recall reading and/or seeing where some modern day hard core types now use removable start tubes. Also, check the chamber and pipe welds for pinholes (soap bubble), along with the head to combustion chamber and spark plug connections... they seen to be amazingly sensitive to even minute leaks. The aluminum reed valve seat surfaces too... lots of lapping is often needed to keep those cleaned up. Try to minimize as much as possible ground run time... and they run very much cooler on alcohol fuels as opposed to gasoline. Oops, almost forgot, leaking taper seat sealing surfaces between metering jets and flowjector can also be an infuriating source of issues... all said and done, they're really fussy about any and everything imaginable. Oh, and don't run them in the house lest you'll annoy kitty...

What Summer? We had snow on Mt Wellington yesterday morning when I got up and that front should be at your place right about now. So put on your Santa suit and go ride in a pulse jet powered sleigh. Oh and call your pulse jet Rudolph, 'cause it really does have a red nose!

I drilled the fuel metering hole to 2 mm and the spray bar holes to 1.2 mm. It now runs great on ethanol.

I may buy a pulse jet looks pretty cool. You should have a look at the 3 axis gimbals for the 9xr and 9xr pro and let us know what you think

you sure the smaller holes aren't from a worn out drill bit and the angle is from crappy QC

The HK pulsejet owner comments (reviews) for this would probably be helpful in getting it working. For some reason, HK's site doesn't indicate the date a comment was posted, only the date a reply was posted.

hi, I have a hk pulse jet also, I wonder if it is possible to internally
fix this engine in a jet made of vibrating, of course with the
    necessary modifications? since already grateful

I tried in my last video to get my HK PJ working.. Total fail and I lost about half a litre of fuel. The air pipe broke off mine a long time ago.

So for the fuel you can just use petrol? Or can you use alternative fuels such as alcohols?

Luke Shaw I would think kerosine would work the best as it burns when atomised along with it being basic jet fuel because of this and in my opinion it burned with more force then Petroleum

Mine used to burn reeds constantly until I tried burning 32 to 1 two stroke mix. I have it on a plane and havent burned a reed in about the last dozen flights. Used Pennzoil oil

Tesla Value? Have you thought of using a Tesla Value that has no moving parts to wear out in a pulse jet? The greater the back pressure the greater the resistance. I 3D printed one then fill up a balloon and it held the back pressure from the balloon very will.
I suppose you would need a dozen medal Tesla value in parallel to get enough air into a pulse jet. Just food for though..

    • @xjet
      @xjet  9 лет назад

+Serafin Tirado Unfortunately the Tesla valve is too "soft" to be any good. Tesla valves work fine with a constant flow but do not handle pulses of pressure very well at all :-(
